Born in Poughkeepsie, Catherine had lived on Frederick Avenue in Colonie since 1967. She was employed as a secretary at Albany Appliance Distributors for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. Catherine enjoyed bowling and playing cards and was a fan of the New York Mets. Catherine was the wife of Harold Baker; mother of David and Susan Baker of Colonie; grandmother of Jeffrey, Joshua and Jessica Baker; and sister of the late Edward Broas, Esther Paollozzi and Helen Vigars. Anderson Baker, 82, of Middle Grove, N.Y. and formerly of Main St., Cohoes, went home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2004, embraced by her loving family at Saratoga Hospital. Born in Cohoes, where she received her education, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Margaret Gendron Anderson and widow of Cohoes Police Officer Lt. Earl J. Baker. Esther lived most of her life in Cohoes before relocating to Middle Grove to live with her son. She was employed during World War II as a book keeper with Matton Ship Yard in Cohoes. Esther was a dedicated home maker, her family was the focus of her life. She looked forward to family visits and valued their love and support. A devout communicant of Grace Bible Church, she enjoyed reading her bible. Esther is survived by her loving sons, Arthur A. Baker of Clifton park and Craig W. (Shari) Baker of Middle Grove; her cherished grandchildren, Bryan Koniowka, David A. Baker and Debbie M. Yauch; her sister, Ruth Chastney of Cohoes; and many nieces and nephews. Ciampi, 71, of Guilderland, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 19, 2004 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Benvenuto and Rose Dell'Aquila. Albert had served in the New York State National Guard for several years. He was a longtime self-employed barber in Albany. More recently, he had worked for the New York State Senate for over 20 years, retiring in 1995. He was a talented musician and loved to play the accordion and piano. Al entertained professionally for over 50 years throughout the area with the popular trio, The Stylists. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of the West Albany Gun Club and the Watervliet Fish & Game Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jacqueline Martin Ciampi. He is the devoted father of Stephanie Lostritto (Dominic) of Colonie and Ben Ciampi (Jessica) of Altamont. He is the brother of Nina Hoyt (Charles) of Colonie and the late Antoinette Pettograsso and Frederick A. Ciampi Sr. He is the brother-in-law of Mary Ciampi of Colonie. He is the cherished grandfather of Michael Dominic and Erica Rose Lostritto of Colonie. Several nieces and nephews also survive. ALBANY Lawton L. Dickinson, formerly of Loudonville, died July 13, 2004 at the Teresian House after a long illness. He was born March 22, 1914, Syracuse, N.Y., son of the late Frank and Anna Mae Ingerson Dickinson. From 1941 to 1943, he was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department as a U.S. customs guard in N.Y. In 1944, Lawton started working for the GE Company, Syracuse, N.Y. and became manager of purchasing, retiring in 1964. From 1966 until his retirement in 1983, he was purchasing agent for NYS University College of Buffalo, NYS Department of Mental Hygiene and NYS Office of General Services, Albany. He was an active volunteer fireman, Clyde, N.Y., a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Albany and a frequent blood donor. A member of the former Aurania Club, Albany and Colonie Elks Lodge # 2192. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Marion Ralbovsky Dickinson, Loudonville; his daughters, Nancy (husband Robert) Sharp, Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Candace Ann Dickinson, Arvada, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Dickinson, Clifton Park, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Viola Dickinson, Syracuse; granddaughters, Candace Mae Dickinson, Penelope Sharp, Texas, Meriel Jimenez, Washington D.C. and Megin Jimenez, N.Y.; great-granddaughter, Amanda Bedford, Texas; also many nieces, nephews and friends. Alicia Lee Fisher-Yarter passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital. She was born in Albany and was the daughter of the late William P. and Cecilia E. Kelley Carrigan. She was a lifelong resident of Albany. Lee was employed with the New York State Division of Parole before her retirement. She was very involved with the CSEA Union where she served as the local union president for the Division of Parole. Lee was an active volunteer and officer of the Upper Western Little League at its onset. She was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan. Lee will be sorely missed at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Albany, which she attended faithfully every year. She was predeceased by her husbands, Edwin H. Fisher