TROY William C. Alber, Bill, 74, of Troy died July 28, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital after a short illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Rose Link Alber. He was a graduate of Troy High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a staff sergeant where he received airplane and engine mechanic training. Mr Alber was employed at Troy Belting and Supply Co. as a salesman and later was employed by Fort Orange Paper Co. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and music. He was a member of the Troy Elks. He was the brother of Florence Alber Daly of Troy and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Norman L. Alber. The funeral will be on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Daniel D. Bulson, Margaret TROY Margaret (Babe) Bulson, 77, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital with her loving family at her side. Margaret was born on April 30, 1927 in Troy to the late Francis E. and Veronica Beaudoin Halligan. She was predeceased by her beloved stepmother, Margaret Herman Halligan. Margaret graduated from St. Mary's School and Catholic Central High School, both in Troy. She was an accountant for Sears and Roebuck in Colonie for several years before retiring in the early 1990s. Margaret loved the outdoors and enjoyed doing crosswords. Her vision of Life was incredible. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Blessed Sacrament School and Church in Albany. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Bulson Sr.; her sons, William J. (Billy) Bulson Jr. and R. Donald Bulson; her sister, Myra Byrnes; her brothers, Francis and Henry Halligan. Margaret is the beloved mother of Jay Bulson and his wife Sherry of Lubbock, Texas, Judy A. Hadsell and her husband Lawrence of Newport News, Va., Donna M. Killea-Rodriguez of Austin, Texas, D. Born in Kingston, N.Y., he was the son of the late Floyd and Shirley Ellsworth Carson. Mr. Carson was a Marine Corps veteran and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Albany for many years. Survivors include his wife Sadie L. Corratti, Lisa Marie RENSSELAER Lisa Marie Corratti of Rensselaer, N.Y. died at St. Peter's Hospital Tuesday morning, July 27, 2004 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. She was the beloved daughter of Patricia M. Briggs of East Greenbush, N.Y. and New Port Richey, Fla. and the loving sister of Joseph E. Vriale of Cairo, N.Y., who were at her side when God called her home. Born on February 19, 1966, Lisa grew up in Greene County, living on Sandy Plains Road in South Cairo. She attended Cairo Durham Central School prior to moving to Rensselaer County where she attended Hudson Valley Community College. In 1984, she was first employed as a student intern with the New York State Department of Correctional Services at their training academy on New Scotland Avenue and later became a full-time employee for over eight years. In 1995, she joined the New York State Bill Drafting Commission, working in their purchasing department as a clerk until her illness forced her disability in November of 2003. Lisa was a very gregarious person who always had a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eye. She loved traveling, especially to Florida, where she had family and friends or to visit Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Her maternal grandparents, Ernest and Emily Briggs of South Cairo, N.Y. and her paternal grandparents, Frank and Viola Corratti, predecease her. In addition to her mother and brother, Lisa is also survived by a great aunt, Bernadine Quinn of Bayshore, Long Island; her uncles, Ernest Briggs of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Briggs of Palm Springs, Calif., Edward Briggs of South Cairo, N.Y.; her aunt, Maureen Ricci of Freehold, N.Y.; numerous cousins and other family members. Lisa is also survived by her father, Frank Corratti Jr. of Cairo, N.Y., his sister, Rose Law, and his daughter, Laura Corratti, both of Catskill, N.Y. ROTTERDAM Joan E. Dombrowski, 71, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at St. Clare's Hospital, Schenectady. She grew up in Albany, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Jerry. They raised their family in Sidney, N.Y. and retired to Jacksonville, Fla. 20 years ago. Joan was a very friendly and loving person. Anyone who ever met her recognized her caring spirit and commented her on her beautiful smile and bright blue eyes. She will be missed by many. Joan was the wife of the late Jerome (Jerry) Dombrowski and is survived by three sons and a daughter, Dave Dombrowski of Raleigh, N.C., Steve (Barbara) Dombrowski of Sidney, N.Y., Kathy (Ed) Donadio of Schenectady and Chris (Fran) Dombrowski of Gray, Maine. She is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and was predeceased by a granddaughter. Downs, 84, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's. He was the brother of Joann Downs Rowland and the late Joseph Downs. He was the uncle of Maureen Rowland and Sheela A. Rowland. He was the great-uncle of Erin Barber and Kathleen Barber. Born in Sayre, Pa., he was the son of the late Agnes Lucy Guinane and Richard Joseph Downs. Fr. Downs moved to Albany in 1930 and graduated from Blessed Sacrament School, Christian Brothers Academy, Siena College and St. Bernard's