Born on January 6, 1923 in Watervliet, she was the daughter of the late Anthony L. and Helen E. Marguin Passafaro. She was a graduate of St. Brigid's Grammar School and Watervliet High School, class of 1940, and attended Fredonia State University. At an early age, she studied dancing, particularly toe, tap and ballet under the tutelage of the Thomas Sternfeld Studio in Albany and Schenectady. While in Watervliet, she operated her own dance studio and produced recitals for her students. In 1942, the Passafaro family moved to Dunkirk, which led to Norma operating dance studios from 1942 to 1945 in Fredonia and Silver Creek, N.Y. In 1943, she was a volunteer USO performer for U.S. Army personnel in Texas. On August 1, 1945, she married Lt. Donald Anthony (U.S. Air Force) and they resided in Lakehurst, N.J. until 1946 and then shared their lives together in Notre Dame, Ind. from 1947 to 1952, thence taking up residence in Troy from 1953 until 1984 when they relocated to the San Jose, Calif. area. During the 1970s, Mrs. Anthony was a senior citizen aerobic instructor, member of the Troy Country Club Golf Committee; in 1984, was a member of the GE Welcome Wagon in San Jose, Calif. and from 1984 to 1987 the Golf Committee. She was a communicant of St. Pius X in Loudonville and had previously been a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Devoted mother of Donna Marie (Michael) Mooney of Troy, Mark Joseph (Janet) Anthony of Charlotte, N.C., Donald Joseph (Elizabeth) Anthony Jr. of Troy, Norma Marie (Emilio) Martino of Genoa, Italy and Susan Marie (Paul) Geisler of Statesboro, Ga.; dear sister of Dr. Ronald A. (Marian) Passafaro of Fredonia and the late Quentin Passafaro; cherished grandmother of Jennifer and Susan Mooney, Maxwell, Mark, Amelia and Jaclyn Anthony, Donald, Alexandra, Patrick Anthony, Audrey Martino and Nicholas and Benjamin Geisler; loving great-grandmother of Selwyn Anthony; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Queens, the son of Gerard C. Bartone and the late Catherine Rafferty Bartone, Jerry moved to Guilderland in 1987 and recently relocated to Virginia. He worked as an operations manager for AT&T for 25 years retiring in 1998. Most recently he worked as a vice president of BIZNESS Online in Albany. He chaired the Reach Out for Youth campaign for the Capital District YMCA in 1995 and was also involved in helping to solidify the hockey program at Christian Brothers Academy. He was one of the founders of INCOMPCO located in Guilderland and was an active member of his local parish. Jerry was a devoted, loving father and friend and will be greatly missed by his children and all those who knew him. In addition to his father, he is survived by his children, Christopher J. Bartone of Springfield, Mass., Scott M. Bartone of Guilderland, Katie M. Bartone of Guilderland; and their mother, Kathy Bartone of Guilderland; a sister, Margaret A. Mrs. Boyce was born in Johnstown, N.Y. but lived most of her life in the Albany area. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Barr. Mrs. Boyce is survived by her husband of 22 years, William J. Boyce, also of the Teresian House; her children, Harry (Linda) Barr of Guilderland, Virginia (Stephen) Kotecki of Loudonville, John (Doris) Barr Jr. of Delanson and Suzanne (James) Kendall of Malta; and by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Breeze, Elisabeth SCHODACK LANDING Elisabeth Steele Breeze passed away on October 15, 2004. She was born on January 4, 1912 to the late Rae and Lillian (Schnell) Steele at their home on Seaman Avenue in the Village of Castleton. Educated in local schools, she graduated from Albany High School in that special class of 1930 and from the former New York State College for Teachers (now the University at Albany) in 1934. She taught second grade for many years at Castleton Elementary, retiring in 1973. She was active in the Reformed Church of Schodack at Muitzeskill where she had been a member since 1927; she was a life member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association as well as the American Association of University Women. She held various offices in the various organizations of which she was a member. The Steele Farm in Schodack Landing, where she grew up, was a part of Betty's heart and soul. She had a special love for the farm and devoted herself to maintaining it as a family treasure for the Steele family. She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert, and her sister, Ruth VV Steele. While Betty had no children, she did have two daughters of her heart, her nieces, Elizabeth Tan and Jacqueline DiStefano. Her sister, Marion Graves Gould (Franklin) of San Diego, Calif. and her brother, John R. Steele, DVM (Suzanne) of Vernon, N.Y. survive her. In addition, John's children survive, Joanne Clark of Madison, Conn., John R. Steele Jr. of Homer, N.Y., Jean McCranie of Denton, Texas, Jacqueline DiStefano (Jeffrey) of Albany, N.Y., James Steele of Atlanta, Ga. and Jeffrey Steele (Cathy) of Bridgewater, N.J. Their children too survive. Also surviving are the children of her niece and namesake, Elizabeth (Betsy) Graves Tan, who passed away in the prime of her life. They are Alexandria Tan of Washington, DC, Mark Tan (Julie) of Santa Clara, Calif., Nathan Tan of Saipan, Northern Marianas Islands and Paul Tan of Kailua, Hawaii. She was an active member of the North Chatham United Methodist