and William Yarter. Lee is the beloved mother of William E. Fisher, Patti Forget and the late Pamela Twiggy Fisher and Colleen Fisher. Fitzsimmons, Elizabeth BRUNSWICK Elizabeth Betty Fitzsimmons, 54, of Hoosick Road, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, following a long illness. Born in New York City, August 7, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Y. and Harriet (Murray) Johnstone Sr. and the wife of 28 years of the late John Fitzsimmons who died this past February. John and Betty were married January 24, 1976. Mrs. Fitzsimmons was a graduate of Sheepshead Bay High School and earned a bachelor of nursing degree from Long Island University. For many years, she was employed as a registered nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan until retiring in 1982. Prior to relocating to Brunswick with her late husband in 1986, Betty was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Brooklyn and sang in the church choir. More recently, she was a member of the Center Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. In her quiet time, she enjoyed the hobbies of reading, making crafts and, most importantly, caring for and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Fitzsimmons is survived by two loving daughters and their devoted husbands, Sandra L. and Richard Dunham Jr. of Brunswick and Jennifer M. and James R. Steen of Brant Lake; a brother, Thomas Y. Born in Brooklyn on August 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Ernest T. and Helen Hawrey Frank. Robert graduated from Brooklyn Tech and then went on to graduate from Cooper Union in Manhattan where he studied civil engineering. From 1943-1946, he served in the Army Air Corps as a sergeant in the 762nd Army Air Force Base unit. He spent two of those years (1944-46) in the European Theater of Operations. He moved to Albany in 1955 and was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of Christ the King Church in Guilderland. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne Margaret McLaughlin Frank, who died August 16, 2001. Survivors include his children, Jeanne (Tom) Passarelli of Voorheesville, Mary Clare (Doug) Springer of Guilderland, Patricia (John) Staerker of Glenmont and Robert W. Frank of Glenmont. He is also survived by five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne M. Frank Lynn. Glynn, Cathy M. MALTA Cathy M. Glynn, 57, of Hearthwood Dr., died peacefully with loved ones at her side after a brief illness. Cathy was born in New York City. She graduated in 1965 from Mother Cabrini High School. Cathy attended classes at Mount St. Vincent College in Riverdale and Manhattan College, subsequently in 1969 receiving a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Mount St. Vincent College. She married Allan Glynn on June 21, 1970. For about five years, Cathy was a peer counselor coordinator for the Center for Independence in Albany; She was a national Park Service Ranger at Saratoga National Historical Park; she was a member of Worldwide Marriage Encounter; a communicant, lector and CCD instructor for Corpus Christi Church. Cathy spent time in Okla. after her husband's military experience in Viet Nam. She lived on the south rim of the Grand Canyon with her daughter and husband while he was a park ranger there. They also lived on Liberty Island for five years. Cathy was a lifelong advocate for people with disabilities. Cathy was also a housewife and homemaker. Cathy is survived by her beloved husband Allan Glynn; her cherished daughter, Erin Glynn of Albany; and a devoted sister, Jacquelyn Birch of Niskayuna. Cathy was predeceased by her parents, John and Catherine Wolf and her brother, Robert A. Wolf. Vernon, N.Y. on July 17, 1917, he was the son of Edward A. Heffron and Mary J. O'Connor who were from County Mayo, Ireland. The family moved to Schenectady where Edward attended Nott Terrace High School. He married Marjorie Conover of Esperance on August 25, 1939 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady. He was retired from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Edward was a combat veteran of World War II, serving primarily with the 106th Division, U.S. Army Infantry in Europe. He and his loving wife were about to celebrate 65 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his daughter, Maureen A. Murphy. Survivors include his son, Dennis of Albany and his son-in-law, Brendan Murphy of Guilderland. Edward is also survived by his grandchildren, Deirdre (Jonathan) Zangwill of Philadelphia, Conor (Elizabeth) Murphy of Cooperstown, Brendan Murphy II of Guilderland and a great-grandson, Easton Thomas Murphy of Cooperstown. Martin Sr. (Pepper), age 82, of Albany and Pilot Knob, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 20, 2004. Mr. Martin was born in Albany to the late James F. and Mary Agnes Hoeflich