A. Albert Agan, 92, died Sunday morning, June 13, 2004 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Gallipaux Albert. Mrs. Agan was employed by the Haggaman Bakery, the Blue Ribbon Potato Chip Factory, the South Colonie School lunch program and for 15 years she and her husband were caretakers for the Dexter, Barnaby and Cross Orthopedic Office. Mary was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Albany. She was predeceased by her siblings, Edward, Frederick and John Albert, Sophia Randall and Anne VanDenburgh. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward M. Agan, Sr.; her loving children, Carol L. Hanley and her husband, Robert, Edward M. Agan, Jr. and his wife, Judy; devoted grandmother of Lisa M. (David) Tymchyn, Erin L. (David) Nuzzi, Jennifer B. Hanley, Scott E. (Amy) Agan and Joelle M. (Kevin) Brady; great-grandmother of Samantha A. Tymchyn, Daniel R. and Joseph P. Nuzzi, Ashley L., Zackery S. and Eric C. Agan, Colin D. and Chelsie M. Brady; also survived by many close and loving nieces, nephews. CLIFTON PARK Thomas A Alheim Sr., 44, of Clifton Park died suddenly on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Tom was born in Albany and is the beloved son of Mrs. Victor Brush and the late Arthur J. Alheim Jr. He was currently working as a steam fireman with the Albany County Nursing Home for the past 19 years. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and granddaughter. He is the husband of Wendy Alheim. Tom is the cherished father of Heather Wilkinson, Thomas A. Alheim Jr. and Shane Alheim. He is the devoted brother of Donna McCormick and her husband Dennis and Cheryl Lee and her husband Jeff, all of Greenville. He is the loving grandfather of Kasey Lynn Dumire; cherished son-in-law of Lee Thomas. Several nieces and nephews also survive. COLONIE Dorothy Greenstein Annechino, 89, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the Albany County Nursing Home. Born in Albany, Dorothy was a longtime Albany resident, working for the New York State Department of Labor during the 1940s and spending most of her life as a homemaker. With her late husband, Anthony J. Annechino, she enjoyed the neighborhood children when they lived on Swartson Ct. in Albany. She also enjoyed her poodles and flea markets. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Louis and Clara Greenstein; sister of the late Rose G. Silverman, Rudy Greenstein and Joseph R. Greenstein; aunt of Sandra Berinstein-Fletcher, Joseph M. He graduated from Hoosick Falls Central School in 2003. He was a student at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. James enjoyed playing football, hunting and fishing. Clara worked for many years in New York State Government for the Department of Agriculture and Markets, the Department of Health, Workmens' Compensation and the NYS Museum, retiring from the Department of State Directing Real Estate Licensing Services in 1972. She was the sister of the late Ben and Millard Schaffer and was the sister-in-law of Dr. Walter and Sondra Israel of Camarillo, California. Loving mother of two sons, Dr. David Israel and his wife Ann Sue Israel of Roslyn Harbor, N.Y. and James Israel and his wife Iris of Latham, N.Y. Born in Troy, the daughter of the Late Edward and Anna Curley Kolenberg. She was raised in Troy and at one time a member of St. Peter's Church, the former St. Lawrence Church and lastly St. Mary's Church, all in Troy. She had briefly worked at the Watervliet Arsenal and later was a seamstress for Tiny-Totts in Troy. She is survived by her two brothers, Peter J. Kolenberg of Latham and John Kolenberg of Stamford, Conn., a brother-in-law, Leon Wait of Wynantskill; also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was per-deceased by her sister, Ann Wait. Susan was a lifelong resident of Schenectady's Stockade. Susan was born in Schenectady in January of 1957. She is the daughter of Van Shanklin and the late Kathleen Cox Shanklin. Susan graduated from the Schenectady City Schools in 1975 and went on to earn a B.S. in nursing from Niagara University, class of 1978. Susan's nursing career took her to North Carolina, after graduation where she worked in labor and delivery at Duke Medical Center. She then moved to Lock Haven, Pa., with her husband Paul Mlodzianowski and was a floor nurse at Lock Haven Hospital. Upon moving back to Schenectady in 1982, she was a public health nurse for the City of Schenectady. Susan then became a Supervisor of the Public Health Nurses for the county of Albany's Health Department. Susan then moved her career to Bellevue Women's Hospital in Niskayuna, where she worked as a labor and delivery nurse. Susan then moved on to MVP Health Plan as a Supervisor of Case Managers, where she came in contact with the most supportive and compassionate group of people her family could ever hope for. Susan was active in many community activities. She opened her family home for the Stockade