E. Simpson A feeling of sadness fell upon our community yesterday when the announcement was made that J.E. Simpson had passed away. Mr. Simpson had been engaged in business with our people for the past eight years and had won a warm place in the community heart by a quiet, unpretending, industrious life. Mr. Simpson was born at Chesterfield, Ohio, January 20th, 1840. From here he moved, when quite a young man, to Athens, Ohio, where he began to learn the profession of druggist. From Athens he found his way to Indianapolis, where he entered a large wholesale drug house as book-keeper and salesman. Following the great tidal wave he reached California, where he was employed in the drug house of Redington, Hostetter & Co., San Francisco, which firm sent him to Reno, in 1860, to settle up their business here. Finding the opening a good one he embarked his small capital here and remained a prominent business man here up to the time of his death. Deceased was a man who made no noise in the world, but who had those rare habits of quietness and regularity which make up the world's success. His business and family relations filled his life, and his nots were always in accordance with the best interest of both. But the time came all too soon when he must leave these objects of a life toll, and now the places which knew him know him not, and a loving wife and two little ones are left to endure the world alone. But little more is left to say. A quiet, useful man has gone; there are tears upon his grave and fond memories about his life, nothing more remains. The place of business where his voice and step were familiar, shall know him no more, and there are vacant nooks in many hearts where he was wont to visit and be made welcome. These shall remain and endure for him through all time, peopled by gentle memories which tell of an earnest life, kind heart, and peaceful death.
