Born in Poughkeepsie, Catherine had lived on Frederick Avenue in Colonie since 1967. She was employed as a secretary at Albany Appliance Distributors for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. Catherine enjoyed bowling and playing cards and was a fan of the New York Mets. Catherine was the wife of Harold Baker; mother of David and Susan Baker of Colonie; grandmother of Jeffrey, Joshua and Jessica Baker; and sister of the late Edward Broas, Esther Paollozzi and Helen Vigars. Ciampi, 71, of Guilderland, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 19, 2004 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Benvenuto and Rose Dell'Aquila. Albert had served in the New York State National Guard for several years. He was a longtime self-employed barber in Albany. More recently, he had worked for the New York State Senate for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. He was a talented musician and loved to play the accordion and piano. Al entertained professionally for over 50 years throughout the area with the popular trio, The Stylists. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the West Albany Gun Club and the Watervliet Fish & Game Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jacqueline Martin Ciampi. He is the devoted father of Stephanie Lostritto (Dominic) of Colonie and Ben Ciampi (Jessica) of Altamont. He is the brother of Nina Hoyt (Charles) of Colonie and the late Antoinette Pettograsso and Frederick A. Ciampi Sr. He is the brother-in-law of Mary Ciampi of Colonie. He is the cherished grandfather of Michael Dominic and Erica Rose Lostritto of Colonie. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Minnie Udell. She was the past president and a charter member of the Guilderland Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was the beloved mother of Edward (Carole) Cox of Latham, Richard Cox of Lakeland, Fla., Lorie Audet of Syracuse, Carolyn (Donald) Nichols of Guilderland, Donna (Edward) Hunt of Old Chatham, Kenneth (Barbara) Cox of Altamont and Jeffrey Cox of Altamont. Fisher-Yarter, A. Alicia Lee GUILDERLAND A. Alicia Lee Fisher-Yarter passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late William P. and Cecilia E. Kelley Carrigan. She was a lifelong resident of Albany. Lee was employed with the New York State Division of Parole before her retirement. She was very involved with the CSEA Union where she served as the local union president for the Division of Parole. Lee was an active volunteer and officer of the Upper Western Little League at its onset. She was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan. Lee will be sorely missed at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Albany, which she attended faithfully every year. She was predeceased by her husbands, Edwin H. Fisher and William Yarter. Lee is the beloved mother of William E. Fisher, Patti Forget and the late Pamela Twiggy Fisher and Colleen Fisher. She is the devoted grandmother of Nicole Forget, Meghan Fisher, Artie Forget, Kelley Fisher and Jack Gardy. Also surviving is her cherished great-grandson, Kameron. Frank, 79, of Kelly Ave., died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush. Born in Brooklyn on August 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Ernest T. and Helen Hawrey Frank. Robert graduated from Brooklyn Tech and then went on to graduate from Cooper Union in Manhattan where he studied civil engineering. From 1943-1946, he served in the Army Air Corps as a sergeant in the 762nd Army Air Force Base unit. He spent two of those years (1944-46) in the European Theater of Operations. He moved to Albany in 1955 and was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of Christ the King Church in Guilderland. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne Margaret McLaughlin Frank, who died August 16, 2001. Survivors include his children, Jeanne (Tom) Passarelli of Voorheesville, Mary Clare (Doug) Springer of Guilderland, Patricia (John) Staerker of Glenmont and Robert W. Frank of Glenmont. He is also survived by five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne M. Frank Lynn. Glynn, Cathy M. MALTA Cathy M. Glynn, 57, of Hearthwood Dr., died peacefully with loved ones at her side after a brief illness. Cathy was born in New York City. She graduated in 1965 from Mother Cabrini High School. Cathy attended classes at Mount St. Vincent College in Riverdale and Manhattan College, subsequently in 1969 receiving a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Mount St. Vincent College. She married Allan Glynn on June 21, 1970. For about five years, Cathy was a peer counselor