Mrs. Wedekind Dies at Age of 83
Pioneer of State Is Called By Death; Was Widow of Man Who Owned Famous Mine
Mrs. Helene Elizabeth Wedekind, widow of the late George H. Wedekind, discoverer
of the Wedekind mine, near Sparks died yesterday, aged 83 years after an illness
of several months.  Funeral arrangements await word from her children who reside
out of town.  Her body is at the Perkins-Gulling undertaking parlors.
Mrs. Wedekind first came to Nevada in 1868, settling at Hamilton, Eureka county.
 She had resided in Reno 20 years.  Her husband took a fortune from his mine
near Sparks in a few weeks and sold it to the late Gov. John Sparks who sank a
fortune and recovered poetically nothing.  George Wedekind died 10 years ago. 
The family home is at 764 Mill street.
Mrs. Wedekind was a native of Kiesel, Germany.  She was mother of John L.
Wedekind, of California; Louis G. Wedekind of Reno’ Henry G. Wedekind of Eureka;
Mrs. Lillian Stickler, of Berkeley, and Mrs. Elizabeth Laden, of Reno.

Wedekind- In Reno, March 5, 1915, Helene E., beloved mother of John L. of
California, Harry G. of Eureka, Nev., Louis E. Wedekind of Reno, Mrs. Elizabeth
Laden of Reno and Mrs. Lillian Stickler of Berkeley, Cal., widow of the late
George H. Wedekind of Germany, a native of Germany; aged 83 years 2 months 29 days.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend the funeral services on
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the chapel of the Perkins-Gulling Company,
Rev. Samuel Unsworth officiating.  Interment in Mountain View cemetery.
