Brooks, who died at Aurum, White Pine county, on the 4th of December. The old gentleman was 73 years of age. He came to the coast in ’49, by way of Mexico. He built the second sawmill at Coloma, and later the celebrated Natoma ditch at Mormon Island. In 1860 he went to Virginia, with two quartz mills. He afterwards operated in Austin and White Pine, and has expended a great many thousands of dollars in mining enterprises. He was largely interested with Wm. Burke, of White Pine, and James Burke, of Reno, in their mines near Virginia. He has a brother in Boston, who is a very wealthy man.