Association Walkabout, was on the committee for the Stockade Walkabout, volunteered her time at the Schenectady Schools and was an active member of the Schenectady Soccer Club and a big supporter of the Schenectady High School program. Her love for soccer was apparent in her vocal support of the high school team and her hard work with the Schenectady Soccer Club. Susan is survived by her husband of 24 years, Paul Mlodzianowski; two beautiful sons, Jason Mlodzianowski and Joshua Mlodzianowski, her father Van Shanklin and his wife Mary Kelly Shanklin of Glenville; sister of Elliot W. Shanklin and wife Diane of Altamont, his three special children, daughters Jane and Claire and their son Bryan; brother-in-law Ronald Mlodzianowski of N.J.; sister-in-law of Joseph Mlodzianowski and wife Mary of Rotterdam and their two beautiful daughters Jennifer and Amy Mlodzianowski; a sister-in-law and childhood best friend, Cheryl Russell and husband Gary of Schenectady and their thoughtful son Justin Friello; Cathy Starmer of Syracuse, her best friend from college who helped Susan, Paul, Joshua and Jason with Susan's last hours together, We love you Cathy; Nancy Hunter, a friend and angel that made Susan's last week here easier for the whole family, We love you Nancy and the staff of friends at MVP Health Plan, too numerous to mention, that have shown such support and compassion to Susan and her family, more support and love than can be imagined. Nilsen, 65, of Lyons Lake Road, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at Springside Nursing Home in Pittsfield, Mass. Mrs. Nilsen was the daughter of the late Lee and Mary Miller Carey and the loving wife of Norman R. Nilsen Sr. Mrs. Nilsen grew up in Chatham, N.Y. and graduated from Chatham High School. Mrs. Nilsen moved to Nassau in 1964. She was a homemaker and for a time, secretary to Bob Whitney, Town Supervisor. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she was a choir member, the Festival of Praise Choir, a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation, being a direct descendant of a Civil War soldier. She had many hobbies and interests including Civil War history, genealogy, music, sewing and lots of travel. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nilsen is survived by her son, Norman R. Nilsen Jr. of Nassau; two daughters, Leigh C. Nilsen of Pittsfield, Mass. and Lynn Gleason of Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Ruth Landry and Doreen McGivern, both of Pittsfield, Mass. Mrs. Nilsen is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Nilsen was the foster mother of Alirio Castaneda of Columbia, South America. Ratchick, 90, died on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Northeast Center for Special Care, Lake Katrine, N.Y., where she had been a patient for about four years, during which time she was dependent upon a ventilator for life support. Born on March 1, 1914, Edna was raised in the West Bronx, N.Y., where she attended public school and Hunter College. She worked for an English shirting company as an office manager prior to her relocation to Albany, N.Y. where she was a resident for approximately 40 years. Edna was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Dr. Irving Ratchick, who died on November 3, 2001. They had been married for more than 60 years. Edna was also devoted to the care of her late husband's deceased sister, Sylvia Ratchick. The daughter of Helen and Nathan Neuberger, who predeceased her, Edna was also predeceased by her brother, Frederick Felix Neuberger. She is survived by a nephew, Richard Neuberger; a niece, Joan Sachs; a cousin, Joyce Smolkin; also survived by Adrienne Seidner, a dear and special niece of her late husband and her husband Neil, both of whom were very caring and attentive to Edna and her husband Irving, during their long periods of illness and disability. Edna was a member of Temple Beth Emeth, Albany and a member of the Albany Jewish Community Center, where she was known as an accomplished swimmer. She was also a dedicated member of Gideon Chapter of B'nai B'rith and for many years was chairperson of the Sunshine Committee. Edna will be specially remembered for the warm and thoughtful get well wishes and notes of congratulations or condolences which she personally wrote to the members of Gideon Chapter and their families over the years. Throughout her life, Edna was a prolific letter writer, corresponding with a multitude of friends and acquaintances with messages of appreciation and caring. Despite her physical limitations, this correspondence continued until shortly before her death. Edna was loved and admired for her courage, friendliness and good humor by the staff of the Northeast Center for the Disabled, who provided her with the care, treatment and personal attention that allowed her to enjoy a modicum of pleasure, notwithstanding her dependence upon a respirator, for which her family is truly