Burke, 69, of McChesney Ave., died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at his residence. Born (May 22, 1935) in Troy, he was the son of the late James P. and Nan C. (Donohue) Burke. Mr. Burke graduated as president of the class of 1954 at Lansingburgh High School and attended Georgetown University. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Green Island where he had been employed for many years and had previously been employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Albany and Washington, DC. Mr. Burke was a US Marine Corps veteran. He was commandant of the Troy Detachment Marine Corps League and a member of the Independent Veterans of Lansingburgh and the UAW. Brother of Joan Garland (Mike) of Mechanicville and James P. Burke (Kay) of Latham; also survived by three nieces and three nephews. Funeral will be held on Monday at 10:15 from the John J. Carroll, 92, of Evergreen Commons, formerly of Lansingburgh, died Friday morning, June 11, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Fitzgerald O'Brien and wife of the late W. Edward Carroll Sr. Agnes was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church and a former member of the Woman's Club of St. Augustine's School, a former member of LaSalle Woman's Auxiliary and a member of the Speigel Elders of Speigeltown. Agnes is survived by her children, Peg Ryan and her husband, Ken, and Dennis D. Carroll, both of Lansingburgh, and W. Edward Carroll Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Cobleskill. She is also survived by a brother, Joseph T. O'Brien of Troy and was the sister of the late Margaret Kehn, Catherine Ryan, Mary Ryan, Frank, William, John and James O'Brien. Agnes is also survived by her grandchildren, Kenneth Ryan, Joanne Sullivan, Paula Burke, David Ryan, Paul and Daniel Carroll, Jacqui Reno, Christopher, Kevin and Craig Carroll; also 19 great-grandchildren, The late Lindsay Sullivan, and several nieces and nephews. George Kelsey Crampton was born on April 15, 1924 in West Haven, Conn. to Kenneth Elliot Crampton and Clara Margaret Douglas. He passed away June 10, 2004. He graduated from Scotia High School, Scotia, N.Y. in 1942 and entered the tool making apprentice course at General Electric Company and studied there until drafted for service in World War II. He served in the Army from January 1943 - October 1945 when he was discharged from the 716 Military Police Bn. Returning to Schenectady, N.Y. he completed his apprenticeship and worked as a toolmaker/machinist for 42 years until his retirement in 1984 at which time he and his family moved to Thomaston, Maine. He was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Church of Savannah, the Thomaston Historical Society, American Legion Post #37 Thomaston, V.F.W. Post #2499 of Rockland, Maine., G.E. Down East Retirees' Association, the St. Andrew's Society of Maine and the Coastal Scottish Heritage Society of Savannah. He is survived by his wife whom he married in 1948, Barbara Amelia Couch; daughter, Kelsey Anne; son, David Bruce and three grandchildren, Calum, Meaghan and Iain of Savannah. Droms, Frances Maguire ROTTERDAM Frances Maguire Droms, 92, of Third Avenue, Rotterdam, passed away at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center on Friday, June 11, 2004. Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Droms was a lifelong area resident. Her husband, George W. Droms, died August 29, 1980. A graduate of Schenectady High School, Mrs. Droms was employed for 33 years as a secretary in the city school district of Schenectady, serving at the elementary, high school and administrative levels. At the time of her retirement, she was secretary to the assistant superintendent of schools. Mrs. Droms was a former American Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer and a member of the Civil Service Retired Employees Association, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Schenectady County Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her daughter, Katherine E. Droms of Rotterdam; a son, Dr. William G. Droms of Burke, Va. and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Gilberti Droms; a granddaughter, Courtney M. She was born in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of the late Carl P. and Edith Hanawalt Lenz. Dr. Lenz attended rural schools and graduated from Hawkeye High School, Iowa in 1953. She received her B.A. from Luther Collage, Decorah, Iowa, Summa Cum Laude in 1959 and her M.A. in English from the University of Kansas in 1961. Her master's degree in library science was received at the University of Wisconsin in 1965. Her Ph.D was received at Northern Illinois University in 1974. Dr. Lenz's Honors include Phi Beta Kappa. She was listed in Outstanding Women of America; Who's Who of American Women and Mensa. Millicent married Robert Gilson in 1982. Dr. Lenz was a full professor of Children's Liturature