TROY Samuel J. Sam Armao, 87, of 25th Street, formerly Grove St. in Brunswick, beloved husband of over 62 years of Frances (Chiovani) Armao, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born on August 13, 1917 in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Salvatore and Josephine Valente Armao. Mr. Armao was educated in Troy and attended Troy High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater and received a Certificate of Merit for his outstanding performance of duty. From 1945, Mr. Armao owned and operated Samuel Armao Plumbing & Heating Contractors, retiring after 40 years. Mr. Armao was a communicant of St. Bonaventure's Church in Speigletown, a charter member and former officer of the former St. Bonaventure's Church Men's Club and was also very instrumental in the building of St. Bonaventure's Church as it is today. He was also a member of the Speigle Elders, the Italian Community Center in Troy and a 59-year member of the American Legion, Noble Callahan Post in Troy as well as the American Legion in Rensselaer. Devoted father of Teresa Califano of Halfmoon, Dawn O'Neil and her husband Terry of Clifton Park and Joan Armao of Troy; cherished grandfather of David Califano of Halfmoon; also survived by several nieces, nephews and many caring friends. Sam was the brother of the late John, Thomas, Guy, Anthony and Joseph Armao and Mary Sestito. Chiusano, Michael Angelo BALLSTON LAKE Michael Angelo Chiusano, 80, of Ballston Lake, died Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Alterra Assisted Living, after a long illness. Born in Orlando, Fla., Mr. Chiusano had been in the area most of his life. He was a mechanical engineer and district and regional manager for General Electric, Schenectady in the steam turbine generator and installation and service engineering departments. He retired May 1, 1985 after 38 years of service. Mr. Chiusano was a U.S. Navy veteran attaining the rank of Ensign, serving in Adar, Ala., the American Theatre and Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a graduate of RPI with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and Union College with his master's degree. He was of the Unitarian Church. He was also a licensed professional engineer in NY state. A member of the General Electric Elfun Society. Mr. Chiusano enjoyed piano and organ playing, and square dancing. He was an Elfun Society Mentor for Martin Luther King School and member of the Electric City Chorus. Mr. Chiusano is survived by five children, Robert M. Chiusano of Cedar Rapids, Michele DeGeorgia of Rotterdam, Dean Chiusano of Clifton Park, Michael J. Chiusano of Clifton Park and David Chiusano of Schenectady. Survived also by nine grandchildren, and was the brother of Philomena, Theresa, Lorraine and Albert, all of the New York City area. Funeral services will be private. There will be no calling hours. Delaney, 83, formerly of Nassau, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Child's Nursing Home in Albany after a long illness. Mr. Delaney was born in Chicago, Ill. He served in the Army during World War II with the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, he moved to Nassau with his late wife Frances Mc Kever Delaney. He lived in Nassau until needing nursing home care in 1994. He was employed as a supervisor of the chemical warehouse at BASF in Rensselaer, retiring in 1977 after 33 years service. He worked for seven years at the Rensselaer County Sewage Treatment Plant retiring in 1984. Ray was a life member of the Chandler-Young V.F.W. Post 8162, a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Nassau and was a former member of the Nassau American Legion Post #1268 and the Rensselaer Elks. Mr. Delaney is survived by his children, Robert E. Delaney of Old Lyme, Conn., Michael F. Delaney of Nassau, Susan J. Shields of Nassau and Nancy R. Mrs. Ehrcke was employed as a secretary for the ALCO in Schenectady, Yankee Trails in Rensselaer, 4th District Dental Society and the Greenbush Reformed Church. She was a member of TOPS, the camera club and the Greenbush Reformed Church in East Greenbush. She was an avid reader, board game player and photographer. She was the wife of the late Dr. John W. Ehrcke, DDS. Mother of Margaret (Stephen) Hayes of East Greenbush and the late Robert P. Ehrcke. Joyce Greg, 73, entered into the loving embrace of Our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. She was born in Albany on January 9, 1931. She fought her illness like she lived the rest of her life. She met every obstacle and setback with acceptance, strength and her ever-constant faith. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary which sustained her through many of life's trials and tribulations. The joy in her life was giving to others. She was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether from the human or animal world. After graduating from high school, she worked for the WROW radio station in Albany. She enjoyed working with the students at the Memorial School of Nursing as a secretary/house mother and later as an aide in the Memorial School Library from 1971-1995. She was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Mercy and a member of the church rosary society. Joyce was predeceased by her infant son, Stanley W. Greg, in 1953, always telling her surviving children that, we had our own special angel in Heaven. She leaves to mourn her memory, her husband of 54 years, Stanley W. Greg; her sons, Richard (Judy) Greg of Clifton Park, Mark (Denise) Greg of N.C. and John Greg of Albany; her daughters, Terri Fischer of Albany and Diane Cerveney of Calif. Jacobson, 94, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home. Clifford was born in Guilderland, the son of the late Verner and Myrtle Jacobson. He worked as a truck driver and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local #294. He was also a member of the Berne Masonic Lodge, the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club and the Helderberg Reformed Church, where he had served on consistory. He is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Relyea of Clearwater, Fla. and Mabel Frisbee of Voorheesville. King, 87, of Latham, died Monday, October 4, 2004 after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Center in Troy. Born in Cohoes on April 14, 1917, he was a Latham resident for over 50 years. Gordon was a 1936 graduate of Cohoes High School and a member of the Spindle City 36'ers, a school alumni group. He had served in the Army Air Force during World War II. During his lifetime, Gordon had a varied work career. He worked for General Electric Turbine Division, as sales manager for Memory's Garden Cemetery, as a garden supply dealer in Clifton Park and was a self-employed vinyl repair technician. Gordon was the husband of the late Dorothy Reamer King. He is the son of the late Helen Drummond King and William King of England. He is the father of Carolyn J. Eichele of Averill Park, James G. King of Lowell, Mass. and the late Joan E. King. Grandfather of Lynn Aldrich, Lisa Buell, Scott King, Amanda King Worley, Adrian King, Abbott King and the late Austin King. Krug, Beverly Ann LOUDONVILLE Beverly Ann Krug, 65, of Loudonville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2004 with her family at her side. She was born in Baltimore, Md. and was the daughter of Gordon Cross and Dorothy Poole. After an education in computer programming, Beverly followed her career to Albany. She was employed for Tobin Packing Company before becoming the bookkeeper for Krug Farms in Colonie, until her retirement. Beverly has also enjoyed a successful career as a professional musician, known as Beverly Kaye. She played piano and organ at many of the area's finest jazz clubs and venues. She is survived by her husband, William Krug; her children, John (Cindy) Wilkinson, William (Debra) Krug, Lisa (Michael) Carey, and Randy (Renee) Krug; and her eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Harold Poole; her sisters, Linda, Virginia, and Lois; her brother, Paul and their families, all of the Baltimore area. He was born in Bennington, Vt. and was the son of the late James and Jesse Sumner Lovett. Stan was a 1933 graduate of Bennington High School and attended the Brooklyn School of Engineering. He was a resident of Colonie for over 50 years. Stan had worked for several years with Sperry Rand Corp and also with the South Colonie School District. Mr. Lovett enjoyed traveling to warm climates and wintering in Fla. with his wife. He was predeceased in 2002 by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eleanor Kearney Lovett. He is the father of Bruce Lovett (Nancy) of Colonie, Joan Lovett Hunter (Greg) of Elbridge, N.Y. and Gary Lovett (Janet) of Clinton Corners, N.Y. He was the brother of the late Cleo Pearson. Lyons, 94, of Bethlehem Terrace in Slingerlands, formerly of Albany, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at her home, after a short illness. She was born in Hoboken, N.J., graduated from Good Counsel College, White Plains, N.Y., and received her master of arts degree from Columbia University in New York City in 1934. She did graduate work in London College and Cambridge University in England. She continued her graduate work at State College at Albany, Siena College and College of St. Rose. Mrs. Lyons was an instructor in speech correction at Fordham University before her marriage to Dr. James S. Lyons, who died in 1964. She later taught at Philip Livingston School in Albany for 16 years. During her years in Albany, she contributed endless hours to community endeavors. She was a member of Governor Harriman's select committee on the study of polio, president of the woman's auxiliary to the Albany Medical