BRUNSWICK Viola A. Lola Baggott, 97, formerly of Greenville, R.I., died Sunday morning, June 6, 2004 surrounded by her loving family at the home of her son. Born in Providence, R.I. on March 17, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John J. Murphy and Anne Kelly Murphy. She was educated in Providence and worked as a young woman in a jewelry trade there. Viola was married to the late Joseph K. Baggott Sr. and became a homemaker. She traveled with her husband during his career and lived in the Capital District from 1958 until 1971 when they returned to Greenville where she remained until 2002. She then came to reside with her beloved son, Joseph K. Baggott Jr., until her death. In addition to her son, Mrs. Baggott is survived by her devoted daughter-in-law, Barbara; a sister, Rita A. Philip, of Providence, R.I.; and her loving grandchildren, Colleen Baggott and her companion, Mark Karowe, of Redondo Beach, Calif., Maureen Seitz and her husband, Donald, of Nashville, Tenn., Kathleen Baggott of Brooklyn, N.Y., Eileen Rosetti and her husband, Chris, of Slingerlands, N.Y., Janeen Lopez and her husband, Herman, of Hoboken, N.J., and Helene Bridget Baggott of Troy, N.Y. Also surviving are nine beautiful great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Leonard; her sisters, Winifred and Mary; and a great-grandchild, Dante Rosetti. Bray, 53, beloved husband, father and grandfather, of San Francisco, Calif., passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 4, 2004. Gerard was born in Ithaca, N.Y. on July 21, 1950. Most of his childhood was spent living in Binghamton, N.Y. Years later, Gerard moved to Albany, N.Y. to attend Siena College, in Loudonville, N.Y.. After finishing college, he worked at the Troy Record and then the Albany Times Union, where he worked as a city editor and then business editor. Following his employment at the Times Union he went to work for the New York Post, where he also worked as a business editor. In 1994, Gerard moved to London, England to work as a business editor for Bloomberg. In January 2003, Gerard moved to San Francisco, Calif., to work for Bloomberg, as a business editor. Gerard's father, George Bray predeceased him. He is survived by his mother, Muriel N. Bray, Binghamton, N.Y.; his wife, Madeleine Kern, San Francisco, Calif.; one son, Justin; one daughter, Sarah; one granddaughter, Brianna Bray, Albany, N.Y.; a sister, Muriel R. She resided in South Troy since her birth on the Fourth of July 75 years ago to the late Stephen and Eleanor Styczynski. After graduating from Troy High School, Lydia was employed as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward & Co. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in South Troy until its recent closure. Lydia participated on numerous committees for the Church and was a former president of its Mother's Club. She was happiest, though, being a member of the Church's choir. Lydia was also a member of the Polish American Club in South Troy and held several elected positions within the organization, including that of president of its Ladies' Auxiliary. When she wasn't globetrotting with her beloved husband, the late Vincent T. Chodkowski, Lydia's favorite things to do were reading, cooking and reading about cooking. She is survived by her two daughters, Lynda Flynn of Celebration, Fla., and Jean Chodkowski of Troy; and her two brothers, Stephen Styczynski and his wife, Theresa, and Roger Styczynski and his wife, Chris, all of whom reside in Troy. She was also daughter-in-law to the late Vincent and Stella Chodkowski and sister-in-law to the late Ted Chodkowski and his surviving wife, Rita, of Schenectady. Blanchard Cook, 78, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 in Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness, Fla. after a period of failing health. She was the wife for 57 years of Warren E. Cook. A native of Whitman and formerly of Latham, she was born on November 14, 1925 to the late Ashley F. and Esther (Spooner) Blanchard and was a graduate of Whitman High School, class of 1943 and Brockton Business College. She worked at the former Whitman Savings Bank and later moved to Holden where she and her husband owned and operated Cook's Camper Sales. She worked for Welcome Wagon in Holden. Later, she and Mr. Cook moved to Latham, N.Y. where they owned and operated the Warren Cook Tax Service. She also worked for Compotype, a company owned by her daughter in New York. She was a member of the Newtonville Methodist Church, Eastern Chapter #47 of Order of Eastern Star, past president of the Business & Professional Women's Association of Latham, N.Y., past president of the Latham Newcomer's Association, the Albany Colony Society of Mayflower Descendants and was selected as Mother of the Year in 1962 in Brockton. Peg Noonan Doran, 73, of South Lake Avenue, died suddenly Monday, June 7, 2004 at her home after being stricken at her residence. Born in Troy on June 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Mary Mollie Bracken Noonan. Mrs. Doran was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy in Troy and a 1948 graduate of the Catholic Central High School in Troy. She was a 1951 graduate of St. Peter's Hospital in Albany School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at the Leonard Hospital in Troy for several years and also was a homemaker. In 1963, Mrs. Doran began her second career as a kindergarten teacher at the former St. Peter's Academy in Troy where she taught until the school closed in 1978. Peg later taught kindergarten for another eight years at Our Lady of Victory School in Troy until retiring in 1986. Following the death of her husband, J. Gilbert Gil Doran in 1999, Mrs. Doran became the president of the Doran Funeral Home on South Lake Avenue in Troy. