Vadney LATHAM Donna A. Vadney Anderson, 51, of Hunter's Run, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born in Albany on March 5, 1953, the beloved daughter of Elwood and Mary C. Wirasnik Vadney of Glenmont. She was raised in Feura Bush and was a 1971 graduate of Ravena High School. She later attended Vermont College in Montpelier, Vt. where she studied medical secretary science. She was employed by the New York State Senate in Albany as an administrative assistant for the past 26 years. Donna was a devoted wife and mother who continued to amaze medical professionals with her activities during her illness. She most wanted and continued to be the best wife and mom, supporting her husband and daughters till the final days of her illness. Dignity, integrity and character mattered most to Donna, and she exemplified those attributes and persevered to instill those qualities in her daughters. She enjoyed watching her daughters participate in field hockey and softball. She traveled to Europe with her daughter's field hockey team and traveled to Fla., Canada and throughout numerous states with her daughter's softball team. What mattered most to Donna though was that her daughters conduct themselves with good character, never taking the expedient road to success, but doing things the right way. She was the selfless backbone and inner strength of the family who never complained during her illness, instead preferring to remain in the background. In addition to her parents, survivors include her beloved husband, David J. Anderson; two cherished daughters, Rachel M. Anderson and Jill A. Anderson, both of Latham; and her loving brother, Glenn S. Vadney of Delmar. She was the sister-in-law of Dolores and Michael Mitchell of Latham, James Anderson of Watervliet and Barbara and Robert Stewart of Lindenhurst, N.Y. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins. The funeral will be Saturday morning at 9:15 from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 15th St. & 6th Ave., Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Rev. Thomas M. Barnes, Margaret Marvin TROY Margaret Marvin Barnes (Peggy), 94, of Troy, N.Y. died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness. Born in Troy, N.Y. on Christmas Day, 1909. She was the daughter of the late Dwight Marvin, former editor of the Record Newspapers in Troy, and the late Marian (Hobbie) Marvin. Mrs. Barnes was married to the late Dr. Eric W. Barnes, a distinguished Broadway actor of the 30s, former head of the English department at Russell Sage College and a noted author. Mrs. Barnes was educated at Emma Willard School, the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, Germany and Connecticut College. She completed graduate work at Radcliffe College, the Boston Museum School, Columbia University and Russell Sage College. In retirement, she resided on Cape Cod, returning to Troy in 1989. Before being married, Mrs. Barnes was employed as a self-employed portrait painter and taught art at Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, Mass. She also taught history of art at the Loomis-Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. from 1964 to 1975. Peggy was a lady in every sense of the word. Her graciousness and elegant manner pervaded all facets of her life. She was a voracious reader, correspondent and conversationalist (in four languages) and would entertain guests with fascinating stories of her life experiences. Mrs. Barnes was a devoted member and communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy. She is survived by a son, Charles T. Barnes (Cheryl) of Niskayuna, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Deirdre B. Harris of Burlington, Vt., Eric W. Barnes of Boston, Mass., Erica Barnes Thomas of Bethesda, Md., Brandon T. Barnes of Charlestown, Mass.; and a great-grandson, Cameron Harris of Burlington, Vt.; a brother, Keith Marvin of Worcester, Mass. He was an honorary life member of Albany Council #173 K of C and was an avid golfer, having a hole-in-one, and was president of the Vero Beach Golf League. He was past president of the Burden Lake Improvement Association and a member of the Northeastern Subcontractors Association. Mr. Chouiniere retired after 39 years of employment from the Norton Co. in Watervliet where he had been employed as marketing manager. He then went to work for the former Regal Art Press in Troy for about seven years. He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh and was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved playing poker. He especially loved being with his family. Hall, 62, a resident of Monument Avenue, Bennington, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. Born in Troy, N.Y. January 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Clarence F. and Ann (Stirling) Hall. He received his early education in Troy and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Miami. Mr. Hall later received both his master's and Ph.D. in industrial psychology from the University of Akron. Mr. Hall served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was stationed in both Vietnam and Germany and, at the time of his discharge, had obtained the rank of captain. Mr. Hall married the former Patti Hockman in Bennington on December 17, 1983. He began his career as an instructor of statistics at the University of Akron and later as an instructor of psychology at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. He also