Duncan of Galway, born into eternity, a loving husband of Cathi and father of Ian and Alyssa, passed away Friday, August 27, 2004 at St. Clare's Hospital. Richard was the only son of Charles and Elizabeth Duncan, formally of Ballston Lake, N.Y., who predeceased him. He leaves behind many relatives as well as friends who all loved him dearly. Our loss is deeply felt. Richard was an inspiration to us all. He lived life to the fullest. With his loving wife, Cathi, they traveled extensively visiting destinations such as Hawaii, Scotland and the Canadian Rockies. But his favorite was Lake St. Catherine in Vermont. He and his family celebrated many moons at their camp with family and friends. Richard loved people and easily made friends everywhere he went. He was extremely patient and kind. Organization was his method of madness in his den of antiquity. He was a scintillating conversationalist expounding his knowledge over a multitude of topics, including music, writing, graphic design, the weather and a variety of wild life, including rock hoppers. Besides these, his other passions were Corvettes, philosophy, Korean food and the Yankees. One of his favorite sayings was, Luck don't have a thing to do with how you play the game. While attending Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and Utica College, Richard played in several rock and roll bands. After graduating from Utica College, Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He later met the love of his life, Cathi in 1972 and they were married a year later. After becoming an example of courage and patience in 1974, he continued his independence and furthered his education by earning his degree in civil engineering from Union College. His dying words were, tell everyone I love them. We are all better people as a result of knowing him. Disce Pati.
