Born in Tapolca, Hungary, he was the son of the late Lajos and Margit Bencze. Stephen served in the Hungarian Army before immigrating to America with his wife, Maria in 1956. He worked as a stone cutter for Adam Ross Cut Stone in Albany since 1958. Stephen had a passion for fishing. He was a very strong rooted family man, focusing on his family and cherishing every moment spent with them. Stephen is predeceased by his brother, Jozsef Bencze and his sister, Margit Bencze. Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years Maria Toth Bencze of Waterford; his beloved children, Steven Bencze of Waterford, Anna Maria Bencze Pantuosco and her husband Gregory of Rotterdam, Robert Bencze and his wife Mary of Poolville, N.Y. and Thomas Bencze and his wife Janelle of Rotterdam. His grandchildren, Kristen and Nicholas Bencze, Michael, Maria and Anthony Pantuosco, Jason and Jennifer Bencze and Malcolm Bencze. He is also survived by his sisters, Anna and Terez; and many nieces and nephews in Hungary. Letzelter Bramah, 83, formerly of Nassau, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Evergreen Commons, East Greenbush after a long illness. Born in Rensselaer, she lived most of her life in Nassau. Doris retired as a sales clerk for Kmart of East Greenbush. She was an avid fisherman and bowler. Predeceased by her husband, Alfred J. Bramah; parents, Christopher J. and Gertrude Welter Letzelter; brothers, Alfred, James and Christopher Letzelter. Survivors include four sons, Alfred J. Bramah of Albany, William Bramah of Mount Shasta, Calif., James and his wife Terri of Schodack and Michael Bramah of Waterford; one sister, Sister Mary Christopher Letzelter of Sisters of Mercy, Albany; two brothers, John Letzelter of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Ronald Letzelter of Va.; six grandchildren, Anissa, James, Paul, Christopher, Sarah and Elizabeth. Crandall passed on September 1, 2004, at his loving daughter's home. He was the son of the late Barbara and William Crandall. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Margaret H. and his daughter, Kathy Roth. He was born in Troy, N.Y. on September 15, 1917. His family moved to Watervliet in 1928. He was educated in the Watervliet School System. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. in 1942. He was an instructor of electrical circuits for airplane equipment. He was discharged in 1946 at the rank of sergeant. Mr. Crandall retired from the U.S. Post Office, Troy, after a long career as a mail handler. He was a longtime member of NARFE and a member of the American Legion, Halfmoon. He enjoyed his last years by traveling with his longtime companion, Lois DelGuidice of Waterford. He will be missed by his daughter, Marge Brahm, Clifton Park and his son-in-law, John L. Brahm of Latham; his son, William and wife Janet, Watervliet; his brother, John, Latham; his sister-in-law, Kay Withkowski (John), Troy. He was the beloved grandfather of Kevin Brahm, Clifton Park, William, Michael and Jennie Crandall, Watervliet, Kim Luallen, Valatie, Kellie Downes, Rensselaer and Kevin Roth, Valatie. Mrs. Dingee was born in Rapid City, S.D., the daughter of the late John and Eila Miner Walton. She retired in 1999 as the office manager at Hallenbeck & Riley in Albany where she worked for 50 years. Forest, 52, of Brook Street, died September 3, 2004 in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y. due to injuries from a motorcycle accident. He leaves his sister, Susan Lopez of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; an aunt, Doris LeBlanc of Leominster and his companion of 14 years, Bonnie J. Scanlon with whom he made his home, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was born on April 22, 1952 in Leominster, Mass., the son of Donald and Eva (DeLisle) Forest and had lived in Leominster, Mass. for many years before moving to Fitzwilliam, N.H. where he lived for 14 years. Five years ago he moved to Rensselaer, N.Y. where he was currently working for General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y. as a master scheduler. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Dorothy lived in the Albany area for many years, where she was employed by the New York State Department of Labor, Albany, retiring in 1980 after 40 years of service. She was a member of the Roessleville Presbyterian Church for over 57 years and had taught Sunday school there for more than 40 years. Dorothy loved exotic travel and bowling and remained active through her golden years. A very active member of the Elk's Lodge #49, he was named Elk of the year 1991-92. Joe received recognition for a lifetime of outstanding service in the furtherance of all that Elkdom stands for and represents in 2001. A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Albany Local #7241 BEW, he worked throughout New York State. He was born on April 16, 1983 in Albany, N.Y. and was the son of Michael C. Messier Sr. of Waterford and the late Michele Bagley. Michael was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, Class of 2001. An avid outdoorsman, Michael enjoyed camping and fishing trips to the Schroon River and snowboarding throughout the area. He had a passion for the fresh air and the wind on his face ever since early childhood when he started riding a quad. His unending love for his boxers, also known as his babies, Max, Nala and Chopper, will never be forgotten. Above all, the quality time that he spent with his family and friends at a special event or holiday were the best times in his life. Michael enjoyed life, laughs and the sound of Uncle Jimmy's voice on the phone to say, Food's on. He was the brother of Marcella Lyn Messier of Waterford and Melissa Marie Messier of Clifton Park; special love of Melissa Marotta of Clifton Park; maternal grandson of Carolyn J. Catherine (Kaye) Millington, 61, of Syracuse, died on September 6, 2004. She was a graduate of the College of Saint Rose and Aquinas Institute of Religious Studies in Grand Rapids, Mich. Kaye also attended the Maxwell School of Communication at Syracuse University and co-authored a book on minority cultures. She was a member of the AIDS task force in Syracuse and was a consultant for the Syracuse Roman Catholic Diocese AIDS curriculum. Kaye was a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondolet for 15 years. During that time, she taught in Syracuse, Amsterdam and Hudson before becoming director of religious education for St. James Church in Cazenovia. Health reasons caused Kaye to retire this June after 28 years of teaching at Bishop Ludden High School in Syracuse, N.Y. Her parents, James and Catherine Millington, and two sisters, Dolores Renaldi and Marion Wedro, predeceased Kaye. Surviving are her brother-in-law, Renaldo (Lindy) Renaldi; two nephews, Stephen Renaldi and James Wedro; four nieces, Kim Singleton, Tina Facteau, Christine O'Bayley, Jill Wedro; and her companion, Mary Ellen Shirtz, CSJ. Mr. Palleschi was a 1952 graduate of Schenectady Vocational School, and had been a communicant of St. Clare's Church for many years. Over the years he had been active in baseball within the Christian Youth Organization. He was a member of the Army National Guard, from where he retired as captain. He worked for the New York Telephone Company as a technician and retired in 1989 from ATT after 33 years of service. