Figure of West Passes Away Benjamin Studley, Prominent Stockman of California is Called A splendid career was ended yesterday when Benjamin F. Studley, a pioneer of California, passed away at his home at 1901 Sierra street. Death overtook him at 6:30 o’clock, closing a life of usefulness and numbering one more prominent figure in the life of the west. The deceased was a native of Maine and came to California in 1858. He settled in Lassen county, where he has been known as one of the prominent stockman of that section. The record of his life carries many stories of the west and his biography would furnish an illuminating page in the history of the settlement of the Pacific coast. He came to Reno nine months ago but had been in ill health for some time. His death comes as the culmination of sickness and old age. Many friends of Lassen and Modoc counties, California, mourn the passing of this sturdy figure of the west. He leaves considerable ranch property to his widow and progeny. Besides his widow, Mr. Eva L. Studley, he leaves sons and daughters Frank Studley of Adin, Cal., Clarence Studley of Chico, Cal., Mrs. C.M. Harvey of Santa Cruz, J.E. Campbell and Miss Eva S. Campbell of Reno. The remains are now at the funeral parlors of Groesbeck and O’Brien and the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
