Jason was born in Albany where he resided all of his life, recently moving to NYC. He was a graduate of the Colonie High School and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst this past May. He is survived by his father Lawrence Alfred of Guilderland and the late Risa Kaplan Alfred. Brother of David Alfred of NYC. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Roslyn Kaplan of Menands, N.Y.; and paternal grandmother, Madeline Alfred of Lenox, Mass. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Jason was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Sonny Kaplan and paternal grandfather, Leonard Alfred. At the request of the family, private graveside services will be held on Friday at the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, N.Y. Due to the upcoming Sabbath and the Yom Kippur Holiday, there will be no traditional period of mourning. Altieri, 54 of Bennington Vermont, formerly of Niskayuna, N.Y., died Monday September 13, 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born November 26, 1949 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended college at State University of NY Oswego and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Western State University, College of Law, in San Diego, California. He served in the US Air Force in the Vietnam War. Jerry practiced law in Schenectady, N.Y. working for the Schenectady County Public Defender's office and then opened his private law office practice in Bennington, Vermont. He also worked as an attorney for the State of Vermont for many years. Jerry is survived by his mother, Helen Gilbert; aunt Frances Thompson of Highland, N.Y.; his twin brother, Kenneth Altieri of Esopus, N.Y.; sister Marie (Altieri) Tyler and her husband Ron Tyler of Highland; his sister, Virginia (Vidge) Altieri and her partner Jill Johnson of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Kaitlyn Altieri and her mother Kristine Kelley of Niskayuna, N.Y.; and his son John Altieri and his mother Christina Altieri of Arlington, Vermont. Jerry is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Altieri, in 1989. Jerry will be remembered for his love and devotion to his children Kaitlyn and John, his unwavering sense of humor, his love for fishing and baseball and the N.Y. Yankees. TROY Mary Cunningham Bowles, 86, of Eighth Avenue, Lansingburgh, died suddenly September 21, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy. Born and raised in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Henry W. Cunningham and Anna Meingossner Cunningham and wife of the late Thomas E. Bowles Sr. who died January 29, 1973. Mrs. Bowles worked at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II. She later worked for the former Fennell Brothers Cleaners and retired from Matthew Bender in 1987 at the age of 70. She was a former communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Troy. Mary was devoted to her entire family, enjoyed family gatherings and was most proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, bocce and bingo. Survivors include her beloved children, Mary J. Maloney of Troy, Thomas E. Clark, 76, peacefully passed away Monday, September 20, 2004 at Albany Veterans Hospital. Mr. Clark was born in Watertown, N.Y. and was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy. He retired from NCR after 43 wonderful years of being a service district manager in 1989. Lee spent his last years very actively, dancing at least three times a week with his wife and spending much time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Lee D. and Helen (LaPatra) Clark. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian B. (Brown) Clark of East Greenbush; two daughters, Candace A. (Calvin) Gnage of El Campo, Texas, Cheryl A. (Bob) Martel of Voluntown, Conn.; two brothers, Graydon Clark of Banning, Calif. and Jerry Austin of Watertown. Lee was very close to his grandchildren, Pamela (Mike) Bailey, Angel (DJ), Kyle and Kimberly. Edwards, Diane GLENVILLE Diane Faux Edwards, 46, of Glenville, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, September 21, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Piscataway, N.J., she was a 1980 honors graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor of arts degree in English. She was raised in Blue Bell, Pa. and was a copy editor for the Judson Press in Valley Forge, Pa. prior to her 1981 marriage to her husband, John Edwards. Along with her husband, she was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Rexford and active with women's bible studies there. Diane was a tireless advocate for her children and an inspiration to her many friends who admired her quiet servants heart. Diane was an amateur genealogist, enjoying researching her Pa. roots, as well as an avid gardener, naturalist and birdwatcher. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Gregory and Kyle of Glenville; her parents, Wayne and Nancy Faux of Drums, Pa.; her brother, Jerry Faux of Cape Coral, Fla.; her brother, Mark Faux of Sellersville, Pa.; her sister, Lauren Miller of Drums; numerous nieces and nephews. Elzer, 78, of Guilderland, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Martin was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and moved to this area in 1967. He was co-owner of Lawless Container Corp. in Scotia and retired in 1991. Martin enjoyed reading and fishing. He was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Pinehaven Country Club. