Jennifer was born on March 26, 1976 in Albany, N.Y. and was a life long Ballston Spa resident. She was an assistant media director for Berkshire Marketing Group in Troy. Jennifer loved animals, her favorite being her bird Buzz. She also enjoyed flower gardening, reading, swimming, working at the computer and spending time with her friends and co-workers. Jennifer will be remembered for her joyful spirit and giving heart. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Ballston Spa. Dewitt, 79, of Albany, died suddenly, Friday, August 27, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Charleston, S.C. and retired from the N.Y.C. School District. Fossett, Janet Perloff DELMAR Janet Perloff Fossett, 50, died on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at home after a long illness. Janet was born and raised in New York City and earned a bachelor's degree from Kirkland College and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Chicago. Before moving to Albany in 1989, she lived in Chicago, where she held research positions at the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Veterans Administration and served on the faculty of the University of Illinois. Since moving to Albany, she has served in faculty and administrative positions at the Schools of Social Welfare and Public Health at the University at Albany. Her last position was as Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the School of Social Welfare. Dr. Perloff dedicated her life's work to public health and social welfare issues. She was nationally known for her scholarly contributions in the field of maternal and child health. She co-authored a book and published more than 50 articles, book chapters and scholarly reports during her academic career, and served as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for a number of scholarly journals. After she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, she became active as an advocate and spokesperson for women with breast cancer and their families. She made appearances in local media, worked with breast cancer organizations on funding and programming and co-authored a resource guide for parents seeking advice on talking to their children about their serious illnesses. Her leadership and dedication was recognized in 2003 when she was awarded the University at Albany faculty award of excellence in academic service. Janet is survived by her husband of 15 years, James W. Fossett, and their son, Jeffrey Fossett; her mother, Sondra Perloff; two sisters and their spouses, Linda and Bob Freundlich and Sheila and David Eddison; brother-in-law, Larry Fossett; one nephew and two nieces. Marie was active in Our Lady of Mercy Church and in the Tanglewood neighborhood of the Village of Colonie. Hildebrandt, 97, of Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs and formerly of Hope Falls Rd., Northville, N.Y., entered her heavenly home on Saturday, August 28, 2004. Born on August 24, 1907, Clara celebrated her 97th birthday on Tuesday. A Brooklyn, N.Y. native, she was the daughter of August and Emilie Kirschmann. Clara had resided in Queens for many years. She married Arthur M. Hildebrandt on June 10, 1934, raising a family and instilling Christian values as a homemaker and mother of three. In later years she worked as a secretary of a law practice in NYC. She and her husband retired to Florida and were members of King of Glory Lutheran Church in New Port Richey. Clara's hobbies were gardening, swimming and dance. Her husband died in 1989. She moved to her daughter's home in 2000. Survived by daughters, Elaine Hlaing and her husband Htay, of Northville, Arlene Jackson of Glenville and Carol Catanzaro and her husband Andrew of The Woodlands, Texas. Jastrebski, Jane SCHENECTADY Jane Jastrebski, 88, formerly of Clarendon Street, died Friday, August 27, 2004 at the Glendale Home, following a long illness. Jane was born in Schenectady on May 6, 1916, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Papierniak Stenka. Jane graduated from St. Adalbert School and worked for Schenectady City School System at Franklin, Yates and Linton Schools for many years. Jane was a volunteer for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts Troop 66 at St. Anthony's and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Jane was the wife of the late Vincent Jastrebski who died in 1990. Survivors include her beloved children, Joan C. Thuotte of Rotterdam, Andrew W. Jastrebski of Ballston Lake and the late Joseph J. Born October 2, 1952, in Troy, N.Y., she was the daughter of Dorothy B. Crandell Ackner of East Poestenkill and the late Stanley J. Goodermote. She was the loving wife of Kenneth W. Maxfield Sr., whom she married in Brunswick on October 12, 1968. Mary attended both Berlin schools and Union Gospel Church in E. Poestenkill as a young woman. After raising her five children, she became a rural route carrier for The Record for the last 21 years covering Pittstown, Raymertown, Troy and Brunswick. She enjoyed gardening and shopping at Wal-Mart but the love of her life were her grandchildren. McCormick, Margaret Dugan TROY Margaret Dugan McCormick passed away peacefully Saturday, August 28, 2004 in the company of her family after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease. Margaret was born in 1919, the daughter of John P. Dugan and Mary Kennedy Bergan of Amsterdam, N.Y. Margaret was educated at St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam where she graduated in 1937 as the class valedictorian. Margaret graduated from the College of St. Rose in 1941. Upon marrying in 1958 she retired from the NYS Thruway Authority where she worked as an accountant. Margaret is remembered as a woman who gave love unconditionally to her children; giving special love and affection to her daughter Mary Joan. Mary responded to this love by becoming a successful and independent woman. Margaret leaves a loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Joseph C. McCormick; daughter, Katherine Bishop (Paul); son, Michael J. McCormick (Sharon); and grandchildren, David and Jacob Bishop and Michele McCormick. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas J. Neeson, retired battalion chief of the NYFD, and the late Mary A. Cahill Neeson. Mr. Neeson was a 20-year resident of Albany. Prior to that, he resided in Haines Falls from 1963-1984. He was the cherished and constant companion and caregiver to his late mother until the time of her death on October 20, 2002. An avid fan of the NY Jets, Brooklyn Dodgers and the Detroit Red Wings, he also enjoyed painting. As a young man, he was a member of the NYCFD Auxiliary. Vincent was also one of the first members to join the Haines Falls Volunteer Fire Department. He held a special place in his heart for the men and women who serve in law enforcement, fire safety, the military and American Veterans organizations. Mrs. Querques came to Albany in the 1940s and was in retailing since the age of 16. She was a fashion merchandising retailer at Flah's and retired when she was 81 years young. She was a 10 year volunteer in the gift shop for SPARC and received an achievement award from St. Peter's for her years of service. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Querques; dear mother of Janet P. Leach (J. Ronald) of Loudonville and St. Pete Beach, Fla., Trudy J. Smith (Robert L.) of East Greenbush, MaryLou Paradise (John W.) of Guilderland and John J. Helene enjoyed bowling in the WIBC bowling league in Mechanicville for a number of years and was a member of the Assumption-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville. Stepnowski, 84, formerly of McClellan Street, died Friday afternoon, August 27, 2004 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home following a long illness. Frank was born in Schenectady on November 18, 1919 and graduated from Schenectady schools. After graduating, Frank worked for General Electric for several years. During World War II, Frank entered the United States Army, serving in the 101st Air Borne squadron in Europe where he jumped behind enemy lines and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war, he returned to GE where he was employed as a welder until retiring in 1985 after 43 years of service. Frank was a communicant of St. Helen's Church and was an usher for many years. He was an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues. In January of 1949, Frank was united in marriage to the late Louise Bologna Stepnowski until her death on March 2, 2001. Survivors include his beloved sister, Mrs. Catherine I. Bittner of Newburgh; the late Edward Stepnowski and Walter Stepnowski; also survived by two nieces, two nephews, five great nieces, a great-great-niece and nephew. Services will be held Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, Schenectady then to St. Helen's Church, Union Street where a Mass will be celebrated at 9. Interment will follow the Mass in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Monday evening from 6 to 8.
