HOOSICK FALLS Peacefully into the arms of his Lord, Edward M. Agan, Sr., 91, died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born in Grafton, he was the son of the late Clifford E. and Nettie Bell Eldridge Agan. Mr. Agan was employed by Neisner Department Store and Albany Garage as an upholsterer. For 15 years, Mr. Agan and his wife were caretakers for the Dexter, Barnaby and Cross Orthopedic Office in Albany. Ed was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Albany. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Mary M. Albert Agan who died June 13, 2004. He is the brother of the late Vera Horton Brown, Leta Wagar, Rena Thayer, Effie Eldridge, Erna Whitman and Clifford E. Agan, Jr. He is survived by his loving children, Carol L. Hanley and her husband Robert, Edward M. Agan, Jr. and his wife Judy; his devoted grandchildren, Lisa M. (David) Tymchyn, Erin L. (David) Nuzzi, Jennifer B. Hanley, Scott E. (Amy) Agan, Joelle (Kevin) Brady; great-grandchildren, Samantha A. Tymchyn, Daniel R. and Joseph P. Nuzzi, Ashley L., Zackery S. and Eric C. Agan, Colin D. and Chelsie M. Brady. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Floyd E. Bacon and Francis Fox Bacon and was the devoted husband of Judy Tufts Bacon of Malta. Mr. Bacon was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from the Norton Company in Watervliet due to his disability. Mr. Bacon was a former member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh. Burnham, 81, of Albany died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Frank and Irene Lape Swint. Frances was a retiree of the General Electric Company in Schenectady. She was predeceased in 2000 by her husband, Charles H. Burnham. Frances is the beloved mother of Charles V. Burnham of Albany and Paul A. Burnham and his wife Julie of Guilderland. She is the sister of George Swint of Albany and Mary O'Mara of Altamont. She is the cherished grandmother of Austin Daniel and Victoria Lynn Burnham. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Saehrig and Leah Salisbury Saehrig and wife of the late Philip T. Campana who died in 1976. Raised in Lansingburgh, she was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. Mrs. Campana was office manager with the equipment department for the New York State Department of Transportation in Waterford for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross, troop leader for Bluebirds in Troy and member of the PTA of Troy School. She is beloved mother of Joan Golden (David) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Geraldine Campana of Phoenix, Ariz. and Nancy Rayno of Waterford and the late Sandra Michon; sister of the late Leah Dahl, Julius Saehrig, Betty Hayes, Elsa Clarkson and Frederick Saehrig. Carr Jr., age 22, of Albany Shaker Rd., died suddenly Friday at his home in Loudonville. Born in Albany, he was a resident of the Capital Region all of his life. He was a graduate of the LaSalle Institute, Class of '99, where he achieved the rank of captain and was a member of the drill team and other LaSallian functions. He currently was a student at Siena College and was an intern in a student capacity for Assemblyman Bob Prentiss. He was the beloved son of William F. and Suk (Kwon) Carr Sr. of Loudonville; grandson of Margaret E. Carr and the late Reginald A. Carr of Stephentown; nephew of Sok Albert; and cousin of Onnum Kwon, both of Loudonville. Billy is also survived by nine wonderful aunts and seven uncles from both Stephentown and Korea, as well as many, many dear friends. Mildred Fowler Caswell, 85, died June 12, 2004 in Bradenton, Fla. she was born in Buskirk, N.Y. to Harry Hunt and Addie Barnhart Hunt. A long time resident of Colonie, N.Y. she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Dept. and member of Pine Grove Methodist Church. Mrs. Coyle was born October 16, 1919 in Earlton, N.Y. to William and Hazel Roe Deere. She was the system manager for Whitney Shoes in Albany for over 20 years before retiring in 1972. Hilaire, 87, formerly of Latham, died peacefully Friday, July 9, 2004 at Child's Nursing Home in Albany followed by a long illness. Born in Cohoes, January 7, 1917, he was the son of the late John B. and Mary (Goyette) Hilaire and the loving husband of the late Jessie (Bulson) Hilaire, who died January 22, 1976. Mr. Hilaire was educated in Cohoes City Schools and attended Lansingburgh High School. In January 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II. While serving in the Pacific Theatre as part of the 4th Marine Division, he was involved in four island invasions, including Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged as a private 1st class in October of 1945. A resident of Latham for over 45 years, Mr. Hilaire was employed for over 25 years as a machinist by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. He retired in 1982. Mr. Hilaire was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Loudonville and sang in the church choir. He was active in the American Legion and a member of the 4th Marine Division Association. In his quiet time, he enjoyed the hobbies of gardening and making leather crafts. Mr. Hilaire's survivors include two nieces, Joan Maney of Lansingburgh and Ruth Michon of Waterford; a