GUILDERLAND Grace L. Bensinger, 87, formerly of Lyons Ave., Delmar died Monday, July 12, 2004 at her home. Mrs. Bensinger was born in Albany on August 16, 1916, the daughter of the late Miner and Grace Frink. A graduate of Albany High School and Mildred Elley, she was the legal secretary for the former Albany County District Attorney, John T. Garry II. She later worked for the N.Y.S. Legislature and then as a medical receptionist for Dr. Robert Yates and Dr. Jose Nebres in Albany. Mrs. Bensinger was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Onesquethaw Chapter #818 and the Delmar Reformed Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Bensinger and her sister, Helen Whitney. She is survived by two daughters, Denise Boyne and her husband James of Canton, Conn. and Diane Ruszczyk and her husband Stephen of Glenville; five grandchildren, Frank Niessen, Kim Niessen, Stephen Ruszczyk, Jeffrey Ruszczyk and Kristen Calabro; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Ruszczyk and Lauren Calabro; a niece, Christine LeValley; a nephew, Dr. Ronald Whitney; and a great nephew, Grant LeValley. Buswell, of Rowley Road, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 74. Born on May 17, 1930 in Lake City, Iowa, he was a son of the late Ray and Geraldine (Lasher) Buswell. He was a graduate of Churdan High School in Iowa and attended mechanic diesel school. He was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War and in Japan and stationed with the 656th Radar Squadron at the Stillwater Air Base at Ketchum Corners for 12 years. Employed as a sales representative for Davey Tree Service Co. of Kent, Ohio, working for them in Latham, N.Y. He also was co-owner of All Seasons Tree Service, retiring in 1993. He loved animals and owned several horses though the years, including his team of Belgian draft horses, Candy and Blondie, who were often seen at the Saratoga County Fair, and at sleigh rides at the 4-H Training Center and at several area parades, including the Travers parades. A member of the Latham Rotary, Eastern Regional Draft Horse Assoc., American Society of Consulting Arborists and a former member of American Legion Adirondack Post 70. A hard worker and a person who loved helping children, he enjoyed spending time with his family and the great outdoors, including gardening, fishing, hunting, boating and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed traveling, including trips to Iowa and Ohio, the Amish country and horse sales. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Darrel Buswell and two brothers, Elmer and Vernon Buswell. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary (Ranhofer) Buswell; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale R. Buswell Jr. and Cynthia Buswell, both of Mechanicville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Thomas Bradbury and Jacqueline and John Traver, all of Ballston Spa; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Rebekah Buswell, Amy Bradbury, Justin and Rachel Traver, Morgan and Michael Buswell; one great-grandson, Alex Buswell; one brother, Harrie (and Kay) Buswell of Berea, Ky., Mary Mallison of Atlanta, Ga. and several nieces and nephews. NORTH GREENBUSH Raymond William Conway, 72, died July 16, 2004 at his home. Born in Troy, he was a longtime resident of the Town of North Greenbush. He was educated in Troy, a 1950 graduate of LaSalle Institute and of St. Bernardine of Siena College in Loudonville, receiving his degree in 1961 after returning from military service. As a commissioned officer, he served in the U.S. Army Artillery in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for a number of years at the Watervliet Arsenal and subsequently for the New York State Division of Budget, Workers Compensation Board and the New York State Comptrollers Office where he retired from in 1992 after 25 years of service. He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Church and a member of the church men's club and finance committee, was co-chair of the renovation and expansion committee and was a past trustee. He was also a longtime member of V.F.W. Post #1019. Ray was predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 42 years, Margaret Peggy T. Griffa, who was also of Troy. Survivors include his son, Timothy R. Conway of Brunswick, N.Y.; four daughters, Mrs. Susan Gibbs of Lexington, S.C., Mrs. Colleen M. Davenport, 91, of Halfmoon Dr., died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, N.Y. She was born June 29, 1913 in Walden, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late John and Sadie (VanGorden) Sprague. She graduated from New Paltz State Normal School where she obtained her degree in teaching. Her love of children and teaching was shared for the next 40 years, teaching elementary education in the Troy and Waterford school systems and later retiring from Shenendehowa School District. She was a member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, New York State Teachers Association and AARP. Besides Maude's unconditional devotion, support and love for her family, she enjoyed crafts, scrap booking, sewing, crocheting and flowers. Deubert, 89, of Athens, N.Y. died