served on the faculty of Wayne College in Orrville, Ohio as assistant professor of psychology and co-coordinator of industrial training before working for the State of Ohio doing research and industrial training. From 1975 until 2004, Mr. Hall was employed by the Albany International Corporation as director of benefits, compensation and human resources. He retired February 1, 2004. Mr. Hall was a former member of the planning commission for the Town of Bennington and also served two terms on the Bennington Select Board. He was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Troy Country Club in Troy, N.Y. His main interest was his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Patti H. Hall of Bennington; three sons, John J. Hall of San Jose, Calif., Matthew R. Hall and Andrew S. Hall, both of Bennington; two grandsons, Maxwell D. Hall and Ethan R. Hall, both of San Jose; two brothers, Stirling G. Hall of Charlotte, N.C. and C.F. Tom Hall of Vero Beach, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Elder Johnson was born to the late Sam and Mary Johnson in Shubuta, Miss. on August 17, 1909. During his childhood in Miss., Bro. Jack attended the Shubuta Public School System. December 14, 1931, this Man of the People moved to Albany, N.Y. where he met and married Dorothy M. Charles. To this union, seven children were born, five boys and two girls. From 1932 to 1990, he transported over 100 families from Shubuta, Miss. to Albany, N.Y. He became known as the Modern Day Harriet Tubman. In 1952, Elder Johnson founded St. John's COGIC at 7 Dungan Ave. in Albany, N.Y. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Harold Harrington and Marion (Humphrey) Harrington and wife for 58 years on July 7 of Ronald W. King. She had resided in West Sand Lake most of her life and was a graduate of Averill Park High School and Albany Business College. Mrs. King was a homemaker and many years ago worked for Troy Belting Supply and Kelly Services. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in West Sand Lake. Survivors in addition to her husband include a son, Russell W. Born in Boston, Mass., he later moved to New Hampshire. Mr. Matisoff enjoyed a long career as manager of inventory and sales for Hampshire Designer Mills in Manchester, N.H. Later moving to the Albany area, he resided at the Beltrone Living Center and, most recently, the Massry residence. An accomplished artist in water color painting and sculpture, he received numerous awards for his work. His talents were displayed at Temple Gates of Heaven in Schenectady and are currently on display at the Massry Residence in Albany. He was a member of the League of Arts in New Hampshire. Mr. Matisoff enjoyed the game of baseball and played with the Industrial Baseball League. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Minna Weiner Matisoff; his children, Judith (Eric) Block of Niskayuna and Robert (Nancy) Matisoff of McLean, Va. Born on June 21, 1961 in Watertown, N.Y., she was the daughter of Janice (Risso) McGraw and the late James J. Risso. Teri was a long time area resident and graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. She received her degree from Adirondack Community College as a registered nurse and worked for many health care facilities including Wesley Health Care Center, Maplewood Manor Nursing Home, Saratoga Hospital, St. John Neumann Residence and, most recently, Anne Lee Albany County Nursing Home. She also did per diem work and home health care. She enjoyed golf, fishing and bowling and was a member of the Syracuse Women's Bowling Association. In addition to her father, who died in 1967, she is predeceased by her stepfather, James Mugsy McGraw, who died in 2002. He was born June 20, 1916 in Buffalo, N.Y, a son of George and Ella Romann Schuessler, and was a graduate of Buffalo schools. On August 3, 1943, Erv was united in marriage to the former Mildred I. Hunt in Pa. She predeceased him on July 8, 1987. Erv joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, where he served as an aviation mechanic on B-24s until his discharge in 1946. A Hamilton resident for most of his life, he had worked as an aircraft mechanic for the Benson Colgate Flying Corp. for several years before and after his military service, earning his aviation engineer's license. He then owned and operated the Atlantic Service Station and later the Mobil Station until his retirement. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Kay E. and John Hoffman of Loudonville, N.Y.; a grandson, Kenneth Hoffman; a granddaughter, Donna Patterson; four great-grandchildren, Monica and John McKenzie Hoffman, Shelbie Ballard and Kiley Patterson. Madeline was born in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of the late George and Rose Stockin. Her childhood was spent in Meridale, N.Y. Madeline graduated from Treadwell High School. In 1935, she married Ralph A. Shaver and they lived on the Shaver family farm until they moved to Oneonta in 1943. Madeline worked as a manager for the Bresees Department Store in Oneonta from 1948 until her retirement in 1982 at which time she moved to Scotia. Madeline was predeceased in 1977 by her husband, Ralph. Madeline is survived by her daughter, Virginia Shaver of Scotia; her grandchildren, David R. Shaver, his wife Rosemary and their children, Brendon, Brittni, Ashleigh and Gabrielle, all of Delmar, and Lisa S. Radley, her husband William and their children, Jack and Samuel of Clifton Park.
