Scheidt Banker, 80, of Route 22, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. Born in Rochester, N.Y. on October 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hildegarde Ueblacher Scheidt and the step-daughter of the late Margaret Tirpaek Scheidt. She was the loving wife of Charles W. Banker who died on August 26, 1990. They were married in Sioux Falls, S.D. on December 8, 1944. Mrs. Banker graduated from Nazareth Academy in Rochester and worked at various offices as a secretary/stenographer. She met her husband while he was in the service. Upon their return to Rochester, she worked with their radio repair business as a bookkeeper. In 1953, they moved to Phoenix, N.Y. and, in 1967, relocated to Lebanon Springs from Syracuse. Mrs. Banker worked as a part-time clerk in the Lebanon Springs Post Office before becoming postmaster. She retired in 1988. Mrs. Banker was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in New Lebanon where she worked at Bingo and was one of the church's first readers. She was also a tireless volunteer of the New Lebanon Library. In her spare time, Mrs. Banker loved reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, knitting and her favorite activity, socializing. She was on the board of directors of the Cemetery of the Evergreens. Survivors include her children, Charles D. Doug (Ah-Nee, Cindy), David A. (Luz), William A. (Deborah) and Sherman R. (Deborah) Banker, Sr., all of New Lebanon, Kathryn M. (Jim) Hunter of Syracuse; siblings, Gerard Scheidt and Ann Therese Raetz, both of Rochester; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson. She was predeceased by a son, Frank G. Banker, and a brother, Francis Scheidt. A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be con-celebrated on Monday morning at 11 o'clock in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 20, New Lebanon by Rev. John Close and Rev. Lee Smith. Cremation will follow in the Gardner Earl Crematorium in Troy. Inurnment at the convenience of the family will be in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon. Battini, Marguerite NORTON HILL Marguerite Battini, 87 years, of Norton Hill, N.Y., passed away at the Albany Medical Center on June 2, 2004. She was born in Long Island City on September 6, 1916, daughter of the late Patrick & Mary (O'Connor) Corbett. Marge was a lifelong homemaker & a member of the Greenville Vol. Fire Co. Aux. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and a devoted wife to her late husband, Joseph Battini who predeceased her in 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Marcella Watts and her husband Raymond of Plano, Texas; a son David Battini of Norton Hill, N.Y.; two grandsons, Daniel and Raymond Watts; a brother, Kevin Corbett of Bonita Springs, Fla. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, James and John Corbett and two sisters, Patricia Nichols and Evelyn Kane. He was born in Watervliet and was the son of the late Norman and Margaret Werner Bowmaker. Norman was predeceased in 1992 by his wife, Shirley Green Bowmaker. He was a World War II Army veteran. Norman was employed with Vince Kendrick Jewelers in Albany for many years. He was a life member of Musicians Local 14 in Albany and had attended First Congregational Church. He is the beloved father of Brenda Leslie, Marc Bowmaker (Anne), Mary Schlachter (Kurt), Ruth Dennehey (Michael), Edward Bowmaker and the late Noreen Ten Eyck. Grandfather of Gretchen Vahle (Tim), Karen Moreland (Tim), Michael Ten Eyck (Renita), Laurie Skinner (Ed) and Kim Bowmaker. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren. He is the cherished friend of Vince Kendrick, Angel Feiden and Judi Humphries. Homer was born November 18, 1943 in Schenectady, a son of Margaret Colucci Clark and the late Homer Herbert Clark, Sr. He was educated in Schenectady schools and was a 1962 graduate of Linton High School. Following high school, Homer attended Rider College in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration. He was employed by the State of New York as a research analyst. Survivors in addition to his mother, Margaret include a loving brother, Chalmers C. Clark and his fiancee Nancy Fama of New York City. Duda, 56, of Delta Blvd., Cohoes, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Albany Medical Center Hospital, embraced by his loving family. Born in Ingolstadt, Germany, he was the beloved son of Genowefa Podkowa Duda of Cohoes and the late John Duda. Michael came to the area in 1951 and graduated from the former Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes and attended SUNY Albany. He worked in Green Island at the Ford Motor Company in the radiator line until his disability in 1975. He was a Vietnam veteran, proudly serving in the United States Army. Michael was the recipient of the Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star. He was a member of the E.P.V.A. and a communicant of St. Michael's Parish in Cohoes. Besides his mother, Michael is survived by his loving daughter, Jessica Duda of Loudonville; his sister, Helen (William) Holmes of Davenport, Fla.; his brothers, Richard M. (Gerilyn) Duda of Malta, John J. (Carol) of Latham and Stanley P. (Kortney) of Troy. He was uncle to Melissa Why, Jennifer Scott, Justin P., John A. and Karley Duda. Published in the Albany Times Union from 6/4/2004 - 6/5/2004. Everhart, Richard E. VERO BEACH, Fla. Richard E. Everhart, 80, of Vero Beach, died May 5, 2004 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. Mr. Everhart grew up in and around Oneida in central N.Y., graduating from Oneida High School and earning his bachelor's and master's degrees from Syracuse University. He served his country in the Army Air Force here and Europe during World War II. Mr. Everhart worked for the Schodack Central Schools for 25 years, first as guidance counselor and later as director of Pupil Personnel Services and assistant superintendent. In 1949, Mr. Everhart began his career in education at the Guilford Central School as a social studies and English teacher. He accepted a position as assistant principal at Ilion in 1952 and later moved on to the Schodack Central School District in 1958, living in Castleton-on-Hudson, a community just south of Albany, and during the summers at Third Lake, Old Forge, N.Y., at the camp he built with his longtime friend, Bruce Oatman. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masons and served on the board of directors of the Salvation Army, for a time as president. He was also president of the board of the Fulton Chain of Lakes Improvement Association, where he was a founding member. In 1988, the FCLIA recognized him with its lifetime achievement award. He was founding member and member of the first board of directors of the Town of Webb Property Owners' Association in Old Forge. He was a past president of the Capital District Pupil Service Administrators and the Ilion Teacher's Association. For eight years, he was a member of and chairman of the Rensselaer County Community Services Board. Richard, who was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth (Vaughan) Everhart, leaves his wife Jane of Vero Beach; daughter, Lynne and her husband Robert Holm of Saratoga Springs; and three stepdaughters, Debbie Hennessey, Robin Randazzo and Jill Pantano, and their families. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Everhart at 2:30 p.m. on June 12 at the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida (315) 363-4020, with a brief graveside service following at the Verona Cemetery. Haffner, Anna Marie NISKAYUNA Anna Marie Nancy Haffner, 75, died on Tuesday, June 1, 2004. Nancy, daughter of the late Henry and Katherine Browne was born October 12, 1928 in New York City. She resided in Huntington, Long Island, Cold Spring Park, Long Island and Winchester, Mass. before moving to Niskayuna in 1967. A graduate of Queens College in 1950, Nancy continued her education of the years with post-graduate work at Columbia, Hofstra, Adelphi and Northeastern University. She worked in engineering for Sperry Gyroscope Corp. on Long Island and was a member of the Engineers Association. Nancy was an editor for the Rosendale newsletter, volunteer at King School and member of the board of directors for Independent Living in Schenectady. Active in local tennis, she organized tennis clinics to raise money for the Independent Living Center. Nancy was predeceased in February by her daughter, Ainslee and in 1955 by her son, Christopher. Survivors include her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert E. Haffner; her sons, Robert Haffner of Olean and Thomas Haffner of Schenectady; her daughters, Kathryn Conway and husband Michael of Slingerlands, Pamela Randelman and husband Robert of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Jane Lesslauer and husband Kerry of Hopkinton, Mass.; her son-in-law, Christian Johnson of Westboro, Mass.; and her only brother, Harry Browne of Carbondale, Pa.; and nine grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, a strong, kind, fun and caring woman, full of perseverance. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. She is in peace. SCOTIA Eileen Therese Donovan Jicha, 66, of Scotia, died after a battle with lung cancer on Monday, May 31, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Ballston Lake. Born in Duluth, Minn. on October 3, 1937 to the late William and Kathryn Donovan, Eileen grew up in Green Bay, Wis. She attended St. Joseph's Academy High School and St. Norbert's College in Green Bay and moved to Scotia in 1970. In 1975, Eileen was voted Mother of the Year by the Scotia-Glenville Babe Ruth Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to being a devoted mother, she worked for over 15 years as a clerk with the New York State Education Department. Because of her love of books and reading, she also worked in many bookstores including Union Book, Waldenbooks, Media Play and Barnes and Noble. In addition to reading, Eileen enjoyed working crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and cheering for the Green Bay Packers whose games she never missed. Eileen was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Charles, in 1996. She is survived by her four children, Katherine and her husband Don Walsh of Burnt Hills, David and his wife Laura Jicha of Calif., Sandra and her husband Kevin Korthas of Wis. and Sharon MacNeil of Scotia. Eileen was also the beloved grandmother to nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kathleen, Anthony, Christopher, Carissa, Briana, Holly, Natalie and Jennifer. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Kay, and her husband, Lowell Georgia, of Colo.; her sister, Martha Donovan of Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her sister, Susan Russo; her sister, Carol Buckley; and her son-in-law, Eric MacNeil. Eileen also left behind many wonderful friends including the Ladies' Aid group on Irving Road, many caring co-workers and her dear friend, Nan Beauchemin. McGuire, 52, of Roberta Road, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Albany Medical Center, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Schenectady, Michael was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School. He worked in the maintenance and engineering department at St. Clare's Hospital for over 20 years. After leaving the hospital, he attended Schenectady County Community College and went on to work at the New York State Department of Education in Albany. Michael was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church in Rotterdam and was the leader of its Vocation Prayer Group. Michael was predeceased by his father, John T. McGuire. He is survived by his mother, Ann Fitzgerald McGuire of Rotterdam; one sister, Mary Ann Colligan and her husband Bernard of Fairport, N.Y. and one brother, John P. McGuire of Vestal, N.Y.; two nephews, Bernie Colligan of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Steven Colligan of Fairport; one niece, Michele Colligan of Fairport; one grandnephew, Sean Colligan of Fairport; he is also survived by several aunts and uncles. McNamara, 85, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Beatrice Shannon Colwell. She retired as an examiner for the New York State Civil Service Department after 30 years of service. She was a 1938 graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names and the College of St. Rose, class of 1942. Mary was a member of the Alumni at both schools. She was predeceased by her husband, John S. McNamara, in October of 2000; sister of the late Beatrice Colwell. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Montgomery, 82, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington after a short illness. He was born August 18, 1921 in Mechanicville, son of the late Robert and Agnes (Russell) Montgomery Sr. Howard was a graduate of the Cambridge Central School, class of 1938. He was an active dairy farmer until 1889. He married Martha Bentley on July 3, 1946. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Martha; one son, Joseph C. Montgomery; one sister, Eleanor M. Ketchum and one brother, Robert Montgomery. Survivors include a daughter, Janice Knapp and her husband William of Salem; a son, Robert H. Montgomery of Albany; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Norma Tourge. Nash, Joan Ann TROY Joan Ann Nash, 71, of Marshland Court, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Mooney and Anna Ryan Mooney and the devoted wife of Ambrose L. Nash. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2004. She was a 1951 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a 1954 graduate of St. Peter's School of Nursing in Albany. Mrs. Nash was a registered nurse in the oncology department at St. Mary's Hospital. Previously, she was the head nurse in the emergency room and surgical recovery at Samaritan Hospital for several years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church and a former longtime member of St. Peter's Church in Troy. Survivors in addition to her husband include her six children, Mary Davis (James) of Houston, Texas, Joseph Timothy Nash (Gillian Leonard) of Loudonville, William Martin Nash (Gail) of Guilderland, John P. Neuhaus, Frederick R. NISKAYUNA Frederick R. Neuhaus, 83, of Niskayuna, died peacefully Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clyde and Marguerite (Finke) Neuhaus. A member of the Army National Guard, Frederick served with the Army during World War II, serving in Central Europe and Normandy. For more than 40 years, he worked for the General Electric Company, retiring as a steam fitter in 1980. A former member of the First United Methodist Church, he was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a former member of the Original Schenectady Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Niskayuna Fire Police and Niskayuna District 2 Volunteer Fire Department. Frederick was predeceased in April by his son, Brion F. Neuhaus; and was also predeceased by two sisters, Thelma Brown and Cora Neuhaus. Survivors include his wife, Eileen (Molloy) Neuhaus, whom he married August 2, 1947; two daughters, Amy Davis and her husband John of Schenectady and Kathy Van Iderstyne and her husband Douglas of Rotterdam; four grandchildren, Michael Evans, David and Loreen Evans, Sean Davis and Jennifer Van Iderstyne; a brother, George Neuhaus and wife Colleen of Burnt Hills; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fairview Avenue, Schenectady. He loved animals and was a member of the Capital District Humane Association. Steven was predeceased by his mother, Maureen (Mo) Patterson and his brother, Kevin Palmer. Survivors include his father, Lee Palmer of Ravena; siblings, Michael Palmer of Ravena, Brian Palmer of East Greenbush, Susanne Ingraham of New Baltimore, Sherri Freitas of Coeymans and Benjamin Freitas of Alcove; four nephews; and one niece. She was born in NYC, grew up in Chicago and was the daughter of the late Lester and Louise Roth. She is survived by Malcolm J. Sherman, her husband of 40 years; by her children, Michael J. Sherman of Washington, DC and Drs. Barbara and David Edelheit of Glastonbury, Conn.; by her sister, Ellen Corcoran of Detroit, Mich.; by her mother-in-law, Florence K. Sherman of Waterbury, Conn.; by her grandchildren, Alyssa and Kayla Edelheit; and by several nieces, nephews and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, David S. Roth, of Athens, W.Va. Until her retirement in 2003, Susan was a distinguished service professor in the University at Albany School of Social Welfare and in the School of Public Health and a faculty research associate of the Institute of Gerontology, of which she was formerly director. She was a nationally recognized gerontologist who, among other offices, served as president and treasurer of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education and as president of the New York State Society on Aging. Her research interests included intergenerational relationships, social psychological aspects of housing options, adult foster care and age and gender identity. She was a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education and received a national award for distinguished service in gerontology. She previously served as dean of the School of Social Welfare, was thesis advisor to some 15 Ph.D. students and had also served as director of the school's undergraduate program. She was a Collins Fellow of the University at Albany and, among many campus offices, served as president of the Phi Betta Kappa Chapter and as a long time member and officer of the Chapel House Board and as a member of the board for the Center for Jewish Studies. Her community activities included service on the board of directors of B'nai B'rith Parkview Senior Apartments and on the board of the Senior Service Centers of the Albany area. She served on committees for the Daughters of Sarah Foundation, for Jewish Family Services and the United Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York. While her career brought many honors, she was modest about her accomplishments. She valued the friendship of colleagues and students more than professional recognition. She valued above all the love and support of her family and friends, many of whom were with her in the days preceding her death.
