Born in Augusta, Ga., he was the son of the late Gideon Allen and Mary Magdalene Philpot and stepson of the late Thomas Philpot. Mr. Philpot is survived by two daughters, Serina Jones of Rensselaer and Celeste Philpot of Albany; three grandchildren, Sonji Russell of Albany, TaMarah Philpot of Seymour, Conn. and Nikkiea Philpot of Albany; two brothers, Lincoln B. Philpot of Charlotte, N.C. and Johnathan M. Philpot of Albany. He is also survived by many cherished great-grandchildren. Baciewicz, Helen Spiak WATERVLIET Helen Spiak Baciewicz died Friday, July 30th, 2004 after a protracted illness in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on January 28, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Parania Kulmatyzka Spiak. Survivors include three children, Frank A. Baciewicz, Jr., M.D. of Detroit, Mich., Anne M. Baciewicz, Pharm.D. of Cleveland, Ohio and Peter A. Baciewicz, M.D. of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Anthony Spiak of Latham, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank A. Baciewicz, Sr.; her daughter, Marian A. Baciewicz, who died while serving in the Peace Corp in Africa; and her brother, Emil Spiak. Per her wishes, her body was donated to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for medical education and research. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday August 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 515 19th Street, Watervliet, N.Y. with a receiving line after the Mass. Clarke, 88, of New Scotland and formerly of Cape Cod, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at Childs Nursing Home, Albany. Mrs. Clarke was born in Albany on August 1, 1916. She was the daughter of the late William L. and Charlotte G. Blaum. Mrs. Clarke was an alumnus of Milne High School, Mildred Elley School and Russell Sage College. She worked for the NYS Department of Labor for several years but always assisted her husband, Charles, as part owner of the Charles B. Clarke Insurance Company in Delmar. Mrs. Clarke was a member of the Unionville Reformed Church for 50 years and was very active with the Sunday School. She was a long time resident of the Town of New Scotland and a past member of the Town of New Scotland Historical Society. While living in Chantilly, Va., Mrs. Clarke was employed by Fairfax County as an historian, working at the Richard Bland Lee Plantation in Chantilly. In her retirement on Cape Cod, Mrs. Clarke was a part owner and business manager of Saltaway Cottages in Eastham and was a member of the Board of Trade and a officer and director of the Eastham Historical Society. She was an artist, working with oils. Each of the cottages at Eastham supplied her with her art work. In a short time, even though they were not meant for sale, the guests insisted on purchasing the paintings and they are now located all over the USA and Canada. Mrs. Clarke is survived by her best friend, business partner and husband of 66 years, Charles B. Clarke; her son, C. Bill Clarke and his wife Priscilla and her grandson, Charles W. Clarke, all of Altamont. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Webb, himself a member of the Albany Police Department, she joined her sister, Mary Van Dyne, as a police matron for the department. She was the wife of the late John J. Webb and John H. Connors Jr.; mother of the late Eugene J. Webb; sister of Mary Van Dyne of Albany and the late Evelyn Murphy and John Cushing; grandmother of L. Geoffrey Webb of Santa Fe, N.M., Allison Webb Desmarais of Barrington, N.H. and Gregory P. Webb of Washington, D.C.; great-grandmother of Tilcara Gay Webb, Amaica Gay Webb, Reilly Weaver Webb and Nora Catherine Webb; mother-in-law of Mary Ann Webb of Palo Alto, Calif.; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Crane, Barbara GUILDERLAND Barbara Crane, of Stockbridge and Albany, born on July 12, 1957 in Oceanside, N.Y. to Neill and Barbara Sickles, died on August 3, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Barbara attended Nassau Community College and created a successful professional career, working with and for the needs of special education children. She worked at Nassau Center for Developmentally Disabled Children, the Bright Waters Group Home for Emotionally Disturbed Adolescent Girls and Stockbridge Plain School. Barbara and her husband Chuck (Charles) eloped on January 31, 1980 in New Lebanon, N.Y. It was on Long Island that they celebrated the birth of their first child, Jacob. Due to the opportunities associated with work, they moved to Stockbridge in the mid-80s where they had their second child, Casey. They have also lived in Holyoke, Ariz., Kan. and Albany, returning to Stockbridge after each of these adventures. Barbara's primary focus in life was her husband and her children. She was also a lover of animals, involved in rescue missions and the show ring. Barbara was an artist, creating miniature pen and ink drawings. She was an avid reader, movie buff and cherished meaningful quotes. Her heart always allowed her to advocate for the underdog with grace and panache. Barbara leaves her husband, Chuck, of 25 years and her son, Jacob and daughter, Casey. She also leaves her brothers, Skip Sickles (of NYC), Rick Finney (of New Lebanon) and Robert Davis (of Ariz.); her sisters, Carla Sickles, Rachel Finney and Julia Davis; two nieces, Becky Sickles and Mallorie Finney; one nephew, Devon Finney; parents, Joe and Deannie Crane; and mother, Barbara Sickles of Lenox. Barbara was predeceased by Rachel and Rick's son, Justin. He was born in New York City and has been a resident of the Capital District for 18 years. Sal was a graduate of the Junior College of Albany with an associate in applied sciences degree. