Dead George S. Smith Has Answered Last Call Passed Away This Morning at St. George’s Hospital After Illness of One Week George S. Smith, one of the pioneers of Washoe county and one of its best known and most highly respected residents, died this morning at 10:50 at the St. George’s hospital. The deceased was a native of England and was aged 72 years. He came to this county 58 years ago and shortly afterwards removed to Nevada, settling at Washoe city, which was the seat of government for Washoe county in the early days. He was engaged in the mercantile business for many years and also cultivated a large farm in Pleasant Valley. Two brothers and three sisters survive him, James and L.D. Smith of Washoe, Mrs. Mooney of Virginia City, and two sisters in Utah. There are two daughters and a son left to mourn their loss. They are Ella M. Smith, Mrs. F. J. Sauer and David C. Smith, all of Washoe. The deceased was a member of Reno lodge No. 14, I.O.O.F.. He had been ill only a few days. Death was due to peritonitis, caused by gall stones. The body is at the mortuary parlors of the Perkins-Gulling company. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. Nevada State Journal February 9, 1911 Smith-In Reno, Feb. 7, 1911, Geo. S. Smith, of Washoe City, a native of England, aged 71 years, 2 months and 25 days. Funeral services will be held at his late home in Washoe City today at 2:45 p.m. Friends in Reno desiring to attend leave on the V. & t. local at 1:30 p.m., returning at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services under the auspices of Reno Lodge No. 14, I.O.O.F., assisted by Rev.