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy and a former parishioner of St. Peter's Church in Troy. She was a member of the Seton Health Auxiliary at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. She was the wife of the late J. Gilbert Gil Doran; mother of Matthew J. Mrs. Dudek grew up in Mechanicville and was a graduate of Mechanicville High School. She attended both Vermont Junior College and Boston University. In 1955 she married John F. Dudek, who died in 1999, and they resided in Halfmoon their entire married life. Joan was a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of strong Christian values and she imparted her faith to her family and friends alike. She was an example of strength and courage to many. Friebel, her siblings, Janet Whitman, Ruth Mahoney and John Dick, her granddaughter Amy Sue Friebel and her great-grandson, Kyle Joseph Fahd. Bessie and her late husband had owned and operated the former Vince's Tavern in Albany from 1962 to 1972. She was a clerk for several insurance companies in Albany, most recently with Dan Keegan State Farm office, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed crafting, knitting and spending time at her summer home in Lake Luzerne. She is the beloved mother of William Friebel and his wife Deborah, Nancy Fahd and her husband Joseph, Karen Wania and her husband Frank, and Dan Friebel and his wife Helene. Published in the Albany Times Union on 6/9/2004. Holcomb, Marjorie H. ALAMEDA, Calif. Marjorie H. Holcomb passed away peacefully Friday, June 4, 2004 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Marjorie was born in Troy, N.Y. on January 30, 1918 and lived there her entire life. She spent the last three and one-half years in Alameda, Calif. under the care of her loving daughter, Cherie Lynn and family. Marjorie was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Corliss C. Holcomb. Marjorie was born on Carolina Avenue in the Albia section of Troy and attended Troy public schools. Upon graduation from high school in 1936, Marjorie went to work for New York State and worked in various titles and locations during her 42-year career, retiring in 1981 as a principle stenographer. The friends and acquaintances which she made throughout her career are too numerous to mention and always held a special place in her heart. Marjorie was married in 1947 to Corliss, whom she met at a local dance in 1946. Their son, Drew, was born in 1948, followed by their daughter, Cherie, in 1956. Marjorie was many things to many people but, above all, she was a caregiver. She cared for many. Her epileptic sister, her parents, her aunt, her husband and her children with never a complaint and a constant smile on her face. Those who knew Marjorie will always remember her by that smile. Marjorie loved to draw and paint and was an active member for many years of the Troy Art Guild and a local group of artists known as the Octagon Painters. Her father, August Hillebrandt, and aunt, Josephine Hillebrandt, were also active members. Marjorie's style was like her personality: gentle, soothing and tranquil. Her paintings graced many Troy area shows and displays over the years. Marjorie was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Troy for many years and her faith and grace sustained her and those around her through the trials and tribulations that are dealt to all who traverse this life. Marjorie loved to travel. She traveled widely in the United States with her husband, Corliss, her daughter, Cherie and grandson, Shane. She spent many pleasurable hours in her later years taking Sunday day trips with her son, Drew, daughter-in-law, Linda, and sister-in-law, Virginia Holcomb of Troy. Those trips usually ended with a pleasant meal shared at some scenic location and Marjorie always said these were happy times. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, August and Viola Hillebrandt (stepmother, Gladys Hillebrandt); a sister, Genevieve Hillebrandt; and an infant brother. Marjorie is survived by her two devoted children, Drew David Holcomb, and his wife, Linda, of Middle Grove, N.Y. and Cherie Lynn Holcomb and her husband, Donald Swatling, of Oakland, Calif. