Cottrell, 83, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y. He resided on Fox Hollow Road in Petersburg, N.Y with is wife, Helen. He was born June 8, 1921 in Peekskill, N.Y., the son of Jonathan and Abbie Cottrell. Harold graduated from Peekskill High School in Peekskill. He served during World War II and attained the rank of staff sergeant. While in the Army Air Forces, he received the following medals European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Air Medal and the Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a turret gunner on a B17 Flying Fortress and was attached to the 15th Air Force stationed in Italy. Harold retired from the Union Carbon Plant in Bennington, Vt. He also ran the family farm on Fox Hollow Road. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8417 in Hoosick Falls as well as the V.F.W. Post #1332 in Bennington, Vt. Survivors other than his wife, Helen include four sons, William James Cottrell of Bennington, Vt., Harold (Hal) S. Cottrell of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Robert (Rob) M. Cottrell of North Hoosick, N.Y., Richard S. Cottrell also of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; three daughters, Susan M. Bond of La., Jean M. Starr of Petersburg, N.Y. and Karen E. Todd of San Antonio, Texas. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as his dog, Sabrina. Two brothers, Irving and Robert Cottrell and one sister, Alcha Patterson, predeceased him. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 15 at 10:00 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Members of the V.F.W. Post #1332 will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to conduct their services. Fink, Dorothy S. ALBANY Dorothy Shapiro Fink died Tuesday, July 6, 2004. Mrs. Fink was born in Glens Falls, New York, a city to which she was always attracted. After graduating from Glens Falls High School, she attended New York State College for Teachers in Albany. She received BA and MA degrees with high honors, excelling in history and philosophy. She worked as a caseworker for Albany County Social Services/Jewish Social Services. She then worked for Mount Morris Tuberculosis Hospital as a medical social worker, where she was recognized for her supportive efforts and special initiatives on behalf of her geriatric and alcoholic patients. After the hospital was closed in 1971, she returned to Albany and became a volunteer for the Veterans Administration Hospital, where she was subsequently honored for her 15,000 hours of volunteer efforts. She was also a volunteer for other community health care facilities, including Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. She always felt that her most rewarding life experiences resulted from her dedication to helping others. Mrs. Fink, predeceased by her husband Al; is survived by her sisters, Freda Figelman and Cecile Schifferes; sister-in-law, Millicent Shapiro; four nieces and one nephew; three grand-nieces and five grand-nephews and cherished special friends John and Sandy Phillips. Gill, 76, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2004 after a short illness. He was born September 27, 1927 in Gloversville, N.Y., the son of Joseph and Martha (Blunck) Gill. Robert served in the United States Navy Seebees. He was an Oneonta fireman from 1953 to 1983. He also was the caretaker for the Glenwood Cemetery from 1989 to 2002. Robert was a 50 year area resident. He was a member of the Oneonta VFW and American Legion Posts, the Oneonta Elks Club, the Otsego County Road Runners Club and St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta. Robert is survived by two daughters, Nancy and her husband Pasquale Scisci of Niskayuna and Carol and her husband Clark Walker of Millbrook; a son, Robert J. Gill of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Genna and John Scisci of Niskayuna; a brother, James Gill of E. Meridith; a niece, Patricia Pelligra of West Laurens; two nephews, Michael Gill of Kingston and Ben Carey of Davenport; and his former wife, Dorothy Gill. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Gill. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2004 at the St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, officiating. She retired after 25 years with Blue Cross-Blue Shield, where she was an examiner. Her dear family and friends will remember Sue as a woman of strength and courage as she faced so many physical challenges with grace and a smile. She was the wife of 28 years to the late Anthony T. Gione, Jr.; loving mother and best friend of John I. Prividera of Latham and a late infant daughter, Karen Ann Prividera; former wife of Sammy Prividera; several cousins and many special friends also survive. Born in Valley Falls, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Immaculata Sasso Grieco. Mr. Grieco owned and operated the Jade Barber Shop in Albany from 1932 to 1993. He was a member of the Albany Barbers Association and at one time was voted the Best Dressed Barber in Albany. He was a former longtime member of the Albany Elks and communicant of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Albany. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine Vargo Grieco, in December of 2000. He was the stepfather of Mary Ann Camilli, Joann P. McClure, Irene Eons, Regina Kosiba and her husband Kevin and the late Anthony Gione Jr.; brother of Margaret PaFundi, Thomas Mottolese and the late Carmella Mottolese. Also survived by nine grandchildren, nieces, nephews and new editions to the family tree. Hiesel, 77, a resident of Nassau, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at The Community Hospice in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Before his retirement in 1987, he was a supervisor on the Parkway for the New York State Department of Transportation. He enjoyed sailing, music, bird-watching and playing his saxophone in a big band. Born in Clinton Corners in 1927, he was the son of Charles Hiesel and Anna Kurling. A veteran of World War II, Ray served with the U.S. Air Force in the European Theater of Operations. In 1950, he married Marion Cash Hiesel. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, James of Hudson, David of Colo., Jeanne of N.C. and Diane Holford of Nassau; two sisters, Irene Dewar of Ariz. and Maryann Ayasse of Colo.; and a granddaughter, Nicholle Hiesel of Mass. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1583 Carney Road, Castleton on Saturday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Rebecca Clark will officiate. He lived in the Albany area for 69 years where he worked in maintenance prior to moving to New Jersey to be near his family. Stephen was predeceased by his wife Alice (nee Rustin). He is survived by his three children; Denise Landset and her husband David of Ocean View, N.J., Edward and his wife Jolinda of Laurel, Md. and Walter of Cape May Court House, N.J. Madej, 81, of Consaul Road, died Monday July 12, 2004 at the Glendale Nursing Home. Born in Schenectady, Mr. Madej lived in the Schenectady area all of his life. He worked as a taxi cab driver, a stock room employee at the General Electric Company and worked in the library at SUNY Albany. During World War II, he drove military vehicles cross-country for the Army. Mr. Madej was a member of the Empire and the Eldorado Campers Association and a NASCAR racing club. He is predeceased by his wife, Ruth M. Madej, she died in 1985, and a brother Edmund Madej. He is survived by three daughters, Pamela Jean Madej of Schenectady, Barbara Ann Thomas and her husband John of Fultonville, Donna Lynn Baker and her husband William of Corinth; one son, John J. Madej, Jr. and his wife Bea of Scotia; one brother, William Madej of Scotia and one sister Regina Anderson of Schenectady; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. ROUND LAKE John E. Milczarek, 76, of Round Lake, died suddenly, Sunday, July 11, 2004 in an airplane accident. Born April 5, 1928 in Schenectady, son of the late Ernest and Sophie Krulak Milczarek. He lived in Round Lake all of his life. John worked for General Electric as an engineer for 42 years before retiring in 1990. John was a member of the Round Lake United Methodist Church, Quarter Century Club at GE. and a member of (EEA) Experimental Aircraft Association. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Gori Milczarek of Round Lake; one son, John E. Milczarek, Jr. and his wife, Marian of Round Lake; two grandchildren, Christopher and Stephanie Milczarek, both of Round Lake. She was born on September 22, 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Milwaukee Downer College and married Russell G. Oswald on September 7, 1935 in Racine, Wisconsin. Russ was a Naval veteran of World War II. He held a law degree from Marquette University and MSW from Loyola University of Chicago. Russ and Jane moved to Schenectady in 1957. Russ was a career correctional administrator and retired from NYS service in 1977. Russ had previously served as chairman of the parole board, Commissioner of Correctional Services and as a member of the crime victims compensation board. Jane was previously employed in the admissions unit at Albany Medical Center and was a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution. Russ predeceased Jane on March 8, 1991. They are survived by their son, Kurt Oswald of Niskayuna; daughter-in-law, Janet (Huebenthal) Oswald of Ft. Edward; beloved grandchildren, Karl, Emily and Aarik of Ft. Edward. Russ will be interred with military honors together with Jane during a private family ceremony at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in July of 2004. He was born in Waterford and educated in Cohoes and was the son of the late Herman and Josephine Jacon Roberts. He was a self employed contractor operating R & M Construction Co. He was a former member of the Lansingburgh Veterans, a World War II Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre and a member of the Brunswick Elks. He is survived by his wife, Marie L. She retired from US Airways with 29 years of service. Ellen was a very talented, creative artist who loved to paint and make keepsakes for her family. She is survived by her devoted husband Charles; three beloved children Susan, Jayne and Richard. Survivors include sons, Jeffrey Lee and Charles Louis Walton both of Albany; sisters, Virginia Walton and Louise Robinson both of Albany, Etta Gladney of Coeymans and Ruth Simmons of Selkirk; and several grandchildren. In the early 1970's, she attended Schenectady Community College in the Hotel/Motel Management program. Delores was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Glenville Senior Center. Delores was predeceased in 1999 by her husband Robert Witkowski Delores is survived by her son, Robert Witkowski and his wife, Amy; a daughter, Susan Asmus and her husband, Kip of Burnt Hills; three grandchildren, Louis, William and Robert Witkowski also survive.