grateful. AVERILL PARK Charles Fuller Smith, 53, of Averill Park died suddenly at his Burden Lake home on June 13, 2004. Chic was the father of Stacy Wheelock of Scotia and Anna Mae Smith of Delmar, and beloved companion and partner in life of Patricia Patti Allen. He recently retired from 32 years of service with the Capital District Transit Authority, and was a long-time member of Local 1321. Chic was also a member and past-President of the Burden Lake Improvement Association. Chic is survived by his loving siblings, Lawrence (Betsy) Smith, Connie (Ernie) Burkart and Nancy (Mike) Fresina, all of Averill Park. Frank lived most of his life in Troy and lived in Ballston Spa before relocating to Glenmont. He retired from Price Chopper as a butcher after many years and was employed with Tobin Meat Packing Co. earlier. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a former member of the Cohoes-Waterford Elks. Frank enjoyed the pastime of fishing and was a communicant of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Delmar. Steininger, Albert F. TROY Albert F. Steininger, 88, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Andrew and Hedwig Steininger. He was a graduate of Troy High School and was employed by Cohoes American prior to entering the service during World War II. Mr. Steininger served as a radio operator in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1945 in the 489th Bomb Group, a part of the Eighth Air Force. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the EAME Ribbon with four Bronze Stars. He flew anti-sub patrol, escorting convoys from New York to England, flew two missions on D-Day and completed a tour of missions in the European Theatre. He finished his tour flying B-24's from Salt Lake City via Brazil to England, later converting crews to B-29's as he awaited serving in the Pacific when the war ended. Following the war, he was employed as a pressman by the Knickerbocker News and the Times Union, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a founding member of the Troy Ski Club and belonged to many other area ski clubs over the years, most recently with the 70 Plus Ski Club. He was a member of the Troy Elks and a former member of Germania Hall, Albany Camera Club and the Cohoes American Seniors. He also participated in the New York Senior Games in swimming, track and field, winning medals. He was a hunter and fisherman. Survivors include a brother, Andrew Steininger of Troy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Louise Farney, Joseph Steininger, Rose Raymond and Edward Steininger. The funeral will be on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home, 510 Pawling Avenue at Parkview Court, Troy. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. She is remembered for a life of service, love, compassion and grace. A graduate of NYS College for Teachers, Albany, Lois spent many years as a substitute teacher in Watervliet High School. A deacon in her church, she gave selflessly of her time and talents to anyone in need. Her calling, though, was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. James Thompson; four children; eight grandchildren; and her beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16, 2004 7:00 p.m. Westminster Presbyterian Church, State Street, Albany. Interment will be private. Zeke Zickas Jr., 55, of Albany, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2004. He was the son of Mary M. (Vink) Zickas and the late Frank J. Zickas Sr. He was predeceased by his father in 1981. Frank was born on September 22, 1948 in Albany where he resided all of his life. He leaves to mourn, his loving and constant companion, Jean M. Rosenthal Biance, who was also his devoted caregiver in his entire courageous battle with cancer. Frank graduated from St. Patrick's Elementary School and from Cardinal McCloskey High School in 1966. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967, where he served for four years before being honorably discharged in 1971. Frank then worked as a clerk at the US Post Office on Karner Road for 32 years before retiring in October of 2003 because of his health. He was an avid bowler and loved to go fishing. He was an avid sports fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and the Boston Celtics. Survivors in addition to his mother and Jean, he is survived by his son, Frank J. Zickas III and his wife Carol; his daughter, Genet M. Zickas and her fiance Tony Paonessa; the mother of his children, Elizabeth Beth M. Hague Zickas; his grandson, Frank Henry Zickas; his granddaughter, Victoria Catherine Zickas, all of Albany; his aunt, Clara C. Rendine; his uncle, Douglas J. Vink and his wife Ann; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Betty Zanello Hague; many many cousins and friends and his best friend, Larry Norton. He was loving Uncle Zeke to Jean's children, Tina M. Biance, Chris A. Biance and Jean's grandson Michael D. Ferris.