Friday, July 16, 2004. Born in Heilbronn, Germany on November 16, 1914 to Ferdinand and Lina (Wertheim) Deubert. He came to the United States in 1927 with his parents and siblings. Ferdinand attended school in Kingston, N.Y. before moving to Coxsackie. He served in the Merchant Marine in the Pacific during World War II. He earned his license as a diesel engineer and worked for many years as chief engineer on the tugboat, Samson, for Standard Oil. After leaving Standard Oil, he worked as a stationary engineer for New York State at Coxsackie Correctional until his retirement. He was a licensed ham radio operator and a member of the Rip Van Winkle Amateur Radio Society. Ferdinand was predeceased by his brother, Helmut and sister-in-law, Hazel Deubert, and nephew, Wayne Morgan. He is survived by his sister, Irene (Ted) Morgan of Fla; nephews, Roy Morgan of Fla. and Michael (Linda) Deubert of Coxsackie; and great-nephews, Mark and Brian Deubert. Dorenz, Arnold ALBANY Arnold Dorenz, age 87, of Forest Avenue in Albany, died Friday evening, July 16, 2004 at the Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany. Mr. Dorenz was born in Albany and resided here all his life. He attended Phillip Schuyler High School and the Albany High School. For more than 30 years, he had been the proprietor of the Display Arts Studio Inc. in Albany and was retired. He was a member of the Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias in Albany and had been active with their bowling league. He was also an avid card player and enjoyed dancing, having won many dance contests over the years. As a youngster, he played basketball for the Albany Jewish Community Center. He also enjoyed sports. He was honorably discharged from the Army and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Anita Gallup Dorenz; and his children, Benay Dorenz of Boca Raton, Fla., Diane Miller and her husband, Kevin of Menands, N.Y., Helayne (Hinda) Goliger and her husband, Joseph of Baltimore, Md. and Stuart Dorenz and his wife, Jacqueline of Latham, N.Y.; brother of Lillian Wolfson and Asa Wise, both of Albany. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Jack returned to graduate from Delanson High School. Mr. Dowling was also a veteran of the Korean War. Moore, Elaine CHARLTON Elaine Moore, 75, of Charlton, retired from her life among us peacefully at home and went to her new home in Heaven on July 16, 2004 after a 16-month battle with cancer. Born in Westminster, Vt. on January 3, 1929, Elaine has lived in Charlton since 1956 as a mother, grandmother and homemaker. She is survived by Ernest Moore, her loving husband of 53 years; and two sons, David and his wife Cynthia (Farr) and Paul and his wife Lori (Sholtes), all of Charlton; as well as eight granddaughters, Alicia, Heidi, Heather, Chelsea, Hannah, Lydia, Natalie and Chloe Moore. Survivors also include siblings, Clara Watkins, Ethel Strange, Ruth Martin, Richard Morse and Ralph Morse, as well as many nieces and nephews, all living out of state. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Morse; brothers, Stewart, Arthur and Payson Morse; and sisters, Olive Morse and Elizabeth Poneck. Elaine, together with her husband Ernie, was a founding member of what is now Greater Grace Community Church. In its early stages, the church met in the Moore family home and, for the last several years, Elaine has co-hosted the women's prayer meetings. Elaine's genuine love deeply blessed her family and friends and her quick wit kept us all laughing, even through her battle with cancer and on to her deathbed. We believe she is entertaining those in her company in Heaven with her humor even today. A memorial celebration of Elaine's life will be held Tuesday, July 20 at 10 a.m. at Greater Grace Community Church, 43 Round Lake Road, Malta, N.Y., co-officiated by her son, the Rev. David Moore. Rogers, 53, of Wertman Lane, died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Community Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Ithaca, N.Y., he graduated from Newfield High School and attended Corning Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He moved to the Capital District in 1989. He worked for New York Telephone and the Bell System for 34 years, first as a telephone installer and retiring from Avaya Communication in 2002 as a field operations manager. He then went to work for Expanets until his illness in July of 2003. Art was on the advisory board of ITT Technical Institute and was the 2002 commencement speaker. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales in Loudonville. Art was a man of many talents. He was willing to take on any task, big or small, including building his own home. He had a huge heart and was kind and generous to all. His sense of humor was one of a kind, especially with his sister-in-law, Kris. He was a retired senior designer for General Electric, Schenectady, retiring in 1985 after 42 years of service. He belonged to the Quarter Century Club, IFPTE Local 147 Gold Card Club. Mr. Shea was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired after 20 years of service from the Albany County Airport, serving as a sheriff deputy and security guard.
