She was an inspector at Swan Knit, Cohoes, retiring after several years of service and also worked at Barclay's Cohoes for a long time. She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, Cohoes. She was an avid bingo player and also liked camping and stock car races. Marjorie was the wife of the late Stanley J. Bowden, Douglas C. COHOES Douglas C. Bowden, 60, of Baker Ave., died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the son of Ruth Jones Cesare of Cohoes and the late Richard L. Bowden. He was the stepson of the late John H. Cesare. He had lived in Latham and in Cohoes for the past several years. He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham. He had worked at Garden Way, the Record Newspapers, Times Union, Star Taxi, NYS OGS, Memorial Hospital and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Cohoes Caretakers and Cohoes Senior Citizens. Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Mary E. LeMay Bowden; a son, John J. Bowden; his stepchildren, Deborah Gagnon, Eugene J. Garneau and John F. Brennan. He was the brother of John Cesare Sr., Alfred Cesare, Carolyn Francesconi, Trudy DeLude and the late Donald Bowden Sr. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. Letzelter Bramah, 83, formerly of Nassau, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Evergreen Commons, East Greenbush after a long illness. Born in Rensselaer, she lived most of her life in Nassau. Doris retired as a sales clerk for Kmart of East Greenbush. She was an avid fisherman and bowler. Predeceased by her husband, Alfred J. Bramah; parents, Christopher J. and Gertrude Welter Letzelter; brothers, Alfred, James and Christopher Letzelter. Survivors include four sons, Alfred J. Bruni, Elizabeth E. BURNT HILLS Elizabeth Betty E. Bruni, 75, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 at her home. Mrs. Bruni was born in Albany and was raised at the Albany Home for Children. She worked many years at Montgomery Ward, where she was a member of the Teamsters Union. In later years, she and her husband owned and operated Dairy Queens in Hudson and Ghent, N.Y. She was active in the Widows Support Group, and at the Parsons Child and Family Center (formerly the Albany Home for Children). Betty was the wife of the late James Bruni. She is survived by her children Nikki Torchia and James Bruni; her stepmother, Betty Elder; her brothers, Robert Elder, Louis Doukas and George Doukas; her sisters, Barbara Fuller and Mary Ann Downing; her grandchildren, George and Heather Whitcomb, and Matthew and Dylan Torchia. Betty donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College. Before her retirement, Mrs. Duff was a transportation supervisor for Ichabod Crane Central School for many years. Ericksen, Maila LATHAM Maila Ericksen, 74, of Latham, beloved wife of the late Rolf Ericksen, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Eddy-Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes. Born and educated in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Helmi Talvio. She was the valedictorian of Manual Training High School, class of 1948 in Brooklyn. She had resided in Latham since 1989 and had previously lived in Washington Township, N.J. She was employed by the Clarkstown School District in New City, N.Y. as a secretary for over 15 years. Maila was a member of the Sons of Norway in Greenville, N.Y. She loved reading and crossword puzzles. Maila was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She faced challenging times with a positive attitude, always a smile and kind words for everyone. Maila took the time and care to remember each and every person she met by name. She will be sorely missed. The family wants to thank all of the staff at Albany Memorial Hospital, the Eddy Rehab Center and the Eddy Ford Nursing Home for their loving care to Maila. Mr. MacFarland was born in Tucson, Ariz. and resided in Clarksville for the past 12 years. He was a known antique art restorator, and school monitor at the Bethlehem Central High School. He was a man of quiet strength. He found happiness in giving to others, had a deep respect for animals and was devoted to his family. His unique sense of humor and outlook on life brought smiles to all who knew him. He was a talented artist who could see the light out of darkness in all aspects of life. Miller, 60, of South Portland, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wamego, Kan. on January 14, 1944, he was the son of Marth Miller of Wamego and the late Harold Miller. Gary graduated from Wamego Rural High School in 1962 and entered the U.S. Army in 1965. After receiving an honorable discharge, Gary returned to Kan. where he worked in a few different professions until he relocated to North Greenbush, N.Y. in 1973 where he continued to work as a salesman until 1978. Gary joined the U.S. Postal service in 1978 and retired after 26 years of service as a supervisor in 2004. Gary was an avid golfer and hunter and enjoyed the countryside. Although he was very committed to his profession, his biggest commitment always was his family. Gary was a loving father and friend to many people. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. DELMAR Kathleen Theresa (Kay) Moriarty of Delmar, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home due to complications from emphysema. She was born in North Lawrence, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Catherine McCool Pierce. She received her R.N. at Bishop DeGeoburne Hospital in Burlington, Vt. in 1939. On October 6, 1940, she married Daniel John Moriarty. A longtime Delmar resident and an avid horsewoman, she was always interested in world affairs and politics. