Joseph Henry Abair, 84, of Bokeelia died July 27, 2004 in Cape Coral, Fla. He was born in Port Henry, N.Y. on February 18, 1920, one of four children of Frederick Abair and Anna Kingdollar Abair. A resident of Bokeelia for 20 years, he moved from Ballston Lake, N.Y. A veteran of World War II, he served five years in the Signal Corp. He spent 39 months in New Guinea as a Sgt. Major of a supply depot. After service he joined the New York Telephone Co. retiring after 39 years ending his career in Human Resources. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Parke Abair; his son, Jonathan F. (Barbara) Abair of Troy, N.Y. He was preceded in death by a son, James J. (Carol) Abair and a daughter, Judith Ann MacDonald (John E.) and three brothers. He had seven grandchildren, Amy Labosky (Timothy), Melissa Andrejko (Aric), Sarah Abair, John E. MacDonald IV (Amy), Erik, Michael and Kayla Abair. Also five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Jessie (Alan) Browne, Carol Joy Parke and Yvonne Parke. Alber, Bill, 74, of Troy died July 28, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital after a short illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Rose Link Alber. He was a graduate of Troy High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a staff sergeant where he received airplane and engine mechanic training. Mr Alber was employed at Troy Belting and Supply Co. as a salesman and later was employed by Fort Orange Paper Co. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and music. He was a member of the Troy Elks. He was the brother of Florence Alber Daly of Troy and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Norman L. Alber. The funeral will be on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Ave. at Parkview Ct., Troy and at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Troy where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Theresa (Hudson) Bargfeldt, 78, of Sturdy Rd., formerly of Schenectady, and Largo, Fla. died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Edna Hudson and a graduate of Draper High School and Albany Business College. For more than 42 years, she worked for the General Electric Company, retiring in 1986 from the financial department. Theresa was a member of the GE Woman's Club, the Quarter Century Club, St. Elizabeth's Church in Valparaiso, a former member of St. Catherine's Church in Clearwater, Fla. and Immaculate Conception Church. Theresa was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Hudson Jr. and a nephew, Mark Hudson. Survivors include her husband, Leslie W. Bargfeldt whom she married on February 2, 1996; three nieces, Michele Sciortino and husband John of Rochester, N.Y., Maureen McDaniel and husband David of Fla. and Jill Hudson of W. Fulton, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hudson of Rochester and great-nieces and great-nephew, Ismay Hudson, Andrea Sciortino and Matthew Hudson. Elizabeth Betty Bates, 81, of Lake Wales, Fla., died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla. Born May 7, 1923 in East Nassau, N.Y., she moved to Lake Wales from West Palm Beach in 1990. She was a retired secretary and treasurer for 35 years at Hoag's Corners Lumber Company in Hoag's Corners, N.Y. During World War II, she was a defense worker for the Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, N.Y. She was a founding member of Hoag's Corners Volunteer Ambulance Assoc. and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was secretary to the supervisor of the Town of Nassau and she enjoyed cooking, gardening and animals. She is survived by her husband Fred Bates of Lake Wales, Fla.; daughter, Patricia M. Bates of Lake Worth, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brooks was employed as a secretary and stenographer for General Electric and HS Barney Department Store. She was predeceased by her husbands, Kenneth Brooks and Melvin F. Regnier. Survivors include her sons, Richard (and the late Shirley) Regnier Sr. of Schenectady, Douglas C. Bulson, Margaret TROY Margaret (Babe) Bulson, 77, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital with her loving family at her side. Margaret was born on April 30, 1927 in Troy to the late Francis E. and Veronica Beaudoin Halligan. She was predeceased by her beloved stepmother, Margaret Herman Halligan. Margaret graduated from St. Mary's School and Catholic Central High School, both in Troy. She was an accountant for Sears and Roebuck in Colonie for several years before retiring in the early 1990s. Margaret loved the outdoors and enjoyed doing crosswords. Her vision of Life was incredible. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Blessed Sacrament School and Church in Albany. