DuPrau, 51, of Deerfield Drive, died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a horrific fight against breast cancer. She was born in the old Leonard Hospital in Troy on August 8, 1952, the beloved daughter of Robert and Winnifred Mc Loughlin near the town of Quaker Springs, N.Y. She was a 1970 graduate of Schuylerville Central Schools and attended Hudson Valley C.C. for two years and then transferred to SUNY Brockport where she received a B.S. in health education. Then she earned her master's degree from Russell Sage College. Lois was employed by Brunswick (Brittonkill) Central Schools for 29 years as a health teacher, where she excelled in her thoroughness and professionalism, and earned not only her peers' respect but also her students. During her illness, Lois was a devoted wife, mother and teacher who simply amazed everyone she knew. The lengths she would go to travel to school to teach, go watch a basketball or softball game or just make it up the stairs at night were astounding. The pain and discomfort she was in was noticeable but her inner strength got her through. She coached J.V. girl's basketball for 16 years. One of her proudest achievements in coaching was that, over that time, she never had a losing record in any season. She was one of the few people in the basketball stands that, when her children were playing in a basketball game and she was yelling either at the referee or the coach, she actually knew what she was talking about. Lois wanted to be the best wife and mother she could during her illness and rarely complained. Her first and last thoughts each night were about her children, how they were doing in college and high school and how the illness was affecting them. She never thought of herself as being courageous; her desire was to try and keep as normal a lifestyle as possible for her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years, John (Jack) H. DuPrau; two cherished children, Christopher J. and Jennifer L. DuPrau, all of Cohoes; her loving sister, Maureen Nelson (Patrick) of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Robert Mc Loughlin (Kathy) of Jericho, Vt. and Michael Mc Loughlin of Quaker Springs, N.Y. She is also survived by, most importantly, her loving uncle and aunt, Edward and Elizabeth (Uncle Ed and Aunt Betty) Hanna who traveled so many times to the house and hospital for doctors' meetings and conferences and lent support when she so needed it, there is no way to thank you. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. The family would also like to thank Cynthia Dawkins, Michelle Butler and Patricia (Patty) Maloney for all their support during the last three years. When questions needed to be answered, rides given, test results retrieved, comfort support given at 2 a.m., you were there. We can not thank you enough. Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, Monday morning at 8:30. Funeral Mass from St. John's Episcopal Church, Cohoes at 9:00. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Schuylerville. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home, Sunday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lois M. DuPrau Scholarship Fund at Brunswick Central School. Checks should be made payable to Brunswick Central School in memory of Lois DuPrau and mailed to Brunswick Central School, 3992 NY 2, Troy, NY, 12180.