Seminary, Rochester, N.Y. On December 22, 1945, he was the first priest ordained by Bishop William A. Scully. As a priest of the Albany Diocese, he served as an assistant at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the Chaplin Canoness of St. Augustine. He then attended the Catholic University Graduate School in Washington, DC, earning a master's degree in social services. Fr. Downs was the director of Camp Scully, assistant at St. Michael's Church in Troy, assistant diocesan director of Catholic Charities, director of Troy office of Catholic Charities, administrator of St. Michael's Church in Troy, director of the Albany office of Catholic Charities, diocesan spiritual director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. He also served as secretary to the bishop for health and social services, vicar of Albany County and the dean of priests to the Albany area. Fr. Downs was the secretary treasurer of St. Vincent's Child Care Center, Brady Maternity Hospital and St. Catherine's Home for Children. He was the weekend assistant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia and St. Francis De Sales in Loudonville. Fr. Downs was the spiritual director of the Catholic Daughters of the Albany area, founder and first spiritual director of the Ladies of Charity and the diocesan spiritual director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Fr. Downs was the beloved pastor of Holy Cross Church from 1974 until his retirement in 1994. Fr. Downs was also involved in a great many community activities. He was on Governor Harriman's Council on Juvenile Delinquency, a member of North East Committee on Hospitals and Nursing Homes and involved with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the Capital District Committee on Human Rights. Fr. Downs was on the Council of Community of Services and sat on the board of directors of Albany County Opportunity Incorporated, the Albany Housing Authority Board and the New York State Catholic Conference. He was the chairman standing of the National Conference of Catholic Charities and on the board of National Social Welfare Assembly. Fr. Downs was on the National Conference of Catholic Charities for the North East, the first director of Diocese Campaign for Human Development, on the ethics committee of New York State Health Department and on the board of Albany Senior Citizens. During his time with Catholic Charities, the Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home, the Teresian House, Our Lady of Hope Residence and the Community Maternity Services Building were all constructed. Fr. Downs was a member of Monsignor Michael J. Looney Assembly, Knights of Columbus, the University Club and Albany Elks Lodge #49. He was a booster for the Boston Red Sox and a chaplin for extra points to Coach Duffy Dougherty at Michigan State University. Reception of the Body will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, Albany. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late George and Sophie Tokarz Guzy and wife of the late Michael Mlinarik. Felecia was a lifelong resident of Cohoes and received her education in the Cohoes School System. She was a seamstress for 44 years, retiring in 1969 with Cluet and Peabody. She was a past member of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) and a former member of the Cohoes Senior Citizens Tuesday afternoon Bowling League. Felecia was a communicate of St. Michael's Parish in Cohoes and a member of the Ladies Rosary Society. Morales, Pedro (Pete) BALLSTON SPA Pedro (Pete) Morales died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 28, 2004 at Maplewood Manor Nursing home after a long illness. He was born in New York City and died at the age 73. Pete was a much loved member of the community of Fairfield, Calif., where he lived for many years. He moved to this area five years ago. He retired from the military after over 20 years of service, and worked in civil service for over ten years. Pete was past master of Suisun Lodge #55, Masonic Temple, in Fairfield, Calif., as well as a member of Scottish rite. He was an avid volunteer for the Red Cross, the Diabetes Society, and countless other charities. Pete was a giving, kind and generous friend to all. Most of all, he was the best husband, father, and grandfather a family could ever have asked for. He is survived by his wife, Esther Morales of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; daughters, Dorothy Diaz of San Diego and her husband Alberto and Dona Frank of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Joseph Morales of Ballston Spa, and his wife Lani, Jillian Gomez of San Diego and her husband Jose, and Olivia Scibelli, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. A resident of Nashua since 1988, she had resided in Hudson Falls, N.Y. during her youth and for many years wintered in Florida and spent summers in New York. She was wife of the Curtis H. Clay, who died in 1955 and Jay H. Smith, who died in 1970. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved cooking and collecting recipes. Educated in Hudson Falls, N.Y., Mrs. Smith was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. She was a former communicant of St. Michael's Church in Troy, N.Y. and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Nashua. Members of her family include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael C. Clay of Labelle, Fla. and Jerry A. and Joyce Clay of Cape Coral, Fla.; a daughter, Sonya A. Clay of Nashua, with whom she has resided since 1970; five grandchildren, Shannon Brabazon of Fort Myers, Fla., Curtis J. Hank was the owner and operator of Track and Turf Supply in Poestenkill for the past 25 years. Hank spent his entire life involved in the horse world. He owned and rode open jumpers. His dedication to the equine world provided many years of service and mentoring to area equestrians and their mounts. He was a member of the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce. Survivors in addition to his mother include his sister, Victoria Stanley Lachaga and husband Philip of Ringoes, N.J.; his niece and goddaughter, Kristina Lachaga and several cousins. Thomas, of County Route 71, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at his home. He was 56. Born on August 4, 1947 in Saratoga Springs, he was a life long area resident and son of Melvin Thomas and the late Mildred (Winans) Thomas. Russell was a 1966 graduate of Schuylerville Central Schools and went on to SUNY Cobleskill, graduating in 1968. He then enrolled in the College of Emporia in Emporia, Kan. and graduated in 1973 with a bachelor of arts degree in history. Russell worked at General Electric Co. on River Road in Waterford since 1977 and recently retired from there. He was a member of the Quaker Springs Volunteer Fire Department since 1968 and held many offices during that time. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and also liked to read. In addition to his father of Stillwater, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Frolish) Thomas of Stillwater; his children, David R. Thomas, Sarah A. Thomas and DaVon R. Thomas, all of Stillwater; his sister and brothers, Elizabeth Swan and her husband, William of Saugerties, William Thomas and his wife Bonnie of Queensbury, Richard Thomas and his wife Laura of Washington DC and Dr. Christopher Thomas and his wife Francoise of Wilton. Consetta Connie Vardine, 91, formerly of Schenectady, passed on peacefully on July 27, 2004 at Bon Secour Maria Manor, St. Petersburg, Fla. Born and educated in Schenectady, she was a daughter of the late Conchetta Barbera and Franco Barbera. Beloved wife of the late John J. Vardine who passed away in 1973. Connie and her husband owned and operated Central Brown Transportation of Schenectady for over 50 years. She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church until retiring to Fla. and a member of the Sons of Italy Cornelia Lodge, Schenectady. After retiring, Connie volunteered much of her time at the Dominican Retreat House. In later years, she worked with the elderly at the Bon Secour Maria Manor in St. Petersburg where, under Angel Care, she passed away. Connie is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara (Charles) Mamone of Troy, N.Y.; her loving son, Vincent (Sandra) Vardine of Schenectady; eight loving grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a very dear and loving family friend, Mary Spikes of St. Petersburg. Sandra was the daughter of the late Alexander and Celia Converse-Adamovitch. She was born on November 1, 1929 in Binghamton, N.Y. and grew up in Oneonta. Sandra graduated from Hartwick College in 1952 and then moved to Delmar where she was employed by the New York Telephone Company. She later worked at Harry Brown Jewelers in Delmar and the Village Shop at the Delaware Plaze, Delmar. Sandra was a member of the Junior League of Albany and Albany Country Club where she took pleasure playing golf. She also enjoyed summer vacations at the family's historic home on Nantucket. Sandy will be remembered as a gracious hostess. Her homes were always a gathering place for family and friends. Sandra is survived by her husband, Fred Weber of Delmar whom she married in 1954. She is also survived by her three daughters, Susan Adamski of St. Maarten, N.A., Kendra Weber of Glenmont and Amy Weber of Los Angeles, Calif. She was a devoted niece of the late Ruth A. Paige whom she entertained every Sunday evening until her death in 1996. Wood Jr., John Gibson ROTTERDAM John Gibson Wood, Jr., 73, of White Birch Ct. died Monday July 26, 2004 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, he was a 1948 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and attended Union College. John was an electrical designer for the General Electric Company and a graduate of the G.E. Draftsman Course. He retired in 1996 after 45 years of service. A Korean War Navy Veteran, he served on the U.S.S. Chilton as an electronics technician, John was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club, G.E. Draftsman Association, RTTY Ham Radio Club. He was an avid reader who loved electronics, photography, gardening and landscaping. John was also a former Little League coach and Sunday school teacher. He is the beloved husband for 52 years of Grace I. (Becker) Wood; the cherished father of Dr. John G. Wood, III and wife Laurie June of Shawnee, Kan., James F. Wood and wife Joanne of Glenville, Charles W. Wood and wife Patricia of Schenectady and Christine G. Languedoc and husband Robert of New Lebanon, Conn., beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren; Jacquelyn, Shawna, Kristen, Michael, Geneva, Grace, and Aidan.
