Mrs. Patricia Mary Hurley Baxter, age 74, of Monroe, North Carolina, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Baxter was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on February 19, 1930 a daughter of the late Bartholomew Hurley and Ada Vancura Hurley. She was a purchasing agent for Sikorsky Aircraft. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Clyde Baxter and a brother, Bill Hurley. Born in Roxbury, N.Y., Emma was the daughter of the late Albert and Nora Wiedemann and the wife of the late Melvin F. Borst who died in 1987. A housewife, she was the mother of five children, Ronald M. Borst and his wife, the late Melvina Borst of Schenectady, Robert A. Borst of Duanesburg, Betty J. Wildermuth and her husband the late Harry Wildermuth of Rotterdam, Terry L. Mickey and husband Harry Mickey of Guilderland and the late Helen L. Jump and her husband the late Richard Jump; two brothers, Julian Wiedemann of Roxbury, N.Y and Albert Wiedemann of Fla. and a sister, Martha Borst of Guilderland; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. SCHENECTADY Arthur E. Broady, 91, of Central Avenue, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Born January 16, 1913 in Lawton, Okla., he was the son of the late Victor F. and Catherine O'Malley Broady. Arthur lived in the community since the age of four (87 years). Educated at Schenectady High School, he worked for Sealtest Dairy for over 30 years as a milkman and for Niskayuna High School as grounds maintenance. He retired from Niskayuna High School in 1983. He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church since the age of nine, a former member of Edison Golf Club, a 1944 Schenectady County Amateur Golf Champ and Civilian Conservation Corp. from 1932 to 1934. An avid bowler, he started his own Classic League in Scotia. Arthur is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Peg) LaPerriere Broady, whom he married on September 23, 1977. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Mortka Broady and his son, Michael Broady. She was born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on June 4, 1914, the daughter of the late Kostantas and Kazimiera Stanonis Racis. She worked for Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills in Amsterdam, N.Y. She moved to Albany in 1954 and worked for Cosimos Restaurant for over 20 years. After retiring, she worked part time for the NYS Tax Department. She was active in the Albany County Democratic Party and Albany Senior Citizens. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity to everyone she met and for her special love for children and animals. She is survived by her son, Bruce J. (Roslyn) Christie of Albany, N.Y.; her daughters, Carol A. (William) Foster of Germantown, N.Y., and Gloria R. She started her career in Burns Pharmacy in Rensselaer. She was the wife of 37 years of George M. George; loving sister of Marion J. She was born in Utica, and was the daughter of the late William and Jennie O'Brien Miller. She moved to Albany in 1946 and then to Guilderland in 1952 where she resided until 1992 when she moved to Colonie. Mrs. Meyl was a homemaker most of her life. Jane's life work revolved around people, she was fast to make friends and took great pride in keeping them. Mrs. Meyl was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and especially enjoyed spending time with them. Mrs. Meyl was the beloved wife of the late George N. Meyl. She is the devoted mother of Michael Meyl of Orange Park, Fla., Linda Murphy and her husband Jack of Colonie, William Meyl and his wife Mary of Sioux City, Iowa and Brian Meyl and his wife Diane Meyl Ehmann of Albany. He was born May 15, 1919 in Schenectady, the son of the late James and Laura Komp Murray. He was a graduate of Ballston Spa High School. Mr. Murray was a journalist early in his career, he was a reporter for the Gazette and Union Star and received recognition for his coverage of the Republican National Convention in 1948. He began his government service late in the 1940s and held various staff positions under New York State Governor, Thomas Dewey, including press secretary. He also worked with Assembly Speaker, Oswald Heck and Lieutenant Governor Moore. In 1960s, he oversaw the construction of the four year college within the New York State University and served as acting chancellor of the New York State University for several years. He was also appointed to serve on various state commissions by Governor Nelson Rockerfeller. During the 1970s he worked on the expansion of the New York State Mental Hygiene facilities and served in various senior positions within that department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and conservationist. He was a member of the Edison Club, South Beach Assoc. and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He is survived by his wife, Antoinette Anne Korowajczyk Murray, whom he was married to for 63 years. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. RENSSELAER Alfred J. Myers Sr. went home to heaven peacefully at home July 28, 2004 after a long illness surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born June 7, 1920 to the late Alfred and Edna Myers of Albany, N.Y. Beloved husband of 57 years to Margaret M. (Kelley) Myers. Mr. Myers served his country in the Army from 1942-1945 and served in the European Theater and World War II. Mr. Myers received many Medals of Honor. He was an avid lover of Little League Baseball, both at the South End Little League in Albany and Rensselaer Little League. He coached and managed as well and could be seen at many games, watching his children and grandchildren proudly play his favorite sport. He was known and will always be remembered as Big Al. Mr. Myers was employed at the former Williams Press and Hamilton News and carried on with his sons and grandsons driving them around Rensselaer delivering newspapers to many customers for many years for the Troy Record. Mr. Myers was always on the go and enjoyed going to the Country Kitchen Thrift Store to pick up donated bread and baked goods and delivered them to the many children at Vanderheyden Halls Group Homes and Community Residences. He leaves behind to cherish his memories along with his beloved wife, his children, Alfred J. (Vanessa) Myers Jr. of Texas, Edward (Linda) Myers of Rensselaer, Edna Vandenburgh of Rensselaer, Margaret (Ed) Gilchrist of Fla., Keith Myers Sr. of N.H., Dean Myers of Rensselaer, Lawrence (Bea) Myers of Guilderland, Linda Beckwith of West Sand Lake, Douglas Myers of Albany, Kyle (Nicole) Myers of Rensselaer and Michael Myers of Utica. Also survived by 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all of which were the apples of his eye and always drew a smile from Papa. Stadel, Judith Anne CLIFTON PARK Judith Anne Stadel, 60, of Evergreen Terrace and former Grand Island, N.Y. and Stillwater, Okla. resident, died suddenly on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after being stricken at her residence. She was born on May 17, 1944 in Binghamton, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late Berwyn and Frances Merrill Benedict. She was a graduate of Endicott High School and Broome Community College. Judy had been a legal secretary for Edward L. Crawford, Esq. in Binghamton. She had also been a secretary to the Academic Council of the President's Office at Oklahoma State University and was currently the office manager of Graduate, Adult and Continuing Education at the College of St. Rose in Albany. Judy's special interests were many. She enjoyed family gatherings and family games. She was involved with various youth activities in several communities including Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, football and baseball. Judy was always assisting her husband with various youth activities. She was a large part in providing the annual family Christmas light display. She also enjoyed gardening, camping, hiking in the Adirondacks, a day at the beach, playing with grandchildren and various other activities towards improving quality of life for others. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Binghamton. She was the wife of David W. Stadel to whom she married on November 25, 1964. She was the mother of Brenda (Michael) Gibbs of Malta, John (Tracy) Stadel of Malta, Debra (Christopher) Wilper of Ithaca, Rebecca Stadel of Albany and Andrew Stadel of Clifton Park. She is the sister of James Benedict of Binghamton, N.Y. and the grandmother of Megan Ann Stadel and Sarah Rose Gibbs. She is also survived by two nephews. Funeral will be held Monday at 12 noon from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park with the Rev. William Hinrichs, Rector of St. George's Episcopal Church in Clifton Park officiating. A calling hour will be from 11-12 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Published in the Albany Times Union on 7/31/2004. Tansey, John E. TROY John E. Tansey, 67, of Troy, entered into eternal rest on July 28, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Jewet Tansey. An honor graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, John had served in the U.S. Marines and had been retired from Norton Co. Survivors include his daughters, Veronica Tansey of Latham and Judy Tansey of Troy; longtime companion of Patricia A. Nelson of Troy; brother of Catherine (Sherman) Van Alstyne, Gertrude (Edward) Kakule, George Patrick (Elizabeth) Tansey, and the late Joseph Tansey and Bernard (Jane) Tansey; grandfather of Michael Tansey. The funeral service will be held from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third Street, Troy on Monday at 8:30 a.m. then at St. Brigid's Church in Watervliet at 9 a.m. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Waite, Mildred Ostrom DELMAR Mildred Ostrom Waite, 93, of Delmar, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Clifton Park, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Ostrom and Ada (Mawby) Ostrom and wife of the late Douglas O. Waite. Mrs. Waite was continually employed in the securities industry for more than 75 years. She worked for the brokerage firm of Howell, Wiggin and MacArthur in Albany from 1929-1934 and was employed by the investment counsel partnership of Betts & Morris and its corporate successor, Van Cleef, Jordan and Wood from 1934 to date. She was a former trustee and treasurer of the Rensselaer County Historical Society in Troy. She is survived by her son, Orville Waite of Delmar; a brother, Wallace M. Ostrom of Clifton Park; and a number of nieces and nephews including Marjorie Peplowski and Gordon Ramsay. She was predeceased by a sister, Lois Ramsay and a brother, Kenneth Ostrom. Funeral service will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment, Memory's Garden in Colonie.