coordinator for the Center for Independence in Albany; She was a national Park Service Ranger at Saratoga National Historical Park; she was a member of Worldwide Marriage Encounter; a communicant, lector and CCD instructor for Corpus Christi Church. Cathy spent time in Okla. after her husband's military experience in Viet Nam. She lived on the south rim of the Grand Canyon with her daughter and husband while he was a park ranger there. They also lived on Liberty Island for five years. Cathy was a lifelong advocate for people with disabilities. Cathy was also a housewife and homemaker. Cathy is survived by her beloved husband Allan Glynn; her cherished daughter, Erin Glynn of Albany; and a devoted sister, Jacquelyn Birch of Niskayuna. Cathy was predeceased by her parents, John and Catherine Wolf and her brother, Robert A. Wolf. ALBANY Edward Vincent Heffron, 87, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home. Born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. on July 17, 1917, he was the son of Edward A. Heffron and Mary J. O'Connor who were from County Mayo, Ireland. The family moved to Schenectady where Edward attended Nott Terrace High School. He married Marjorie Conover of Esperance on August 25, 1939 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady. He was retired from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Edward was a combat veteran of World War II, serving primarily with the 106th Division, U.S. Army Infantry in Europe. He and his loving wife were about to celebrate 65 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his daughter, Maureen A. Murphy. Survivors include his son, Dennis of Albany and his son-in-law, Brendan Murphy of Guilderland. Edward is also survived by his grandchildren, Deirdre (Jonathan) Zangwill of Philadelphia, Conor (Elizabeth) Murphy of Cooperstown, Brendan Murphy II of Guilderland and a great-grandson, Easton Thomas Murphy of Cooperstown. Albert served in the United States Army Field Artillery during World War II, touring Africa, Italy, Southern France and Germany. Albert recieved a Letter of Commendation for service at Anzio Beachhead on the Italian coast. Albert was a commercial tire salesman for 44 years. Albert retired in 1986 from Good Year Tire and Rubber Co. He had previously worked for B.F. Goodrich, and J.R. Sousa and Sons. Mr Hoyt was former Council Pres. of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Loudonville and council member in charge of finance, member of First Lutheran Church, Albany, member of the Louis W. Oppenheim V.F.W. Post 1019 and Past Post Commander, Past Commander of Albany City Council, Past Commander of V.F.W. District #3, Pres. and general chairman of 1960 New York State V.F.W. Convention and volunteer at Samuel S. Stratton V.A. Medical Center, Albany. Albert was a cherished husband, brother, father and son. His beloved wife, Leah Wilkins Hoyt of Colonie; devoted daughter, Linda Hoyt of New York City; and loving brothers, Donald C. Hoyt of Delmar and Douglas H. Hoyt of Schenectady, survive him. Kaczynski, Dolores Dixon LATHAM Dolores Dixon Kaczynski, 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 20, 2004. Dolores was born in Utica, N.Y. and was the daughter of Stanley and Katherine Moskiewicz. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and attended the Utica School of Commerce. She had many fond memories of her co-workers at Western Union in Utica and Flah's of Albany. Dolores felt that she had many blessings throughout her life. She was especially grateful for the opportunities that she had to travel with John, whom she married in 1981. With John, she lived in Saudi Arabia and southern California, and retired to Latham in 1992. They spent many happy days together there in their garden. As family and friends know, she was truly gifted in the art of letter writing. Her memory will be cherished through the love and care for others she shared through her writing and her laughter. Dolores was predeceased by her beloved husbands, James H. Dixon Jr. in 1973 and John Kaczynski in 2003. She was the loving mother of Kevin and Donna Dixon; mother-in-law of Cindylou Frinks Dixon, and the beloved grandmother of Connor and Riley Dixon, Nicholas, Kelly and Jon Ross DeRosa, and Melonie and Anthony Kaczynski. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Kathryn Kaczynski DeRosa and son-in-law, Dominic DeRosa and stepson and daughter-in-law, Richard and Toni Kaczynski. For the last two years, he was a partner in Jose Tejas Restaurant in Fairfield, N.J. Previously, he worked at the Millenium Hilton Hotel, New York City, as director of room service and the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza and Restaurant Associates at Rockefeller Center as the director of purchasing. He was an avid outdoorsman and fly fisherman, winning many awards including the East Jersey Trout Unlimited Service Award, the Federation of Fly Fishers' CuttCatch Award and the Wyoming Game & Fish Department's Cutt Slam Award. Jack came to Albany in 1955 to work for the Consolidated Gas Services where he worked until 1966, then becoming an operating engineer and working out of Local 106 until his retirement in 1993. O'Brien and beloved daughter-in-law, Valerie of Schenectady; two daughters, Patricia (Peter) Severino of Schenectady, and Lynn O'Brien of Saratoga; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Sally Yarwood of Syracuse. He was the loving uncle of Kimberly Prefore of Troy and several other nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. He was the brother of the late Margaret Bianca of Syracuse. She is predeceased by her loving parents, Sarah and Samuel Rudof; her beloved brother, Nathan, who she took care of for many years; and numerous dear friends. A native of Albany, Vera graduated from Albany High School and attended the University at Albany. She won the Times Union essay contest on the city of Albany when she was a senior in high school, with her essay appearing in the newspaper. After a career with the NYS Department of Health, Division of Laboratories, Vera retired to an active life of volunteer work and travel. She was a long term volunteer at Child's Hospital and at her Temple, Congregation Beth Emeth. Vera loved music and literature. A gifted pianist, she also sang with area choral groups. Her enthusiasm for life was shared with her family and friends. A favorite expression was, Isn't that grand!. Her friends will miss her bright smile. Born in Albany, N.Y., September 5, 1930, the son of Phillip H. and Margaret H. Movejon Smelzer, he was a 1948 graduate of Albany High School. He then served one year in the US Navy. He was employed by General Electric as a layout machinist from 1950-1990. He was an active member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pittsfield. He was married July 2, 1955 to Virginia F. Goyette, who died January 1, 1995. Mr. Smelzer leaves no immediate survivors. Among survivors are his sister-in-law, Evelyn Humphrey and a niece and godchild, Wendy Perroots; three nephews, Wayne K. Humphrey Sr., Keith and his wife Patricia Humphrey, and Evan S. Humphrey; a great-nephew, Wayne K. Humphrey Jr. and two great nieces, Renee A. Humphrey and Fallon M. Ruzzi and a great-great-niece, Shaylee M. Myers, all of New York State. The funeral for Wallace H. Smelzer will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church on Holmes Rd. with Rev. Harold Hoeppner, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Staubach, 81, of Sherman Avenue, Troy died Monday, July 19, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a long illness. Born in Haverstraw, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph Staubach and Helen (Kohberg) Staubach and husband for 62 years of Margaret Gibbons Staubach. He had resided in Rockland County, East Berne and, when retired, lived in Pottersville, N.Y. in the summer and in Rio Hondo, Texas in the winter. Mr. Staubach was employed as a carpenter and millwright for carpenters union Local 370 Albany for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and British Military Medal for gallantry in action. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Margaret (Dean) Courter of Troy and Helen Marsh of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Joseph Staubach of Troy; four grandsons; a granddaughter; and five great-grandsons. Warner, Leonard GUILDERLAND Leonard Warner, 81, of Church Road, Guilderland, died Sunday, July 18, 2004. He was born in Schoharie, N.Y., the son of the late Duryea Warner and Pauline Emma Plue Warner. Leonard served in the Army from 1941-1945 and is a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was past commander of the VFW 357 and a life member of the Saratoga DAV. Leonard was also very involved in the Albany County Boy Scouts. Leonrad was employed by L.C. Smith Transportation as a bus driver. Mr. Warner was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Smith and Thelma Laniewski. Survivors include his longtime companion, Helen Rood of Guilderland; two sons, Leonard Warner, Jr. of Guilderland and Paul Duryea Warner of Huntington, Pa.; five grandchildren, Christopher Warner, Nicholas Warner, Paula Warner, Mella Warner and Jason Rood; three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