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Bulson Sr.; her sons, William J. (Billy) Bulson Jr. and R. Donald Bulson; her sister, Myra Byrnes; her brothers, Francis and Henry Halligan. Margaret is the beloved mother of Jay Bulson and his wife Sherry of Lubbock, Texas, Judy A. Hadsell and her husband Lawrence of Newport News, Va., Donna M. Killea-Rodriguez of Austin, Texas, D. Cameron, age 63, a lifelong Coxsackie resident, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Community Hospice of Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. Carol was born on December 25, 1940 in Catskill, the daughter of Mildred Mead and the late Daniel Cameron. She was a clerk for 35 years in the New York State Department of Civil Service, retiring in 1995. She was a 1960 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School. Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church of Coxsackie and a member and chaplain of the Kaksakee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her mother, Mildred Cameron of Coxsackie; her cousins, Judith Humphries, Keith Humphries, both of Dunmallen, Fla., Patty Lederman of Schenectady, Virginia and Paul Moran of Scotia, Arlene Beck, Mary Friello, both of Duanesburg, and Kathy Richel. Carrier, Victor COHOES Victor Carrier, 73, of Ontario St. died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital after a long illness. Born in Quebec, Canada he was son of the late Joseph and Rose Larochelle Carrier. He became a U.S. Citizen after serving in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Paratrooper Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C. from 1954 to 1956. He moved to Cohoes in 1957 and was employed at Norton Co. in Watervliet for 36 years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Edith Mae Cummings Carrier. They had renewed their vows on June 27, 2003. He is the father of Carolyn Jubert of Cohoes and Richard Carrier and his wife Melissa of Ballston Lake; brother of Rosario, Raymond, Emile and Claude Carrier, Claire Picotin, Mary Cote' all of Canada and the late Hermel Carrier. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Justin and Rachel Victoria; his cousins, Bert and Doris Gagnon of Cohoes as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Corratti, Lisa Marie RENSSELAER Lisa Marie Corratti of Rensselaer, N.Y. died at St. Peter's Hospital Tuesday morning, July 27, 2004 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. She was the beloved daughter of Patricia M. Briggs of East Greenbush, N.Y. and New Port Richey, Fla. and the loving sister of Joseph E. Vriale of Cairo, N.Y., who were at her side when God called her home. Born on February 19, 1966, Lisa grew up in Greene County, living on Sandy Plains Road in South Cairo. She attended Cairo Durham Central School prior to moving to Rensselaer County where she attended Hudson Valley Community College. In 1984, she was first employed as a student intern with the New York State Department of Correctional Services at their training academy on New Scotland Avenue and later became a full-time employee for over eight years. In 1995, she joined the New York State Bill Drafting Commission, working in their purchasing department as a clerk until her illness forced her disability in November of 2003. Lisa was a very gregarious person who always had a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eye. She loved traveling, especially to Florida, where she had family and friends or to visit Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Her maternal grandparents, Ernest and Emily Briggs of South Cairo, N.Y. and her paternal grandparents, Frank and Viola Corratti, predecease her. In addition to her mother and brother, Lisa is also survived by a great aunt, Bernadine Quinn of Bayshore, Long Island; her uncles, Ernest Briggs of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Briggs of Palm Springs, Calif., Edward Briggs of South Cairo, N.Y.; her aunt, Maureen Ricci of Freehold, N.Y.; numerous cousins and other family members. Lisa is also survived by her father, Frank Corratti Jr. of Cairo, N.Y., his sister, Rose Law, and his daughter, Laura Corratti, both of Catskill, N.Y. The family would like to thank Dr. Duncan Savage of St. Peter's Cancer Care Center, his associates and his staff for their compassionate efforts in helping Lisa battle cancer during her long struggle. Downs, 84, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's. He was the brother of Joann Downs Rowland and the late Joseph Downs. He was the uncle of Maureen Rowland and Sheela A. Rowland. He was the great-uncle of Erin Barber and Kathleen Barber. Born in Sayre, Pa., he was the son of the late Agnes Lucy Guinane and Richard Joseph Downs. Fr. Downs moved to Albany in 1930 and graduated from Blessed Sacrament School, Christian Brothers Academy, Siena College and St. Bernard's Seminary, Rochester, N.Y. On December 22, 1945, he was the first priest ordained by Bishop William A. Scully. As a priest of the Albany Diocese, he served as an assistant at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Chaplin Canoness of St. Augustine. He then attended the Catholic University Graduate School in Washington, DC, earning a master's degree in social services. Fr. Downs was the director of Camp Scully, assistant at St. Michael's Church in Troy, assistant diocesan director of Catholic Charities, director of Troy office of Catholic Charities, administrator