Castle, Mary Norris GREEN ISLAND Mary Norris Castle, 95, of James Street, Green Island, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Van Rensselaer Manor. She was the wife of the late Hugh F. Castle. Born in Pittstown daughter of the late Michael and Mary Bolander Norris, she has resided in Green Island since 1916. Mary was a homemaker, a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Green Island and a member of its Altar-Rosary Society. Survivors include her children, Ronald (Phyllis) Castle of Troy, Donald Castle of Latham, Sister Marlene Castle, CSJ of Albany and Mary Lou (Chet Thompson) Castle of Green Island; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her son, Kenneth Castle and her brothers, Paul and William Norris. Born in Troy, he was a longtime resident of the Town of North Greenbush. He was educated in Troy, a 1950 graduate of LaSalle Institute and of St. Bernardine of Siena College in Loudonville, receiving his degree in 1961 after returning from military service. As a commissioned officer, he served in the U.S. Army Artillery in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for a number of years at the Watervliet Arsenal and subsequently for the New York State Division of Budget, Workers Compensation Board and the New York State Comptrollers Office where he retired from in 1992 after 25 years of service. He was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Church and a member of the church men's club and finance committee, was co-chair of the renovation and expansion committee and was a past trustee. He was also a longtime member of V.F.W. Post #1019. Ray was predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 42 years, Margaret Peggy T. Griffa, who was also of Troy. Survivors include his son, Timothy R. Conway of Brunswick, N.Y.; four daughters, Mrs. Susan Gibbs of Lexington, S.C., Mrs. Colleen M. Baker of Burnt Hills, N.Y., Mrs. Michele Auricchio of Perth, N.Y. and Ms. Peggy Ann Conway of Guilderland, N.Y.; a brother, Dr. Walter D. Conway of Williamsville, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Joyce A. Coyle Jr., 77, died peacefully Saturday, July 17, 2004 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late William J. and Mary McCann Coyle, Sr. Mr. Coyle was a graduate of the former St. John's School. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served with the Blue Devils 88th Infantry Division and obtained the rank of sergeant. Mr. Coyle served in occupied Italy with the 339th Field Artillery Unit. He was an assistant personnel director with the former Albany Casting Company and the former Adirondack Steel. He later worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Mr. Coyle was a communicant of St. James Church for over 42 years and recently of Holy Cross Church. He served as secretary of the Whitehall Little League for five years and was a member of the Watervliet Elks #1500. Mr. Coyle was an avid NY Yankee and NY Giants fan and was happiest when spending time with his family and grandchildren to whom he was devoted. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Anna M. Hargrave Coyle; daughter, Sharon A. Webber of Clarence, N.Y.; and son, Jeffrey M. (Rebecca) Coyle of Niskayuna; his grandchildren, Christopher W. and Timothy J. Webber and Brendan W. Coyle; his sister, Anna Mary Dacey of Nassau; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Sleeper and brothers, George and Albert Coyle. Dorenz, Arnold ALBANY Arnold Dorenz, age 87, of Forest Avenue in Albany, died Friday evening, July 16, 2004 at the Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany. Mr. Dorenz was born in Albany and resided here all his life. He attended Phillip Schuyler High School and the Albany High School. For more than 30 years, he had been the proprietor of the Display Arts Studio Inc. in Albany and was retired. He was a member of the Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias in Albany and had been active with their bowling league. He was also an avid card player and enjoyed dancing, having won many dance contests over the years. As a youngster, he played basketball for the Albany Jewish Community Center. He also enjoyed sports. He was honorably discharged from the Army and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Anita Gallup Dorenz; and his children, Benay Dorenz of Boca Raton, Fla., Diane Miller and her husband, Kevin of Menands, N.Y., Helayne (Hinda) Goliger and her husband, Joseph of Baltimore, Md. and Stuart Dorenz and his wife, Jacqueline of Latham, N.Y.; brother of Lillian Wolfson and Asa Wise, both of Albany. Dowling Sr., John F. (Jack) PALMETTO, Fla. John F. (Jack) Dowling Sr. of Palmetto, Fla., passed away suddenly July 8, 2004 at Manatee Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dowling was born September 9, 1926 in Albany, N.Y. to Frederick and Margaret Keegan Dowling. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Jack returned to graduate from Delanson High School. Mr. Dowling was also a veteran of the Korean War. Jack was a longtime resident of Delanson, N.Y. Upon his retirement from General Electric in Schenectady, where he was employed as a member of the security force, Jack moved to Fla. where he resided until his death. Mr. Dowling is survived by his mother, Margaret Riordan of Guilderland, N.Y.; two sons, John F. (Jack) Dowling Jr. of Delanson and Peter J. He was the husband of Edith (Marsh) Gambee. Born August 2, 1929, Mr. Gambee was the son of the late James J. and Anne (Sanford) Gambee. Mr. Gambee was a graduate of East Rockaway High School, class of 1947. He joined the Army's Universal Military Training Experimental Unit and served from 1947-1949. He continued his education at the University of Vermont graduating in 1954. He was general manager of Sysco Corp. from 1964-1970 and later became the owner and partner, of Paragon Enterprises before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Country Club of Troy and had served as House Co-Chairman for the past few years and served as chairman of the Pittstown Tax Review Board for the past ten years. During his retirement he was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by his sons, James and Michael Gambee; daughters-in-law, Laurie, Ellen and Patricia; six grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Gambee) Osborne, Salem, N.Y. Mr. Gambee was the father of the late William Scott Gambee who died in 2000. He was a World War II Army veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant. Harold received a Purple Heart, the Silver Star and the Medal of Honor. Harold was a truck body builder and fabricator for the former Ripley and Harpenger in Schenectady, retiring several years ago. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret A. McMinn, Vincent W. HALFMOON Vincent W. McMinn, 63, of Breski Lane, Halfmoon, died Friday, July 16, 2004, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 20, 1940, in Yonkers, son of the late Thomas McMinn and Rose (Ritcher) McMinn. He was educated in the Yonkers school systems. He continued his education while serving in the US Navy and US Army. He retired from active duty in the US Army, having served 22 proud years. Following his military career, he worked for the Albany Water Department from 1979 until 2000, as an administrative assistant. He and his wife were the heart and soul of their company, Professional Mailing Service, located in Halfmoon, which they both retired from in 2003. Vince was a lifetime member of the Mohawk Post 1450 American Legion and member of the VFW Post 729. He was the loving and devoted husband to Lucille (Bendell) McMinn of Halfmoon, whom he married August 14, 1965. Cherished father of Kelley Godino (Anthony) of Ballston Lake, Jeffery McMinn of Clifton Park and Anthony McMinn (Jennifer) of Ballston Spa; brother of Florence McGee of Roswell, Ga.; Thomas McMinn of Northridge, Calif.; Dorothy Houston of Pleasanton, Calif.; and Al McMinn of Woodbury, Conn.; grandfather of Samantha and Nicholas Godino and Connor McMinn. Stott, 78, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Health Care Center in Delmar. Mary was born and lived all her life in Coeymans Hollow. She was a housewife and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Coeymans Hollow. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Martin J. Stott. Wilt, Bernard M. GLENMONT Bernard M. Barney Wilt, age 82 years, of Glenmont Road, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He was born in Buskirk, N.Y. and has been a resident of Glenmont for the past 26 years. Mr. Wilt was employed as a maintenance supervisor for Atlantic Cement in Ravena for over 20 years. He was a member of the United States Army Calvary in World War II attaining the rank of sergeant. Mr. Wilt was a ham radio operator with the handle of KB2LNH and was a member of American Legion Post # 1040 in Delmar. He enjoyed working and repairing small engines and playing pool at the Ravena Senior Center and on the computer playing against people worldwide. Husband of Lydia E.
