He had courageously fought serious illnesses for many years. He was the son of the late Charles and Bessie Kapner. In an article written about him by Kevin Harlin, appearing in the June 11, 2003 issue of the Times Union, it was said: An agent with Mass Mutual, Kapner (then 87), celebrates 6+ decades as an insurance salesman - a stretch interrupted only briefly by a stint selling the Navy as a recruiter during World War II. A 1993 graduate of Albany High School, he started selling insurance with the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. on State Street shortly after graduating from Albany Business College in 1934. He and 3 partners formed Anchor Agency in 1960 - which successfully contineues today. All along, his relationship whith Connecticut Mutual (now Mass Mutual) continued. He helped reorganize the Junior Chamber of Commerce after World War II, and served as its first post-war president. He joined what was then the Greater Albany Chamber of Commerce in 1950 and became its president in 1962 and 1963. He continued his involvement with the Chamber by staying active up until this year - by calling members to remind them when to renew their membership. The local Chamber appointed him the first President Emeritus several years ago. He has been active at Colonie Country Club where he served as membership chair numerous times. He will be missed as the organizer of many successful golf tournaments. His large circle of friends will remember his ability to gather people around and make them happy to be a part of being together - this was one of his great talents. His civic activities also took him to the Jewish Community Center where he again served as head of many membership drives. He was also an active board member and president of B'nai Brith and recipient of the Covenant award in the early 1960's. He was a mentor and a friend to many. He never said no when help was needed - especially when a young person was looking for information and wise words to help solve a problem.