nephew, Robert (Lois) Galbraith of Raymertown; and several great nieces and nephews. O'Brien, lifelong resident of Watervliet, died on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Watervliet on November 24, 1939, he was the son of Clara A. Huth O'Brien, with whom he resided, and the late Alfred L. O'Brien. Dan was a 1957 graduate of Watervliet High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He served in the United States Army in Korea in an intelligence and security unit. After his honorable discharge, he worked at the Watervliet Arsenal, successfully completing a journeyman apprenticeship leading to designation as a master machinist. He had been an active member of the labor union representing Aerospace Workers and Machinists. Dan worked for the Cluett Peabody Co. in Troy and the Nashua Corp. in Watervliet before retiring in the mid-1990s. He had a long affiliation with the First Presbyterian Church of Watervliet. In his earlier years, Dan belonged to local dart and bowling leagues. His interests included reading, collecting classic radio program tapes and oil painting. He especially enjoyed trips along the Hudson River, where he found Native American arrowheads, developing an extensive personal collection. Survivors besides his mother include two sisters, Carol A. Zepf of Watervliet and Constance M. Brown of Latham; two nieces, Pamela C. Zepf and Cynthia Brown; and two great-nephews, Charles A. Madsen and Daniel E. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Frank Quickenton and Julia (Coons) Quickenton and husband of the late Alice M. Rockenstyre Quickenton. He had resided the past 36 years in Troy. Mr. Quickenton was a bus driver for CDTA for 11 years, retiring in 1987, and worked for many years at the Williams Press in Menands. He was a member and past commandant of the Marine Corp League O'Brien Detachment Albany and the Department of New York Marine Corp League and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific theatre. He is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Andrew) Bockleslaugh of Ky., Patricia (Philip) Boccagni of Ky. and Susan (Gerald) MacDougal of Troy; a son, James P. (Tina) Quickenton Jr. of Apopka, Fla.; a sister, Loretta (Alfred) Flynn of Albany; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Rustad, Mary L. BALLSTON LAKE Mary L. Rustad, died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She was born in Ausable Forks, N.Y., the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Grayce E. (Croll) Kayea. She was a retired nurse whose unselfish care of others spanned over 40 years. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. During the long months of her illness, she was courageous and uncomplaining but carried on with strength of character and dignity, qualities that she held dear her entire life. She was a homemaker and lived in Latham for the last two years and previously lived in Albany for 58 years. Mrs. Sereikis attended St. Ambrose Church in Latham and before that she attended St. Vincent dePaul Church in Albany. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, cooking and cleaning. Veeder, Pearl M. COLONIE Pearl Matilda Dott Veeder, 87, of Colonie, died Friday, July 9, 2004 after a brief illness. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late Frederick and Matilda Dott. Pearl was a 1934 graduate of Albany High School. She had worked for Albany County Welfare Department and Schenectady Locomotive Works. In 1953, Pearl and her husband Harold started Veeder's Restaurant in Colonie. The restaurant had been a Colonie landmark for 50 years. Pearl is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Harold M. Veeder. She is the devoted mother of Harold Bruce Veeder (late wife Mary Ann) and Michael Jay Veeder (wife Martinez). She is the cherished grandmother of David, Christin, Jessica, Mark (Sheba), Michael, Amanda, Kelsey and Lindsey; great-grandmother of Luke. She is the sister of Joan, Jack and John (Butch) Dott. EAST GREENBUSH Jesse F. Wilson, age 82 years, of East Greenbush, died Friday, July 9, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospice Center after a long illness. Born in Wellsboro, Pa., he came to the Capital District in 1939. He served in the US Army during World War II. In 1955, he started Allied Refrigeration, which later became Albany/ARI Refrigeration. He retired from the business in 1987. Jesse was a Mason and a member of Wadsworth Lodge #417 F&AM, receiving a plaque for 60 years of membership. He was involved in many other organizations in the Capital District, including AXA of Albany, and was very active for many years with the Cub Scouts in West Sand Lake. Jesse was an avid bowler with the East Schodack Recreation Club for many years and, after he retired, he took up golfing. He enjoyed spending his winters in Winter Haven, Fla. where he was known as good old Mr. Wilson. One of the things that everyone will remember about Jesse is his stories and he had many to tell. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Clare Wilson, and their children, Wayne of East Greenbush, Karen (Robert) Arnold of East Greenbush, Marilyn Moses of Chesterfield, Mich., Ruth (David) Wedge of Averill Park and Terri (Howard) Petell of East Greenbush.