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Phyllis Yaggi Elzer; two daughters, Susan Mullen of Niskayuna and Jennifer Ruderman of Castleton-On-The-Hudson; two granddaughters, Katherine Zink and Elizabeth Zink. She was employed by the City of Albany and New York State for more than 30 years. She was also a veteran, having served in the Women's Army Corps and the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. Floody MD, 93, formerly of Wayne, N.J., died Monday, September 20, 2004 at his residence in East Greenbush after a lengthy illness. Dr. Floody was born in Albany and had been a resident of the Capital Region for several years. He was associated with Hoffmann-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals in Nutley, N.J. for over 50 years, and worked at the VA Hospital in Albany for several years. Doctor was a graduate of State College for Teachers in 1932 and a graduate of Albany Medical College in 1936. At the age of 15, he was the organist of the Hope Baptist Church in Albany, making him one of the youngest organists in the country at that time. He was member of the Branford Electric railways and Shoreline Trolley Museum in Connecticut. He was predeceased by his parents, William H. and Margaret (LeFevre Osborne) Floody; his wife, Lillian (Stanbury) Floody who died in December of 2002; a brother, Ralph W. Floody. Survivors include two daughters, Diane (James) Leyhane of East Greenbush, Jocelyn (Michael) Reid of Stevensport, Wis.; a son, Owen R. Gagliardi, 74, of Mountainview Avenue, Troy, at rest after a long and courageous battle with cancer in the midst of his loving wife Kay and family, Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He endured his illness with great courage and dignity. He loved all who so graciously cared for him. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Graziano Gagliardi and Irene (Zelenke) Gagliardi and husband of Kathleen A. Glenhoff Gagliardi. He had resided in Troy all his life and was educated at St. Mary's School in Troy and continued his education in the US Air Force. Mr. Gagliardi was employed as a truck driver for Chemical Leahman Tank Lines in the Port of Albany for 27 years, retiring in 1993, earning many awards including a 750,000 mile Safe Driver Award. He was a member of Teamsters Local 232. As an avid bowler until November 2003, he was a member of the American Bowling Association and the Senior 700 Club where he received many awards including the ABC Over 125 Series Senior Award. He was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War with the rank of staff sergeant stationed in Okinawa and the 810th Motor Vehicle Squadron Air Division at Briggs Air Force Base in Texas. Nick had a wonderful smile. He was confident and full of hope, loved life and spread love and joy wherever he went. His faithful companion, his German Shepherd, Betsy, was always at his side. He enjoyed music, art and woodworking; also his home, yard and garden. A Mr. Fix-it, he shared his talents with his neighbors and friends. Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Nichola W. (Tammy) Gagliardi of Troy and William E. (Juanita) LaPine of Durham, N.C.; three grandchildren, Lisa Marie Gagliardi-Smith and Nicholas W. Gagliardi II, both of St. Charles, Mo. and Kasandra L. Born and educated in North Adams, she was the daughter of the late John and Rhoda Greene. She was a graduate of the North Adams State Teachers College. She was a resident of Latham since 1943. Mrs. Irwin was an elementary school teacher in South Royalston (grades 1-4), later in the North Adams school district. She was a substitute elementary school teacher in the North Colonie school district, retiring in the late 1950s. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the church choir. She was also a member of Mended Hearts of Albany. Kowalczyk, Anthony C. SCHENECTADY Anthony C. Kowalczyk, 85, of State Street, passed away at home on Monday, September 20, 2004. An area resident for over 80 years, he was a graduate of the Scotia High School and later employed by WRGB Channel 6 as maintenance crew chief until his retirement in 1983. Anthony, Tony as he was known, was an original member of the US Army 10th Mountain Division Ski Patrol which he served in during World War II. Prior to the War, he was in the National Guard. His service awards include the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Tony was a life member of the 10 Mountain Division and greatly enjoyed attending their reunions. His other hobbies included reading/research, skiing and television repair. He is survived by his niece, Patricia and Robert Belden and their three sons, Joseph, Matthew and Andrew Belden, all of Rotterdam, and nephew, Reverend Philip A. LeBeau of West Milford, N.J. Lescinski, age 87, went home to the Lord on Monday, September 20, 2004. Born in Simpson, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Lescinski. Joseph was a graduate of Fell High School in Simpson. He attended St. Thomas College in Scranton, Pa. from 1935-36 and St. Bonaventure College from 1939-40. Joseph married Lucy Abate in 1941 at St. Gregory's Church in NYC (Manhattan). He served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1941-1945 