Church for many years. She also enjoyed her farm, horseback riding, her two poodles, golfing and traveling. Betty and her husband founded Boardman Ltd., an Albany-based retail chain of 13 department stores located throughout New York State until the mid-1980s. Betty generously shared her time and talents as a founding board member of St. Peter's Hospital Foundation since 1978 and held the position of assistant treasurer since 1990. Additionally, she served on the board of directors of the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society for many years. She is survived by her niece, Jo Ann Y. Ashley; her nephew, Douglas J. Polsinello, Vincent James SCHODACK Vincent James Polsinello, 45, died October 14, 2004 after a short illness, entered a journey to be with his mom and son, Nicky in a different and better place. Looking back with his extreme love and strength, Vince was wishing us well and happiness until we meet again. In not saying goodbye, we honor his belief that his mother, Dawn and son, Nicky are waiting at the gates to welcome him into eternity. She was a graduate of Guilderland High School and State University of Albany. She worked as a project administrator for Taconic Biotech in Rensselaer. She was a member of the Loudonville Community Church. In addition to her parents, Nancy leaves to mourn her husband, Albert Pultz; her two sons, AJ and Andrew Pultz; her siblings, Richard Lasselle of East Berne, Susan Meaney of Poughkeepsie and Ann Feidner of Shortsville, N.Y. Ross, 93 years, of Greenville, passed away at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home HCC in Delmar, N.Y. on October 16, 2004. She was born in Waterloo, N.Y. on April 24, 1911, daughter of the late Saron and Jessie (Ackerman) Bird. Doris could always find work to do. She had been a cook at Balsam Shade Farm, a chambermaid at the Colonial Manor, a floor clerk at Albany Medical Center and always could be found in the kitchen cooking for the Senior Meals at Hiawatha Grange. Her great love, other than her family, was being a dedicated member of the Hiawatha Grange. She was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy F. Ross Sr., three grandsons and a brother, Robert Bird. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Bishop of Westerlo, N.Y., Nancy Snyder of Coxsackie, N.Y.; two sons, LeRoy (Roy) Ross Jr. of Greenville and Harold Ross and his longtime companion Marilyn, also of Greenville; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville. The Hiawatha Grange will conduct a service at the funeral home prior to the funeral. As to her wishes, cremation was at the Albany Rural Cemetery. SCHENECTADY Winifred S. Sartoris, 86, died Friday, October 15, 2004 at home after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Sartoris was a lifelong city resident. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Schenectady. Mrs. Sartoris was a receptionist for Dr. Cooley and Dr. Farrell in Schenectady. Subsequently, she was the officer manager for Nationwide Maintenance Service in Schenectady. Mrs. Sartoris was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, James W. Sartoris. He died in 2000. She is survived by six children, John Sartoris of Clifton Park, Marge Snyder of Ballston Lake, James W. Sartoris Jr. of Freeport, Maine, Mary Ellen Sartoris and Winifred M. Sartoris, both of Milwaukee, Wis. and Joseph Sartoris of Cambridge, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Rodrigo of Schenectady; seven grandchildren, Ari Snyder, Kalle Snyder and Kerry Stapleton, all of Ballston Lake, Nicholas Sartoris and Katherine Sartoris, both of Cambridge, James Sartoris and Christopher Jackson, both of Jonesville; one great-grandchild, Kassandra Stapleton of Ballston Lake. Schlegel, Elizabeth WATERFORD Elizabeth Parker Schlegel, devoted and loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at her residence. Born in Waterford, she was daughter of the late Clarence A. and Elizabeth Franke Parker and wife of the late Frederick J. Schlegel. Elizabeth was a graduate of Waterford Halfmoon High School and also the Mildred Elley Business College. She was employed by Tech Hughes in Watervliet and also was publicity director for the Cohoes Community Center. In her earlier years, she taught creative dance and published poetry. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford and was a member of the altar society and former member of the choir at the church. Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Barbara VanVoorst and her husband Jim of Clifton Park and Cindy Wilmot and her husband Jim of Pittsford, N.Y. She isalso survived by brothers, Paul Parker of Loudonville and George Parker and his wife MaryJane of East Greenbush; her sister, Ruth Cerroni of Troy as well as her twin sister, Eleanor Roddy and her husband Jack of Suffield, Conn. She is predeceased by her sister, Mary E. Parker, and brother, Albert Parker. She is the grandmother of Kristen and Gregory VanVoorst, Jonathan, Jeffrey and Jay Robert Wilmot. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and worked as a shop foreman for Armory Garage for over 30 years before retiring in 1992. Joe was the beloved husband of the late Ann Marie (Hulsopple) Tremblay; devoted father of Denise A. (Jim) Kinney of Schodack, Patrise M. (Jan) Schroeder of Latham, Joanne (Stephan) Kannes of West Sand Lake, Thomas J. (LeeAnn) Tremblay of Chatham, and Michael R.
