Billy Mike



Billy Mike died Saturday, May 12, 2007. He was 87.



Billy was born the eighth of 16 children on June 4, 1919, in Round Mountain to

Alex Mike and Sophie Andrews Mike. He was raised by Charlie Mike after the death

of his father, when his mother married Charlie.



Billy was a member of the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe and attended the Carson

Indian School in Stewart and graduated on May 18, 1945. After graduation he

moved to Chicago, where he worked on the electrical parts for signs. He then

moved and worked in San Francisco as an airplane assemblyman in the 1940s. On

May 28, 1952, Billy went to work for the U.S. Government as the Postmaster of

the Duckwater Post Office until his retirement on Feb. 15, 1974. Thereafter, he

moved to Ely and lived the remainder of his life.



Billy was baptized on Jan. 2, 1954, and confirmed a member of the Church of

Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Jan. 3, 1954. On Feb. 14, 1954, Billy was

ordained a Deacon, later that year on May 30, he was ordained a Teacher. On Dec.

9, 1956, as a member of the Lund Ward, Billy was ordained a Priest.



Billy is survived by his sisters: Ida Smith of Duckwater, Patty George and Marie

Mike both of Ely, Louise Epaloose of Zuni, N.M., Delphine Ford of Callville Bay

and brothers: Cleveland Mike of Fallon, and Steve Mike of Duckwater; and

numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and cousins.



Billy is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers: Red, Johnny, Moccasin and

Gene; cousin Bobby Mike; and sisters: Ada Pressy, Beads Jeff, Ruth Rosse and

Pauline Mike.



Funeral Services are set Thursday, May 17, at 11 a.m. in the Duckwater Shoshone

Tribe Gym at Duckwater. Pallbearers will be Richard Mike, Cordell Mike, Daniel

Mike, Rodney Mike, Jose Mike and Keith Honaker. Honorary Pallbearers include:

Kenneth Mike, Terrence Mike, Allen Mike, Dennis Talas, Richard Sammi Jr., Zane

and Jerome Epaloose, Bennie Reilly, Garland and Merle George, Burton Smith,

Julius and Ed Wight, Ricky, Randy and Elroy Mike, Boyd Graham.



Burial is to be held in the Duckwater Tribe Cemetery in Duckwater.