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise (Andrejko) Palleschi in 1999. Robert is survived by three sons, Vincent Palleschi of Waterford, Robert Palleschi and his wife Theresa of Binghamton and Lawrence Palleschi and his wife Shawn of Colonie; two sisters, Elizabeth Palleschi of Scotia and Laura Wood of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Cynthia Palleschi of Rotterdam. Russell, 57, of Delmar died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at his home. Mr. Russell was born in Troy on June 18, 1947, the son of the late Allen and Margaret (Shea) Russell. He graduated from SUNY Albany with a B.S. in business administration and was a member of the Kappa Beta fraternity. He retired as the assistant director for Classification and Compensation for the NYS Department of Civil Service in January of 2003 after 32 1/2 years of dedicated service. Al was a humble man who was known for his kindness toward others, his outgoing nature and hearty greetings. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family at their camp on Galway Lake. The activities he enjoyed included biking, kayaking, hiking and cross country skiing. He was a member of the Capital Area Ski Touring Association with whom he traveled extensively through out Europe. He was a member of the Northeast Harness Horsemen's Association owning several trotters with business partner Don Bates. Al had a love for traveling and planning trips for family and friends and received an associates degree in travel and tourism from Schenectady County Community College. He was a loving, caring and proud father who taught by example. He was active in his children's lives, volunteering his time with the Bethlehem Soccer and Basketball Clubs and Tri Village Little League. Al coached baseball for many years with the Messina & Cahill Little League team. He loved attending high school and college sporting events in which his son participated. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar. Al volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House where he assisted with the cooking and was especially known for his mashed potatoes. He was also a volunteer with the Wildwood programs and served as a board member. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Klein) Russell; his daughter, Amy K. Russell of Albany; his son, Kevin S. Shippee died of heart failure at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. after a long illness. He was 83 years old. Mr. Shippee was born in Providence, R.I. and served overseas in N. Africa, France and Germany in World War II. Upon his return to the U.S., he attended Brown U. and graduated in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force for 16 years, after which he drove for the United Traction Company, Pines Hills Taxicab, Guilderland Central Schools, Trailways and the New York State Office of General Services. Weeks, Barbara Elaine NEW BALTIMORE Barbara Elaine Weeks, age 53, New Baltimore Town Clerk, died unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center Hospital on Saturday, September 4, 2004. Barbara was born on August 10, 1951 in East Rockaway, Long Island, the daughter of Elaine Wood of Albany and the late Martin C. Smith. She was a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Oneonta with a degree in culinary arts. She was married October 19, 1974 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church to Kenneth Weeks, who survives at home. Mrs. Weeks was first elected town clerk in 1988 for the Town of New Baltimore and was a member of the New York State Town Clerks Association and treasurer of the Columbia-Greene Town Clerks Association. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Albany. Barbara enjoyed crafts, especially Christmas arts and crafts and needlepoint. Barbara made the wreath that is at the entrance of the New Baltimore Town Hall. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Cpl. Matthew B. Weeks, USMC of New Baltimore; a brother, Raymond W. Smith of Altamont; and her nieces and nephews, Gordon Smith, Harry and Barry Braker, Jonathan, James and Joseph Caparaso, Susan, Michael and James Weeks. Funeral services will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the Sopris Funeral Home, Inc., 11877 Rte. 9W, Coxsackie, N.Y. Interment will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, L.I. Weremeichik, Lorraine LATHAM Lorraine Weremeichik (Rainey), 76, of Brookwood Drive, Latham, died at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, Saturday, September 4, 2004 after a brief illness. She was born in Bronx, N.Y. and was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Bannon. Master Dog Trainer Rainey trained dogs for over 50 years, training in areas such as obedience, field trials, therapy dog, tracking and show handling. She always had an uncanny way of knowing what made each dog tick. She will be missed as a compassionate and knowledgeable person in the dog world. Rainey will be terribly missed by her family and her students and friends at Classic Dog Training. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Wagoner of Latham; her grandson and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wendy DeMartino; two great-grandchildren, Emily Kay and Abby Rose DeMartino; her sister, Virginia Julanio; her goddaughter, Camille DiNapoli; and numerous nieces and nephews and aunts. White, Florence M. BROADALBIN Florence M. White, 78, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a brief illness. She was born in Troy on February 1, 1926, a daughter of Frank T. and Florence McGrath Woods and was a 1944 graduate of Cathedral High School in Albany. Mrs. White resided in Albany and moved to Broadalbin in 1984. She was an accounting clerk with New York Telephone, retiring in 1984. Mrs. White was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #337, a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #8690, a member and past N.Y. State president of La Femmes Cabane #143, all of Broadalbin; and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was married to John (Jack) White on March 17, 1951. He died January 1, 2003. Survivors include a son, Michael P. White and his fiancee Patty O'Brien of Troy; a daughter, Patricia W. Leuthold and her husband Ron of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Frank Woods of Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at the Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. Final burial will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
