Mildred Townsend Pregent, The Tag Lady, 98, of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, former long time resident of Riverside, Frog Island - Mechanicville and Clifton Park, died at her home on Thursday, September 16, 2004 after a short illness. Born in the Town of Stillwater on January 4, 1906, Mrs. Pregent was the daughter of the late Richmond and Mabel Stafford Townsend and widow of Raymond J. Pregent Sr. who died December 3, 1985 after 61 years of marriage. While her children were young, Mildred was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, very active in the community and schools. She held several offices in the Mechanicville Schools PTA and was a charter member of the Shenendehowa PTA. She was an active member of Old Troop 39 Boy Scouts of America from St. Paul's Church in Mechanicville and of the Clifton Park Girl Scouts. She was a charter member of the original Band Mothers Club of Shenendehowa Schools. She later worked for 22 years as a sewing machine operator in the former Barclay Home Products of Cohoes and retired from there. Mildred was a long time member of both the newly-formed Clifton Park Halfmoon Ambulance Corps and the Clifton Park Women's Fire Auxiliary and held many offices in both organizations. A charter member and former president of the Shenendehowa Senior Citizens, she was trip chairperson for three years. Her husband founded the Shenendehowa Senior Citizens Kitchen Band and for years together they entertained several audiences. They were both avid bowlers, fishermen and campers who loved to travel the country visiting their children and grandchildren. Over the years, Mrs. Pregent enjoyed making crafts but the one which gave her the most pleasure was making gift tags from used Christmas cards which family, friends and acquaintances from all over the world saved for her to use each year. Just for fun, she kept an actual count of the ones she made, which sometimes ran as high as 20, 000 in one year. As well as being used as gift tags by so many friends and relatives, the Corpus Christi Church Community used them each year to decorate the Giving Tree. Channel 10 did a feature segment about her and the tags; she was also featured in the local Catholic newspaper, The Evangalist. Mrs. Pregent was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Ushers, N.Y. since moving to Clifton Park from Riverside in 1947. She had previously attended St. Paul's Parish in Mechanicville, N.Y.