Martin on October 20, 1921. He was educated in St. Vincent's School and graduated from Vincentian Institute. He attended Siena College and later enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He served during World War II as a technical sergeant in North Africa. Mr. Martin was the owner of John P. Martin Plumbing & Heating which he re-opened from his father's business. He was a member of the Albany Licensed Plumbers Association, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #7, Mechanical Contractors Association. He was the senior maintenance advisor at the Albany County Courthouse and served on the Albany County Democratic Committee as the 11th and 13th Ward Leader. Mr. Martin also served as an extraordinary minister at Sacred Heart Church, a member of Holy Names Society and Holy Cross Church. He belonged to Glens Falls Independent Hunting Club, Berlin Mountain Fish and Game Club, Pine Hills Association, Lake George Association, Pilot Knob Association and Pilot Knob Fire Department. He was a 4th degree past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Albany Lodge 49 B.P.O.E. and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Zwack Martin; his children, Carole (William) Conboy, Kathleen (John) Winters, John P. Martin Jr. (Sandy Craig), Janet (Ronee) Ristau, Mary (Ryck) Stark, Bridget (Richard) Paris and Raymond (Jennifer) Martin; grandchildren, William J. She was a seamstress for many years and worked for the Barbizon, Flahs and Stein Mart, retiring in 2000. Page, 74, died peacefully Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y. Mr. Page was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Joseph and Eva Page. He graduated from Altamont High School in 1948. Don worked in various positions at General Electric Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Page was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus and a devoted communicant of St. Lucy's Church in Altamont. He was a member of the Guilderland Elks Lodge and the Boyd Hilton VFW Post #7062 in Altamont an an active volunteer with St. Lucy's Food Pantry. He enjoyed participating in various bowling leagues and was an avid reader. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary Femia Page. Shepherd, Ruth PLEASANTDALE Ruth Reed Shepherd, 81, passed peacefully into the glory of Heaven on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. She was born and raised in New Brunswick, N.J. She met and married her sweetheart, her late, loving husband Don, in Syracuse, N.Y. while working for the New York Telephone Co. Don served in the Philippine War and made their home in North Syracuse. She stayed home with her two children, Susan and Scott. Scott was killed in a car accident at the age of 19. After raising the children, she was a disc jockey at a local radio station and later worked for a collection agency. She loved her family and taught them how to laugh and love life. In the last three years, she was close to her granddaughter, Holly and husband Rob Morris and their family as she was living in area nursing homes. Her daughter visited regularly from Canada. She was the devoted mother of Rev. Susan Chick and her husband Rev. Daniel D. Chick, ministering in Ottawa, Canada. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Darren R. Chick and wife Sara, Holly R. Morris and husband Rob, Amy L. Jones and husband Shawn; her great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Mackenzie, Madeline, Kaitlyn Brody, Noah, Gabriel, Madison, Samantha, Olivia and the late Ethan (an Angel in Heaven). Joseph lived in Albany and then Rensselaer County for most of his life until living in Canajoharie for the past seven years. He was employed at one time as a taxi driver for Yellow Cab in Albany. Joseph loved the sea, horses and music, especially Neil Diamond. REXFORD Martha L. Wright, 90, of Coburg Village, died on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a brief illness. She was born on July 9, 1914 in New York City, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late David E. and Dinah Lynn. She was the beloved wife of the late William E. Wright who died in 1978. Mrs. Wright was a graduate of Bogota High School and Mont Clair State Teachers College in N.J. where she received her teaching degree in mathematics. As a mathematician, she took pleasure in working with figures and calculations throughout her entire life. She was employed as a math teacher at the Westwood High School in N.J. for 14 years. The greatest joy in her life was her family, whether it was seeing them or being in touch with them. She was the devoted mother of William L. Wright of Davenport, N.Y.; David A. (Laura) Wright of Lakeville, Conn. and Martha Patsy (David) Dochat-Lynch of Mechanicville, N.Y.; sister of the late David Lynn and Henry Lynn; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive her.