at SUNY, School of Information Science and Policy, Albany from 1984 to 2003. During her professorship at SUNY, she wrote a highly praised book, Nuclear Liturature for Youth and Children; also numerous professional journal articles. Throughout her life Dr. Lenz was a supporter of causes for the disabled and mentally retarded. She was highly devoted to her profession and respected by all. She was an active member of the National Children's Literature Association and also a member of its board. She was a longtime member of the Modern Language Association. Millicent is survived by her husband, Robert Gilson; two sisters, Mitilda Lenz, Union, Iowa and Ruth Oster, Scappoose, Ore.; a brother, Herman Lenz, Sumner, Iowa. Hicks, 81, of Troy, beloved husband of Barbara Frazee Hicks for over 56 years, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born and educated in Troy, he was the son of the late Ernest and Jessie Stewart Hicks. He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. Mr. Hicks was a gunners mate in the United States Navy during World War II stationed in the Pacific and the recipient of 6 Battle Stars. Mr Hicks was an industrial engineer technician at the Watervliet Arsenal for over 37 years and retired in 1978. After his retirement he worked for himself in the electrical and plumbing business for many years. He was active in Little League and Babe Ruth for many years in the Center Brunswick area. He was a lifelong resident of the city of Troy. Mr Hicks was a member of the Foreman's Association and the 20 Years Club at the Watervliet Arsenal. He was a Life member of the veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7466 in Poestenkill and the American Legion Poestenskill. Mr. Hicks was an avid bowler for many years. He had a special love for his family and grandchildren. Survivors in addition to his wife include his loving children, Cheryl (Charles) Bell of Hamburg, N.Y. and Brad (Pat) Hicks of Latham; his three cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Brate, Scott and his wife Lynne Hicks, Nicole Hicks and Mark Brate all of Latham. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his sister, Jessica Young. Mr. Killion was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving as a master sergeant in a field artillery battalion in Sicily, Anzio, France and Germany. He retired as a machinist from Huyck Mills in Rensselaer in 1980, where he worked for 35 years. Mr. Killion was a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville. Lenz, Louis J. LENZ Louis J., 93, passed away at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Monday, December 29, 2003. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Frank and Catherine Fay Lenz and loving husband of the late Emma Dewhurst Lenz. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and before retiring Mr. Lenz was employed by Dutch Village as their superintendent of maintenance. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed raising beagles, chickens and rabbits and will be remembered for his stories. He was a loving, gentle man that will be missed by those whose lives he touched. Mr. Lenz is survived by one daughter, Caroline Dunn of Roleystone, Australia; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one niece, Christine O'Connor and her husband James of Schenectady; three grandnephews, Adam O'Toole, David O'Connor and Jason O'Toole; and his daughter, Alexandrea Jane; one grandniece, Corinne O'Connor; and one brother, The Reverend Harry Lenz. Mr. Lyman was a graduate of Albany Business College and Siena College, worked for Conrail for over 30 years and was a member of the Delmar Fire and Rescue Squad and the Ravena Fire Department. Mangione, 53, of Latham, beloved husband of Linda Malsan Mangione, died suddenly Wednesday morning, June 9, 2004 at Glens Falls Hospital. Tim was born in Troy, the son of Alfred Edward Mangione of Glenville and the late Shirley Laffety Mangione. Tim received an associates degree in civil engineering from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and was currently a civil engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation in Schenectady where he worked for the last 33 years. Tim lived in Latham since 1991 and served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a medic for four years. He was a member of the Eastern New York Chapter of the Association for Bridge Construction and Design Inc. He was a member of the Mendelssohn Club of Albany for 10 years and a member of the Public Employees Federation. Tim enjoyed doing everything with his wife, Linda, who is the love of his life. They enjoyed traveling in the United States, the Caribbean and Mexico. His special favorite was Puerto Vallarta, where he spent many happy days swimming, snorkeling and enjoying beautiful sunsets. Tim was very fond of his little car and loved driving his Miata in the Adirondacks. The fellowship Tim experienced with the Mendelssohn Club was very important to him. Tim was happiest when he was spending time with Linda at their camp in Diamond Point on Lake George and on their boat, Cuddlin' Cuddy. He enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets, picnicking on various islands, anchoring in their favorite bay in the Mother Bunch and he was never tired of touring the lake. The Captain enjoyed sharing these things with their closest companions, Debi and Chris, John and Karen, Chris and Mike Nystoriak, Rose and Dick Phillips and Daryl and Doug Ferguson. