White yesterday was largely attended. Promptly at two o’clock the corpse was borne from the Palace Hotel to the hearse thence to the Methodist Church, the bereaved husband being accompanied in his carriage by Mr. and Mrs. John Cannon and Mrs. James Furguson, followed by a large number of sympathetic friends in carriages and on foot. The remains were enclosed in an elegant metallic casket on which were placed two large beautiful floral wreaths. The following prominent citizens acted as pall bearers: W. R. Chamberlain, A. Lindley, L. J. Flint, A. A. Evans, H. P. Krause, J. E. Knowles, R. S. Osburn, J. J. Becker, William Goeggel and Nathan Roff. At the church a large audience had already assembled. Reverend G. W. DeLaMatyr officiated, assisted by Rev. Mr. Ewing, of Truckee, the sermon being preached by Reverend DeLaMatyr on the subject of the immortality of the soul, and was a logical discourse, drawing his argument from the analogy of the laws of nature and the evidences of the soul’s separate and distinct existence from the tenement of clay, in which it is encased during the brief space allotted to human life. The choir rendered in a very effective manner several appropriate and affecting hymns. At the conclusion of the sermon the remains were viewed by nearly the entire audience, and looked very natural, showing that the deceased passed away as if in a placid sleep. From the church to the cemetery the procession was composed of thirty-two carriages, and after brief services at the grave the remains were deposited in their last resting place, amid the silent grief of the affectionate husband, surrounded by a large circle of sympathizing friends.