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and participated in group activities at the Vet Center in Albany. He received special recognition from the Homeless Action Committee due to his concern for the homeless. Sal was also an avid fisherman, a lover of nature and animals (Walter, Reba and Amigo) and was a member of the Capital District Bass Masters. He was an open and compassionate man and has many friends from all walks of life. He received his bachelor's degree from Clarkson College in 1963 and was a member of Omnicron PI Omnecron Fraternity. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, then worked briefly for the California Department of Transportation and from 1967 until his retirement in 1996 as a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. She was born Helena Morse Johnson in Braintree, Mass. on July 18, 1908, the eldest child of Howard and Helena Johnson. She attended the Dana Hall School for Women. She studied music in Boston with Professor Whitney of the New England Conservatory of Music. Her music was her passion and she was a church soloist throughout her life. In 1931, she married Hollis S. Ingraham M.D., who later became the New York State Commissioner of Health. He predeceased her on May 30, 1994. She resided in Slingerlands for more than 50 years before entering the nursing home. She is survived by their four children, Priscilla Pultz and Sylvia Goetzmann, both of Skaneateles, N.Y., Mark Ingraham, an attorney in Pennington, N.J. and Irad Ingraham, a retired supreme court justice in New Berlin, N.Y. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Born in Niskayuna, N.Y., Shirley was a 1968 graduate of Guilderland High School and a former employee for 25 years of the General Electric Company. For the past 10 years, Shirley was a clerical worker for Xerox in Albany. A member of the GE 1/4 Century Club, she enjoyed bowling in the Town & Country Sunday Night Bowling League and loved and followed NBA and WNBA basketball. Shirley dearly loved her family. Perry Court #27, Order of the Amaranth; The Shakespearean Society of Rensselaer, N.Y.; the Rensselaer Mothers Club; the AARP, where she received an Outstanding Service to the Community Award in 1996; the Rensselaer City Historical Society (chapter member) the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a member for over 50 years of the First Baptist Church of Rensselaer. Marx VanDerWerken, 84, formerly of Winston Pl., died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at home after a short illness. Mrs. VanDerWerken was born in Schenectady and attended Carman Schools. For many years, she was a paraprofessional at Central Park Junior High school and Mont Pleasant High School, retiring several years ago. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards with family and friends. She had been a communicant of St. Luke's Church. Mrs. VanDerWerken was predeceased by her husband, Francis VanDerWerken, who died in 1970. She is survived by ten children, Dennis (Joanne) VanDerWerken of Yuma, Ariz., Patricia (William) Tuccillo of Rotterdam, Joan (Joseph Jr.) Sorrentino of Rotterdam, Mary (Samuel) Stack of Latham, Anita (Timothy) Ross of Clifton Park, Lois Bickerstaff of Va., Frances (Robert) Trossbach of Nassau, Francis VanDerWerken of N.C., Carol (Ted) Bizan of Altamont and Janet (Ronald) Cirincione of Rotterdam; two sisters and a brother, Gladys Dillman of Va., Matthew Marx of Rensselaer and Mary Hunt of Schenectady; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Daniel F. and Robert VanDerWerken and two sisters and brother, Florence, Walter and Gloria. Funeral service Saturday morning 8:15 from Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 9:00 St. Lukes Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Wallace III and Leann Neusch Wallace, was born July 31, 2004 and died August 2, 2004 at the Albany, New York Medical Center. She came into this world for just two short days but brought so much joy and love into everybody's life that she touched. She will be missed greatly. Brooklyn is survived by her parents, Elmore F. Wallace III and Leann Neusch Wallace; her brother, Elmore Frank Wallace IV (E.J.); and her sister, Madison Leann Wallace from Malta, N.Y. She is also survived by her grandparents, Elmore Frank Wallace Jr. and Ruth Finn Wallace of So. Burlington, Vt. and her grandparents, Ann Hans Neusch and Lawrence E. Nash of Lower Burrell, Pa. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Private funeral will be held on Friday, August 7, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Claverack, N.Y.