Society, member of the board of directors to the Albany Senior Citizens, president for two years of Vincentian Parent Teachers Association, member of New York Intercollegiate Club, regent of Catholic Women's Service League and diocesan chairman of all upstate counties for 15 years of Catholic Girl Scouts. She received the National Council of Catholic Youth award and the local award given by the Albany Girl Scout Council. She was also a member of the Catholic Charities Committee of the Albany Diocese. She is survived by two daughters, Patrice A. Lyons, an attorney in Washington, D.C. and Rose T. Gadbois, a mathematics teacher in Allentown, Pa.; and by four grandchildren, Laura Berger, Christopher Gadbois, Daniel Gadbois and James Walsh. Two children have predeceased her, Mary Lyons Walsh and James A. Lyons. Raymond was employed for the State of New York Department of D.E.C. as director of pesticide for over 30 years retiring in 1992. He was owner and operator of the Raymar Tree Farm on North Lansing Road, since 1960. He was a captain in the Marine Corp. serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Clifton Park Elks, American Legion Post 1091 and Polish Community Center. He was predeceased by his brother, Wadyslaw Malkiewicz. Raymond is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Hayes Malkiewicz; his children, Susan and her husband Robert Carusone of Mooers Fork, N.Y., John Malkiewicz, Nancy Malkiewicz, James Malkiewicz and Deborah Malkiewicz, all of Schenectady; grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, Brian, Marcus and Lydia; brother Dr. George Malkiewicz of Trenton, N.J.; loving extended family, Bruce, Nancy, Morgan, Dylan and Jacob Quay of Latham; Steve, Nadia, Gina and Andrea Applebee of South Carolina, Patty and Nicholas Manuli of Schenectady; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning 8:30 a.m. from Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State Street and followed at 9:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Prendergast, 84, of Hetcheltown Rd. formerly of Van Wormer Rd., Rotterdam, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Glendale Home following an extended illness. Born on June 13, 1920 in Schenectady, Edward was the son of the late Patrick and Mary O'Brien Prendergast. Following graduation from Nott Terrace High School, Mr. Prendergast served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy. He worked as a coil winding specialist at G.E. for 40 years retiring in 1985. Mr. Prendergast was a member of Hildebrand-Davis Chapter VFW in Rotterdam as well as the Chief Petty Officer's Organization. He was married on October 13, 1946 to his wife of 46 years Drusilla Arnold Prendergast at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in Schenectady. Edward was a resident of Rotterdam for over 40 years and a longtime communicant of St. Gabriel the ArcAngel Church on Hamburg St. Drusilla Prendergast died in 1987. Survivors include two daughters, Carol A. Rose and her husband Wesley of Glenville and Patricia J. Slebonick and her husband Steven of Stafford, Va.; one brother, John Jack Prendergast of Rotterdam; four grandchildren, Katherine and Kimberly Rose and Patrick and Andrew Slebonick. CLIFTON PARK Mrs. Elizabeth C. Ranford, 96, former longtime resident of Hudson, N.Y., died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Schuyler Ridge, Clifton Park, after a brief illness. Born in Hudson, June 15, 1908, she was the devoted daughter of the late Joseph and Helnora O'Connor Ganley and loving wife of the late Charles Ranford, who died in 1962. A graduate of St. Mary's Academy and Hudson Memorial School of Nursing, Mrs. Ranford was a registered nurse. During her long career, she touched countless lives as a nurse at Columbia Memorial Hospital and as a visiting nurse for Metropolitan Life. Once she started a family, Elizabeth switched to private duty nursing to balance her love of family with her love of nursing. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Hudson. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David P. and Jill Davis-Ranford of Loudonville; three grandchildren, David C. Ranford of Albany, Kevin J. Ranford of San Diego and Mia J. Davis of Eugene, Ore.; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by steadfast friends, Helen Blowers and Betty DeCelle, both of Mechanicville, who were a consistent source of cheer during years of visits to Elizabeth at Schuyler Ridge. Vellozzi, 93, of Maplewood, died Wednesday morning, October 6, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Vellozzi had worked for many years for the Town of Colonie as a heavy equipment operator and had previously been self-employed as a farmer in the Maplewood and Colonie areas. He loved gardening, fishing and especially loved to read and collect books, but the most important thing in his life was his family.