where he attained the rank of 1st lieutenant. After World War II, he and his family settled in Albany. Joseph worked for 20 years at Textile and eventually became co-owner and also worked for 15 years at G.E. in Schenectady as a welder. Mr. Lescinski welded tanks at Alcoa from 1951-54 for the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a longtime usher and parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Loudonville. He is survived by his wife Lucy Lescinski of Colonie; his son, Joseph F. Lescinski of Nesconset, N.Y.; and his daughters, Ann Lescinski Akins of Portland Ore. and Sister Joan Lescinski, CSJ of Terre Haute, Ind. Madonna, Thomas GLENMONT Thomas Madonna, 83, of the Van Allen Senior Apartments, Rt. 9W, Glenmont, peacefully entered eternal rest after a long illness early Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. Born in Amsterdam on February 23, 1921, the last surviving child of Tomasso and Antonia Pollispo Madonna. Educated locally, he lived in Amsterdam until two years ago when he and his wife moved to Glenmont to be near his daughter. During World War II, he served with the US Army Air Corps in North Africa and the Asiatic Theater. He received the American Campaign Medal, and the Victory Medal. Tom worked for over 30 years for the federal government retiring in 1982 from the US Postal System in Amsterdam. A lifelong devout communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, he volunteered for over 40 years in many capacities within the parish. Tom served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, senior acolyte, on the annual spaghetti dinners as a chef, the festa committee and collection counter. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and as an accomplished woodcarver, he built many church appointments, including the pulpit and the sedia (celebrant's chair). Tom leaves behind his beloved wife and friend of 56 years, the former Antoinette Stanzione. They were united in marriage on July 18, 1948. His loving and devoted daughter, Michelle M. O'Reilly and her husband John of Glenmont; brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. His two canine pals, Murphy and Tilly will also miss him. A graduate of Mechanicville High School, Mr. Pangburn worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad as a locomotive engineer for 39 years before retiring in May, 1980. Mr. Pangburn served in the U.S. Army with the European Theatre during World War II. Pangie enjoyed golf, the horse races and a good card game. She was a 1943 graduate of the College of St. Rose, a member of the Wolferts Roost Country Club and was involved in many civic and community organizations throughout her life. ALBANY Ruth Evelyn VanDenbergh, 87, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Child's Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Albany. She was born in Albany, the daughter of the late John and Matilda Schramm VanDenbergh. Sister of the late C. Edson Vandenbergh. She was a graduate of Albany High School and resided on Benson Street in Albany. Ruth was senior stenographer to the regional director of the New York State Department of Social Services in Albany, retiring in 1979. She was a member of several area women's and bridge clubs and was an avid reader and traveler. Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law Martha Vandenbergh, Albany, nieces, Carol Albright, Selkirk and Ruth Lewis (Thomas), Castleton; nephew, Richard Vandenbergh (Claire), Castleton; three great-nephews, Adam Lewis, John and Louis Vandenbergh; one great-niece Elizabeth Lewis (Burak); and three great great-nephews. Weinlein (MiMi), 72, of the Village of Colonie, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 surrounded by her loving family at St. Peter's Hospital. She was born in New Salem, N.Y. on November 14, 1931 to the late Luther and Beulah MacMillen. Mrs. Weinlein was married on February 19, 1955 to Charles J. Weinlein Sr. She was a partner with her husband on many endeavors, including a Chrysler dealership, Weinlein's of Warrensburg. Mimi was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed life and was the life of the party. Marion loved playing the piano, singing, dancing and gardening. She was a talented artist. Mrs. Weinlein especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her loving husband, Charles, Mimi is the beloved mother of Laurie Weinlein, Lisa Reichelt and Charles J. Weinlein Jr. She is the sister of Beulah Nasner and Kathleen Audino. She is the cherished grandmother of Veronica Reichelt and Brandon, Jessica, Katelyn and Marisa Weinlein. He was born on March 16, 1942 to the late Euphemia and John Weldon Sr. He worked for McKinney Steel for 15 years and for Cross Gates Environmental Services for 10 years, where he retired in March of 2004. His hobbies were drawing cartoons and model cars. He enjoyed working on cars with his best friend, Dave and his grandsons. Frank loved music, his favorite past time was listening to his son-in-law, Drew, sing. He loved his cat, Misty. Frank was a caring, generous person who would always lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Frank is the husband of Donna; father of Donna (Drew) Polsun, Sandy Pierce, Rhonda Faignant, Kim (Jerry) Splunge, Ginny, Michelle, Frank Jr. and John and the late Denise.