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Shane J. and Cynthia Holcomb of Troy, N.Y. who loved and cared for Marjorie during the earlier portion of her illness. She is further survived by loving grandchildren, Samantha Lynn and Jesse David Swatling-Holcomb of Oakland, Calif. and one great-grandchild, Alexander Shane Holcomb of Troy, as well as nieces, Bonnie Holcomb of Galveston, Texas and Gail Willsey of Melrose. Marjorie will be cremated in Oakland, Calif. and will return to Troy for burial next to her husband in Elmwood Cemetery. A future memorial service will be announced at the convenience of the family. Holland, Nora SCHENECTADY Nora Sullivan Holland, 93, of Rugby Road, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 after a week's illness in St. Clare's Hospital and Hospice with loving family by her side. Nora was born in County Galway, Ireland, the daughter of the late Michael and Nora O'Toole Sullivan, where she was one of 16 children. Nora immigrated to America in 1937. She lived in Boston until she moved to Schenectady following her marriage to Nicholas Holland. He died in 1987. Nora was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and a member of the Rosary Society. Her life revolved around her family, her friends and neighbors. Nora was always willing to share her many talents with others. Her outstanding cooking and baking skills, as well as warmth and wit, were appreciated and enjoyed by countless family members and friends. Survivors include her brother, Christy Sullivan of Galway, Ireland; a loving sister, Philomena Cassidy of Boston; her loving nephews, Tommy Holland of Palmyra and Peter Cassidy of Boston. Nora is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews in America and in Ireland. Nora also leaves behind a large extended family of loving relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Nora was predeceased by her devoted husband, Nicholas, and seven brothers and seven sisters. Hyatt, James Edward PRESTON HOLLOW, N.Y. James Edward Hyatt, of Preston Hollow, N.Y. and formerly of Mahopac Falls, N.Y. died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at the Fireman's Home in Hudson, N.Y. He was 73. He was born in Baldwin Place, N.Y. on October 17, 1930, the son of James L. and Clara Head Hyatt. James was a life member and past chief of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a former Putnam County Fire Coordinator with the designation County Car One. He was employed as a well driller with P.F. Beal & Son in Brewster, N.Y., retiring in 1985. On June 9, 1950 he married Joan Lockwood at the Red Mills Baptist Church in Mahopac Falls. In addition to his wife of Preston Hollow, he is survived by his son, Jack and his wife Christine of Ravena, N.Y. and his daughter, Linda S. Schaeffler and her husband Edward of Carmel, N.Y.; his brother, Douglas of Mahopac Falls; his sisters, Helen Eastwood of Pawling, Viola Benjamin of Mahopac Falls and Mildred Austin of Windsor, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Brandi Schaeffler and Edward Schaeffler; and many nieces and nephews. Koshgarian, Hayguhie TROY Hayguhie (Heidi) Koshgarian, 82, formerly of Jacob Street in Troy, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Aleppo, Syria and came to the United States at the age of 18. Mrs. Koshgarian had worked as a collar maker for Cluett and Peabody in Troy for many years, retiring in 1979. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Armenian Church, the women's group and the senior group of the church. She was predeceased in 1976 by her beloved husband, Peter Koshgarian. She is the beloved mother of Peter Koshgarian and his wife Marlene of Colonie and Charles Koshgarian and his wife Boonum of Hampton, Va. She is the sister of Araxi Kourbouchian of Ridgefield, N.J. and the late Kevork, Moses and Dickran. She is also survived by four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. WATERVLIET Anna L. Lehane, 95, a longtime resident of Watervliet, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Teresian House in Albany. Born in England on July 7, 1908, Mrs. Lehane was a daughter of the late John and Frances Sullivan and sister of the late Helen Gamba, Winifred McGuire and John Sullivan. She came to the United States at the age of 14 and resided in New York City for a short period before relocating to Watervliet. Mrs. Lehane was employed by the former Behr-Manning Company in Watervliet for nine years. She was a member of the Watervliet Senior Citizens and was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas A. Lehane; loving mother of Thomas J. Lehane of Latham; cherished grandmother of Karen Gras of Troy, Charles Lehane of Appalachian, N.Y., Kim Blakeman of East Greenbush and the late Richard Lehane. Mr. Moore was a Capital District resident for most of his life. He was a U. S. Navy veteran. Dick was a truck driver for Holmes Transportation, retiring in 1989. Mr. Moore was an avid collector of 1:18 model cars. He was a life member of the VFW Post #7062. Dick loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Dick is the beloved husband of 33 years to Carol Moore. Patchen, Ann F. DELMAR Ann F. Patchen, 90, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at St Peter's Hospice Inn, Albany, N.Y. Mrs. Patchen was born in Lockport, N.Y. in 1914. Upon graduation from nursing school at Niagara University in 1938, she went to work at Rochester State Hospital where she met and married William E. Patchen. During World War II, she worked for the Red Cross in NYC. In the latter war years, she had a radio and TV show on wound care for returning veterans. She was recognized for this work by a feature story in the 1944 NY Times. In the Albany region, she continued Red Cross work until 1960, when her children went to college. Then she worked for the BCSHS as a school nurse teacher until 1968. She worked tirelessly at community service in Bethlehem: fund raising for building St. Thomas Church; budget committee chair for Bethlehem School Board during the building of the senior high school; various committee assignments for the Delmar Progress Club and was a life member; member of the Slingerland's Players, and leadership for FISH. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Patchen and Jerome W. Patchen; five grandchildren, Jason M. Patchen, Christa L. Stanula, Elizabeth A. Patchen, Kimberly A. Owens and Rebecca M. Patchen. Francis was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving his country in World War II, where he was wounded during the infamous Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the railroad after 40 years. Francis was a member of the Gerald O'Neil American Legion Post #1683. He had been a devotee of the game of golf, learning much as he caddied in his youth. He was an avid fan of football and never missed listening to the games even when his sight was gone. There are few people who loved horse racing as he did and Saratoga was definitely his August place to be. Francis is the husband of Muriel Tierney Smyth and the late Theresa Rock Smyth Lyons. He is survived by his daughters, Alice Benson of Tempe, Ariz., Patricia DesChamps of Albany, Kathy St. Lucia of Glenmont, Suzane Breedlove of Rensselaer, Maureen Smyth of Rensselaer, Georgeanne Rice of Windsor, Calif.; and his son, Michael F. Timber, Addie Ruth (Bonesteel) NORTH GREENBUSH Addie Ruth Bonesteel Timber, 91, of Hidley Road, died Monday, June 7, 2004 at her residence after a long illness. Daughter of the late Charles and Susan Wend Bonesteel and wife of George Timber Jr., she was born in North Greenbush and had resided her entire life on Hidley Road and was a graduate of Troy High School. Mrs. Timber was a social worker for the Rensselaer County Department of the Aging for 15 years and previously worked for Worthington Flowers in Wynantskill and for Montgomery Ward in Menands. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill working on many boards and activities of the church and a longtime member of the New York State Home Bureau. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, William J. Little of Framingham, Mass. and Charles F. Little of North Greenbush; a daughter, Jane Ann Rinsem of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Kathi Turano, Scott C. Little, Kelly Mesko, Perry L. Little and Randy, Elizabeth and William Little; six great-grandchildren, Chantal and Michelyn Little, John Ross Turano and Charles, Randall and Ethan Little; two brothers, Edgar Bonesteel of Roanoke, Va. and Lester Bonesteel of Hot Springs, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Clyde, Emerson and Francis Bonesteel. Vavrinek, 87, died Sunday, June 6, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital. Olga was born in Manhattan, lived on Long Island for 40 years and in Ravena for 15 years. During World War II, Olga work for Hazeltine Electronics in the production of sonar anti submarine devices. She also had a career in retail, and worked several years for J. Trifeletti & Sons in Albany. Olga enjoyed neddlepoint, NY Times Crossword Puzzles, TV Game shows and Soap Operas. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Frank W. Vavrinek of Ravena; her son Barry Vavrinek; granddaughters, Stacey Maile of Fla. and Karlie Vavrinek of Ravena; great-grandson, Johnathon Maile; niece, Barbara Schwartz and nephew, Kenneth Marinace. Published in the Albany Times Union on 6/9/2004. Warzek, Frank G. SAN JOSE, Calif. Frank G. Warzek, 73, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 24, 2004 at his residence in San Jose, California. Born in Waterford, N.Y., he was the son of Frank S. Warzek of Cohoes and the late Victoria Olszowy Warzek. Frank graduated from Siena College with a degree in physics and honors in mathematics. He worked for over four decades as a nuclear engineer, retiring from General Electric's Nuclear Division in 1991. Frank was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 5th Army Corp, 844th Signal Company. He completed eight years of service, and received the National Defense Service Medal. In 1956, he relocated to the San Jose, California area. An accomplished bridge player, Frank was ranked as one of the top five bridge players in the country. He was a Gold Life Member of the American Contract Bridge League, San Jose Bridge Club, for over 35 years, where he achieved life master several times over. He was a life time member of the San Jose Elks Lodge #522, and actively served on several committees with the lodge. Frank was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church of San Jose where he served on the usher staff. He was a generous donor to many charities, favoring those benefiting children and youth. Besides his father, Frank is survived by his loving children, Michelle Warzek, Michael Warzek; daughter-in-law Kathy Warzek and granddaughter, Katie Warzek all of San Jose, California. He is also survived by his brothers, Carl Warzek and Robert Warzek, both of Halfmoon. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
