Frank Thayer Killed



  At 4 o'clock on Thursday afternoon an accident occurred in the Ward mine by 

which Superintendent F.M. Thayer, formerly of Julia, lost his life.  While 

unloading a large hew stone for the works, the guy of a derrick gave way, the 

derrick fell, and the shod end of the boom struck Thayer on the top of the 

head, crushing his skull.  He lingered until 8 o'clock yesterday morning, when 

death came to his relief.  The deceased leaves a wife and family and numerous 

friends to mourn his death.  He was a member of Virginia lodge No. 3, F. & A. 

M., by the member of which his remains were taken in charge.