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by his stepson, Christopher L. Rouse and his wife, Debra of Colonie. He is also survived by a brother, David P. Mangione and his wife Catherine of Niskayuna; a sister, Deborah S. Miller and her husband Richard of Glenville; his uncles and aunts, John F. and Karen Mangione of Colonie, Robert N. and Rita Laffety of Stuyvesant; his two children, Scott C. Traver, Marilyn COLONIE Marilyn Traver, 72, of Nancy Teresa Terrace, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Ellis Hospital following a brief illness. She was born September 29, 1931 and was the daughter of the late George and Eileen (Slingerland) Greenwood. Mrs. Traver was a lifelong area resident. She spent the youthful years of her children at home tending to her family. After her children were grown, she went to work as a secretary for Flah's Department Store and later was a secretary for BOCES. Only a few weeks following her husband's retirement in 1989, Mrs. Traver elected to join him in retirement. Over the last fifteen years, they have spent their time together traveling across the country and also enjoying winters in Florida. Over the years, Marilyn, with her family, has enjoyed camping and boating on Lake George and more recently, she would periodically humor her husband by joining him on the golf course. She also cherished her lunch and shopping trips with her daughter and sister. She was the cherished wife of 52 years of Richard Traver. She is also survived by a daughter, Deborah (David) Sager of Schenectady; and one sister, Nancy (Vincent) Percenti of Colonie. Three grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Traver of Watertown and Lindsey Sager of Schenectady and several nieces and nephews also survive her. In 1995, Marilyn was predeceased by her son, Gregory Traver. A Celebrant Service will take place Sunday evening at 5:00 at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State Street in Schenectady. Truax, Ruth O'Connor LATHAM Ruth O'Connor Truax, 62, of Meadow Brook Rd., Latham, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at home, embraced by her loving family after a long battle with cancer. Born in Troy, N.Y., she was the wife of Gerald J. Truax of Latham and daughter of the late William and Mabel O'Connor. Ruth received her education and lived most of her life in Cohoes. She was a dedicated home maker and worked as a waitress for 10 years at Bob's Diner in Watervliet. She was a devout communicant of St. Ambrose Parish in Latham. Besides her husband, Ruth is survived by her children, Vickie Hutzler of Martinsbury, W.Va., and Kevin R. Watson of Watervliet; her grandson, Mac Hutzler; her stepchildren, Kim McCormick and Gail Rossi, both of Cohoes, J. Michael Truax of Wash. and Anthony Truax of Calif.; her brothers, William (Joan) O'Connor of Calif. and Ronald (Linda) O'Connor of Clifton Park. Vartanian, Lena BRUNSWICK Lena Myczko Vartanian, 83, of Valley View Drive, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness. Born and educated in Poland, she was the daughter of the late George Myczko and Anna (Katkowiecz) Myczko and wife of the late Kaidzak Vartanian. She immigrated to the United States in 1950 and had resided in the Troy area. Mrs. Vartanian was employed as a Cramers Armory in Cohoes as a seamstress for 19 years, retiring in 1999 and, prior to that, she was a sewing machine operator for Marshall Ray in Troy for 22 years. She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in South Troy. She is survived by her son, Robert Vartanian (Patricia) of Buffalo; a daughter, Valentina Pawlowski (John) of West Sand Lake; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Sara Pawlowski of West Sand Lake. Visscher, 87, of Nassau died suddenly Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at her home. Mrs. Visscher was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Enselein. Mrs. Visscher had lived in Nassau for 75 years. She was a graduate of Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany and worked for the Department of the Navy during World War II in N.Y.C.; she was a member of the Chandler-Young V.F.W. Post #8162 Ladies Auxiliary and a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Nassau. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence (Red) Visscher, and her brother, John C. Enselein.
