MENANDS George F. Becker Jr., 84, passed away Monday, August 16, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Tacoma Park, Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late George and Mary Wallace Becker Sr. and husband of the late Dorothy Becker. Mr. Becker was a World War II US Coast Guard veteran and recipient of three Bronze Stars for combat in the Pacific. After graduating from R.P.I. in 1953, Mr. Becker was employed as a mechanical engineer at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna for a number of years before retirement. He was a member of the First Church in Albany, Reformed, a life member of the Menands Fire Co. and had the honor of being its oldest member. He was also a member of the Elfin Society. Mr. Becker was an avid outdoorsman and avid sailor. He is survived by three children, Robert Becker and his wife Linn of Hoosick Falls, Diane Byrnes and her husband James of Munda, N.Y. and Linda Heim and her husband William of Delmar; a brother, Wallace Becker of Lake George; and a sister, Blanche Thayer of Richford, Vt.; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Becker was also predeceased by his sister, the late Marion Cook. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2004 at the Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany. Buckley, 80, of Myron Street, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at the Ellis Hospital Long Term Care Center. Mr. Buckley was born in Schenectady and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Buckley was a graduate of the former St. Columba's School and a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Class of 1947, where he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He was a communicant of St. Helen's Church in Niskayuna. Mr. Buckley was a long time member of the Schenectady Jewish Community Center, where he loved to swim. Mr. Buckley was a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Health in Albany for 40 years until retiring. Mr. Buckley is survived by six children, Lynn B. Aber and her husband John of Durham, N.H., Laurie B. Longfield of Niskayuna, Lizabeth A. Buckley and her husband David Boyle of Brooklyn, Paul T. Burns, died suddenly Friday, August 13, 2004. Born in Albany, he was the beloved son of Rita (Pratt) Burns and husband for 19 years to Judy K. (Shell) Burns. He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman H. Pratt, Sr. Rich was a graduate of Rensselaer High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the Rensselaer Knights of Columbus. He was a loving father and devoted fan of his children's sports teams and active in the Rensselaer Little League and Rensselaer Pop Warner Football. Rich loved music and was an artist at heart. He also enjoyed bike riding, bowling, and talking on his cell phone. Rich was (and always will be) a die-hard fan of the NY Yankees and NY Jets. Cappello, Joseph SCHENECTADY Joseph Chiz Cappello, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 surrounded by loving family after a brief illness. Born on August 20, 1914 to Anthony and Marietta Cappello, he was a lifelong resident of Schenectady. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne (Potenza) Cappello. Joe's life was committed to family, church and country. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the General Electric Company for 50 years and was an active member of the G.E. 50 year club following his retirement in 1980. Papa devoted his time after retirement to his granddaughters, passing on his love of music to them. He was a communicant and active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Schenectady for 40 years. He was also an officer and member of the Knights of Columbus Rotterdam Council as well as the Holy Name Society. Survivors include his two daughters, Carol (Paul) Heckman of Glenville and Joanne (Fred) DeNovio of Clifton Park; three granddaughters, Lauren, Lesley and Krista; his brother, Patrick Cappello of Vera Beach, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Cappello of Scotia and several nieces and nephews. TROY Thomas G. Connally, 70, of Troy, died on August 16, 2004 at his residence with his family by his side. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Thomas M. Connally and Helen Healy Connally and the devoted husband of Patricia Anthony Connally of Troy. Mr. Connally was a graduate of St. Augustine's School and Catholic Central High School (Class of '51) and served in the US Navy from 1952 through 1954 aboard the USS Tarawa. He started his career at the Watervliet Arsenal in the machinist apprentice program and retired in 1988 as a middle manager after 35 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Tom worked for Ken Gowey Dodge in Troy. Mr. Connally served on many boards and committees including the Chairman for the United Way of Northeastern New York Federal Campaign and the Junior Achievement Program and was active with his children in Little League, Drum Corps and many community activities with the late Rev. Al Smith O.S.A. He was an avid golfer and bowled at the Alpha Lanes. Survivors in addition to his wife include four sons, Thomas A. Connally (Susan) of Troy, Kevin M. Connally (Maria) of Colonie, Christian M. Connally (Jennifer) of Troy and Michael J. Connally (Lisa) of Albany; three daughters, Mary Patrice Bonham (Clark Andrew) of California, Lisa A. He worked as a financial manager with the U.S. Postal Service in Colonie and had been employed by the Postal Service for 44 years. He was a member of St. Madeleine-Sophie Church and was an avid golfer and cook. Matthew was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Parady DiFiore in 1980 and his mother, the late Rose DiFiore. Gansle, 93, of Hackett Ave. in Colonie, died Monday evening, August 16, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Bernhardt and Barbara Wineg Gansle. Mr. Gansle had worked as a sheet metal worker for New York Central Railroad in West Albany for 27 years. More recently, he had worked for the South Colonie Central School District, retiring in 1976. He was the former vice president of Sheet Metal Workers Local #398. Benny was a social member of the Fuller Road Fire Department. He enjoyed long walks, camping, family vacations and playing cards with his family. He was always there to support his family in all of their endeavors. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ruth Kampfer Gansle. He is the beloved father of Christine Baird of Rochester, Paul B. Gansle (Sandra) of Colonie, Stephen L. Gansle (Marbry), Amy R. Kircher (Harvey), all of Loudonville, and Bernard K. Beverly was born on May 31, 1937 in Swampscott, Mass. and was married on March 23, 1958 to a loving husband, Edward H. Hills. She also leaves behind five children, Cheryl, Heidi, Robin, Jonathan and Tracey; four sisters, Sonya, Phyllis, Dorothy and Gail; and two grandchildren, Wallace and Meghan. Beverly was a dedicated employee at various government positions, including as secretary to the commander of the U.S. Navy Reserve at Amityville, N.Y. and secretary to the director of the Los Angeles region of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She taught her crafts to Tracey with great skill. Tracey will continue crocheting in Beverly's memory. Mr. Kraft was employed by Kemper Insurance, retiring in 1980 after 25 years of dedicated service. Frederick was an active member of Temple Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, Albany. He was born December 27, 1915 in Ottawa, Kan., the son of John D. Lewis and Anna Charlotte Haworth Lewis. John was retired from the American Medical Association where he was senior scientist in the department of drugs. He was also author and coauthor of several books and articles on drugs and AMA drug evaluations. After retirement in 1980, he was retained by the AMA as a consultant for two years. John Lewis was a member of several medical professional societies and was listed in several biographical books such as Who's Who in the Midwest. In 1983, he was awarded a distinguished service award by the alumni association of Ottawa University. Prior to his work with the AMA, he was with Sterling Winthrop Research Institute in Rensselaer, N.Y. His other interests and hobbies included music, gardening, nature photography and conchology. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther Moffatt Lewis, presently of Sugar Hill, Dalton, Mass.; a daughter, Charolette Amodeo, Castleton, N.Y.; a daughter, Joan Mayer, Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Elsie Holley, Riverton, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. As an active member of the Albany South Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses up until the time of his death, he enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing his faith with others. He was the father of 12 children who worked hard throughout his life to support and care for his family. His kind, friendly manner combined with his sense of humor and warm smile endeared him to many. He worked in Albany for the State of New York from 1971 to 1984, first for the NYS Health Department's virus laboratory and later the department of environmental conservation. Rev. Perrins served churches in the Troy Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; since 2000, he was pastor of the Fonda-Fultonville and Salem-East Stone Arabia UMCs. Rev. Perrins was married on September 9, 1967 to the former Valerie Hallenbeck.