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar and at one time an active volunteer at CBA. When asked, she said her gift to the world was her five children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and a granddaughter, Erin Moriarty. Gaetana entered the Daughters of Charity in 1943 and was given the name of Sister Stephanie. Thirty years of her community life were spent as a pharmacist in St. Joseph's Retreat, Dearborn, Mich. and Seton Hospital, Waterville, Maine. After four years as the assistant administrator of Nazareth Child Care Center, Boston, Mass., Sister was assigned to the pastoral care departments of St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport, Conn. and Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, Pa. For ten years, she was a valued member of these departments, loved by staff and patients alike. She came to St. Louise's House in 1986 because of ill health. She is survived by her devoted nephew, Robert Cornell of Ariz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the DePaul Provincial House Chapel. Ranellucci, John J. TROY John J. Ranellucci, age 85 years, of Marvin Avenue, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. He was born in Rensselaer and has been a resident of Troy for 21 years. He was a graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. John was an accomplished musician, playing the accordion and was a music teacher for over 50 years. He was retired from the Veterans Hospital in Albany. Mr. Ranellucci was a pioneer of the early days of radio and TV. He had his own program at 18 years of age on WGY radio, his theme song was Hands Across The Table. He was also featured on the Forrest Wilus Radio Program, The Musical Clock. He entertained at summer resorts in the Catskill Mountains and night clubs locally. John was a U.S. Navy musician during World War II and was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in North Greenbush. He enjoyed cooking, garage sales and spending time with his family. He was proud of his Italian heritage. Husband of 53 years of Harriet Groat Ranellucci of Troy. He has been the sole and primary caregiver to his loving wife and was also husband of the late Agnes Conlon Ranellucci. Roberts, Alfred Jim COEYMANS Alfred Jim Edgar Roberts, September 8, 2004, after a brief illness, has left this life he enjoyed so much. Jim was born in 1935 and, despite the depression and World War II, remembered his childhood with great fondness. After graduating from Port Jervis High School in 1952, he served in the U.S. Air Force. The three years of duty in West Germany during the late 50s were especially good times. Upon his return, he attended college at the University of N.D. and graduated with a bachelor of arts in 1962. Once back in N.Y., he found work with Albany County and then the N.Y.S. Department of Social Services. In 1963, he met and married Charlotte Jane Reed, the love of his life, and began raising a family. Over the next 40 years, he worked in state government and spent his free time with his family and the neighborhood children, teaching a generation the intricacies of baseball and softball. When he retired after 30 years of service, he spent the remaining years of his life doing what he loved, hiking with his dog, attending local sporting events and regional theatre and, most of all, the Saratoga Flat Track. His kindness, generosity and irreverent sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Special thanks to his dear companion, Lan Ying Fan. Jim was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Jane and survived by his brother, Henry Roberts; sisters, Helen Roberts-Grezka and Frances Lane; and his children, Kristine Valois and Kevin Roberts. Barbara was born in NYC and had been an Albany resident for the last 15 years. She received her master's in social work from the State University of New York at Albany. She had been a prevention social worker for Parson's Child and Family Center in Albany and was retired due to her illness. She is survived by her parents, a brother, nieces and nephews and her daughter, Rachel of Albany. Ezra (Mickey) Schwalb, age 94, of the Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, formerly of the Ohav Sholom Apartments on Krumkill Road in Albany, died Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the nursing home. Mr. Schwalb was born in Salem, Mass. and resided in the Metropolitan N.Y. area before relocating to the Capital District. While residing in N.Y., he was the proprietor of a hat store. He had also been employed for many years at the Albert Einstein Hospital in New York where he had been supervisor of the maintenance department. One of Mickey's favorite past times was listening to music. He will be remembered by his family for the wonderful stories he told. He was married to Betty Schwalb until her passing in 1990. He is survived by many adoring nieces and nephews and their children and his dear friend and care giver Fannie Bea Butler and her family of Albany. He was also predeceased by four sisters. She was born September 30, 1910 in Fulton, the daughter of James and Marie LaPorte Brannan. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1928 and Oswego Normal School in 1931. Olive was united in marriage to William J. Spargo on October 12, 1933 at St. Peter's Church; he died in 1963. She was a school teacher at Fort Stanwix and Barringer Schools, retiring many years ago. Olive was very active in community activities. She was a former trustee and council member of St. Paul's Church and former president of its altar rosary society. A former regent of Catholic Daughters of America and a member of Phi Kappa Phi Vega. She was a former board member and past president of the Rome City School District Board of Education, a former member of the board of directors foundation, Mohawk Valley Community College, board of directors, Oswego Alumni and a member of Rome Retired Teachers. Olive is survived by two sons, William J. Spargo of Bethesda, Md. and Thomas J. and Mary Ann Spargo of Albany; and seven grandchildren. Taylor and Margaret Humphrey Taylor. She retired in 1983 after 30 years of employment. Carole worked as a beautician in Albany and, for a short time, she worked as a real estate agent. She was a member of the Modern Maturity, Harvest Years and the Wyoming United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing crafts, artwork and reading. Mrs. Sutherland is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward M. Sutherland; her daughter, Donna L. Egerson and her husband Stan of Camden, Del.; her son, Jeal E. Sutherland and his wife Jenise of Schenectady; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew.