of St. Michael's Church in Troy, director of the Albany office of Catholic Charities, diocesan spiritual director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. He also served as secretary to the bishop for health and social services, vicar of Albany County and the dean of priests to the Albany area. Fr. Downs was the secretary treasurer of St. Vincent's Child Care Center, Brady Maternity Hospital and St. Catherine's Home for Children. He was the weekend assistant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia and St. Francis De Sales in Loudonville. Fr. Downs was the spiritual director of the Catholic Daughters of the Albany area, founder and first spiritual director of the Ladies of Charity and the diocesan spiritual director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Fr. Downs was the beloved pastor of Holy Cross Church from 1974 until his retirement in 1994. Fr. Downs was also involved in a great many community activities. He was on Governor Harriman's Council on Juvenile Delinquency, a member of North East Committee on Hospitals and Nursing Homes and involved with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the Capital District Committee on Human Rights. Fr. Downs was on the Council of Community of Services and sat on the board of directors of Albany County Opportunity Incorporated, the Albany Housing Authority Board and the New York State Catholic Conference. He was the chairman standing of the National Conference of Catholic Charities and on the board of National Social Welfare Assembly. Fr. Downs was on the National Conference of Catholic Charities for the North East, the first director of Diocese Campaign for Human Development, on the ethics committee of New York State Health Department and on the board of Albany Senior Citizens. During his time with Catholic Charities, the Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home, the Teresian House, Our Lady of Hope Residence and the Community Maternity Services Building were all constructed. Fr. Downs was a member of Monsignor Michael J. Looney Assembly, Knights of Columbus, the University Club and Albany Elks Lodge #49. He was a booster for the Boston Red Sox and a chaplin for extra points to Coach Duffy Dougherty at Michigan State University. Reception of the Body will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, Albany. Priests, relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m., a Parish Mass will be celebrated. Duke, Paul SARATOGA SPRINGS - Paul Duke, 63, of Louden Road, Saratoga Springs, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by his family, after fighting a valiant battle with lung cancer. A lifelong area resident, Paul was born in Albany. He was the son of the late Theodore Duke and the late Margaret (Welch) Duke. Paul was a graduate of Phillip Schuyler High School in Albany and he went on to join the U.S. Army (Private, First Class) where he served in Korea and was a P.O.W. Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church of Saratoga Springs. He served as cub master of Cub Scout Pack #24 in Wilton for several years, and he also served as a volunteer to Boy Scout Troop #24. Paul also volunteered for many years with the Saratoga Emergency Corps. Paul was a member of Local 1262 of the UFCW for nearly 15 years. For the last eleven years, Paul was a devoted staff member at Living Resources, an organization dedicated to providing life enhancing services to individuals with disabilities. Paul was a special, kind and friendly person who will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, his co-workers, his clients and his dog Buckley. Paul's generosity continues even after his death as he has donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the Albany Medical College. Paul is survived by his children, Catherine Duke of Westbury, Long Island, Thomas Duke of Saratoga Springs and Debra Duke of Latham; as well as by his sisters, Elizabeth and Roberta. He was born in Watervliet and was the son of the late George H. and Gertrude H. Cummings Frederick. George was a graduate of Vencentian Institute. Mr. Frederick was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Aaron Ward. Upon completion of his military service, he attended Siena College. He worked at Wedekind Motors for many years and for PepsiCo as the corporate real estate representative before his retirement. Upon retiring, George was currently working as a code enforcement officer for the Village of Colonie. He was a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 and the American Legion Post #471. For the past seven years, George also volunteered as an ambassador at the Albany International Airport. Mr. Frederick enjoyed traveling, boating and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved and respected by all of those who knew him. George is the beloved husband of 55 years to Rosemary E. Frederick. He is the devoted father of Mary Christina Flynn and Teresa Kucskar and her husband Paul, all of Ballston Lake, Timothy P. Frederick and his wife Kimberly of Knox, Terrence M. Frederick of Clifton Park and Daniel J. Frederick of Vail, Colo. He is the brother of Robert Frederick of Ga. and Paul Frederick of Lake George. He is the cherished grandfather of J.J., Amanda, Courtney, Timothy, Marisa, Ashley and Brandon. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Hansen, 45, a longtime resident of Ford Road, entered into heavenly rest Monday, July 26, 2004, surrounded by his loving family at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a long illness. Born in Cherry Point, N.C., October 24, 1958, Dave was the son of Edward C. and Rosemarie D. Hansen of Raymertown and the devoted husband of 25 years of Barbara L. (Campbell) Hansen, also of Raymertown. Dave and Barb were married July 14, 1979. Dave was a graduate of Tamarac High School, Class of 1976, and attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. For over 24 years, Dave was employed at the former Garden Way, Inc. in Troy. He worked his way from a quality assurance specialist, field-testing products made at the factory in 1977, to project manager and sr. engineering analyst in 1989. More recently, he was part of the management transition team following the company's sale to MTD Products, Inc. in 2001. In 2002, Dave was hired by Murray Co., Inc. as a product implementation engineering consultant and, in October of 2003 until present, was employed by MTI Micro Fuel Systems in Albany as a quality assurance engineer. Dave has been a member of the Raymertown Volunteer Fire Company since 1978 and has held every line officer position including that of fire chief from 1986-1994. He was a member of the board of fire commissioners for the Raymertown Fire District and was the current board chairman. Under his supervision, more than $100,000 in grant monies were allocated to the district for equipment and gear to modernize the fire company. He was a former deputy fire co-coordinator for Rensselaer County Emergency Services. An outdoorsman who enjoyed the peace and quiet of bird watching and gardening, Dave liked to spend his time visiting with and cooking for his family. He was a communicant of St. George Roman Catholic Church in Pittstown and a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, serving as the local chairperson, training coordinator, region secretary and was a national member. In addition to his wife and parents, Dave is survived by three children, Deanna M. Hansen, David M. Hansen and Heather L. Hansen, all of Raymertown; two brothers, Eric E. She married Martin O'Malley and they moved to Cambridge where they lived for 40 years. Mary worked as a stenographer for the William Lyttle Insurance Agency in Greenwich. After the death of her husband, she moved to the Capital District and lived in various Catholic Apartments and assisted living homes, such as the Bishop Broderick Apartments and the Teresian House. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich, St. Patrick's Church in Cambridge, Saint Clare's Church in Colonie and the Teresian House in Albany. Mary touched the lives of many people over the past 102 years. She was very passionate about her faith and loved all people and things that brought happiness, kindness and love to this world. Sandra was a member of the Junior League of Albany and Albany Country Club where she took pleasure playing golf. She also enjoyed summer vacations at the family's historic home on Nantucket. Sandy will be remembered as a gracious hostess. Her homes were always a gathering place for family and friends. Sandra is survived by her husband, Fred Weber of Delmar whom she married in 1954. Wood Jr., John Gibson ROTTERDAM John Gibson Wood, Jr., 73, of White Birch Ct. died Monday July 26, 2004 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, he was a 1948 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and attended Union College. John was an electrical designer for the General Electric Company and a graduate of the G.E. Draftsman Course. He retired in 1996 after 45 years of service. A Korean War Navy Veteran, he served on the U.S.S. Chilton as an electronics technician, John was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club, G.E. Draftsman Association, RTTY Ham Radio Club. He was an avid reader who loved electronics, photography, gardening and landscaping. John was also a former Little League coach and Sunday school teacher. He is the beloved husband for 52 years of Grace I. (Becker) Wood; the cherished father of Dr. John G. Wood, III and wife Laurie June of Shawnee, Kan., James F. Wood and wife Joanne of Glenville, Charles W. Wood and wife Patricia of Schenectady and Christine G. Languedoc and husband Robert of New Lebanon, Conn., beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren; Jacquelyn, Shawna, Kristen, Michael, Geneva, Grace, and Aidan. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 12 noon at Evergreen Memorial Park, Central Avenue, Colonie, N.Y. to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. There will be no calling hours by request but people are invited to stop by the family's home between 2 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 31.
