Information from surviving markers at Hamilton, Nevada Cemetery To accompany pictures taken by Linda Clements (with the help of John Crowley) on 20 August 2011 The cemetery is large and has/had a lot of graves. It is stretched over a hill and has a lovely view—even though mostly abandoned it is a pretty nice place to lay at rest. However, most of the graves have lost their markers and many are collapsed and/or very overgrown. The far northern end of the cemetery is fairly steep going down the hill and is very overgrown and it is hard to even get through to all the graves; however, the graves can be seen and I don’t believe we missed any markers there. Like most old Nevada cemeteries, there are some wooden markers whose lettering has been scoured away by the elements. In the “tamer” south end of the cemetery there are some tombstone marker bases left with the actual stone gone. However, the presence of artificial flowers (and/or the remains of vases) on some of the graves indicates that some people still visit the cemetery, and since we last visited a new grave (from a 2008 death) has appeared in the far southeast corner.
