Cardillo CSJ, Sister Rose Marie LATHAM Sister Rose Marie Cardillo, CSJ, formerly known as Sister Anne Dominic, died on September 27, 2004 in St. Peter's Hospital, Albany. Sister was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., the daughter of the late Dominic and Anna M. Lambert Cardillo. She was in the 50th year of her life as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Sister was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy, Saratoga Springs; received a bachelor of art degree in biology from the College of Saint Rose, Albany; a master's degree from State University at Cortland and pursued studies at Trinity College, St. Louis, Mo. Sister Rose Marie taught in schools of the dioceses of Syracuse and Albany including St. Francis de Sales, Utica; St. John the Baptist, Syracuse; and Catholic Central High School, Troy. She ministered at the Family Life Bureau, Albany; Catholic Family Community Service as a social worker; and at Catholic Charities, Schenectady as program assistant. She served as religious education coordinator at St. John the Baptist Parish, Schenectady and at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Albany. Sister Rose Marie also served at St. Helen's Church in Schenectady as pastoral assistant and later as director of religious education. Sister Rose Marie is survived by three sisters, Joanne Walsh of Ballston Lake, Mary Ann Fitzgerald and Donna Wilcox, both of Saratoga Springs; and a brother, Dominic Cardillo of Saratoga Springs. The funeral will take place on Friday, October 1, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Chapel at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. Case, 79, of Littlebear Road, beloved husband of Elaine (Graulty) Case, died on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born on August 28, 1925 in Ithaca, N.Y., he was the son of the late Marcius E. and Martha (Crowell) Case. He was a graduate of Albany High School and Paul Smith's College where he earned his associates degree in hotel and resort management. Mr. Case was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during World War II. A sales professional most of his life, Mr. Case retired as a salesman from Hudson Pharmaceuticals in N.J. He had previously been employed by the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs where he was the sales manager. Mr. Case enjoyed a long affiliation with the Van Schaick Island Country Club as well as with the Shriners and Masons. Devoted father of Timothy H. Tim Case and his wife Susan of Cohoes and Patricia E. Tricia Case of Winter Haven, Fla.; cherished grandfather of Timothy M., Katherine A. and Alex J. Cohen, Martha ALBANY Martha Cohen, 82, passed away on Monday evening, September 27, 2004 after a long illness at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Martha (Mollie Lerner) was born in Havana, Cuba. She was educated, lived, worked and raised her family in the Bronx. She moved to the Capital Region in 1968 after a decade that she truly loved in Middletown, N.Y. She retired from NYS OGS. She enjoyed her retirement in Schenectady as an active participant and volunteer for the Senior Adult Program at the Schenectady Jewish Community Center and the Niskayuna Senior Center. She was acknowledged by the Schenectady County Office for the Aging for her volunteerism. Martha was a member of Congregation Gates of Heaven and loved being with her family. She was the widow of Harry Cohen and preceded in death by her son, Larry Cohen and brother, Seymour Lerner. Kenneth had been employed at the former Shop Rite store in Glenville, later known as the Great American store. Hemstead II, MD, 84, died Saturday, September 25, 2004 after a brief illness. Born in Albany, he was son of the late Dr. John L. and Elizabeth Bucknell Hemstead. He graduated from Albany Academy and Phi Beta Kappa from Union College. After graduating from Harvard Medical School, he served as Lt. JG in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Sampson Naval Base, where he headed the Naval Tuberculosis Clinic. His final posting was at Holloran Naval Hospital in Staten Island. Dr. Hemstead returned to Albany and served his residency under his longtime friend and mentor Dr. Richard Beebe at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He served on the faculty of Albany Medical Center for nearly 50 years and volunteered his time at the AMCH cancer detection clinic. Although in private practice, he always worked closely with his dear friend and colleague Dr. Ralph Reynolds. Dr. Hemstead continued his practice of medicine until 2003 when he retired. Jackson Sr., John David RENSSELAER John David Jackson Sr., age 66 years, of Highland Avenue, died on Monday, September 27, 2004 at his home with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Coles, Miss., he joined the Navy and came to visit his sister in Rensselaer and met his loving wife, Pat and they married in 1959. He worked at Knickerbocker Driveself for 22 years then Hertz, Mack Trucks, Levonian Bros. of Troy and Home Depot in East Greenbush. He was a commissioner for Rensselaer Pop Warner Football, manager of Rensselaer Little League and Babe Ruth. He also served on the board of directors for the Rensselaer Community Center and was a veteran of the US Navy. Dave was always a loving and caring person who always helped at the Northend Neighborhood meetings and also he was supporting and a silent partner for Pat's political endeavors. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the Yankees and Valley Cats. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Roberts Jackson of Rensselaer; dear father of John D. (Krista) Jackson Jr. of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Tina M. Rivenburgh (Charles Scolfield) of Rotterdam and Randy A. Jackson of Rensselaer; beloved grandfather of Holly J. Jubert Jr., Clement ALBANY Clement Jubert Jr. (Guy), 69, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at the Albany County Nursing Home. Born on January 4, 1935 in Troy, N.Y. he was the son of the late Clement Jubert and Dorilla Peltier Jubert. Clement served in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1961, leaving with the rank of sergeant first class. He volunteered as a Colonie Village fireman from 1964-1972. He was first chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau for the Village of Colonie. He retired from Albany Ladder Co. after 39 years. He was vice president and general manager of the Binghamton branch for five years. Survivors include Margaret Rappazzo Jubert, his wife of 50 years. His daughter, Kathleen (Kenneth) Davis of Nashville; his sons, Guy (Kathleen) of Colonie, John of Nashville, David (Leslie) of Gorham, N.H. and James of Guilderland; brother of Joan (Robert) Farrigan and Diane (Vincent) Catalfamo of Colonie; his cherished grandchildren, Christie, David and Mark Schardt, Guy Jr. Lisa, Elizabeth, Danielle and Jennifer Jubert. COHOES Kenneth David Lonczak, 49, a lifelong resident of Cohoes, passed away at his home on Monday, September 27, 2004. Born in Cohoes on October 19, 1954, Kenneth was the beloved son of Elizabeth Breton Lonczak Milgo (Mrs. Christopher Milgo) of Albany and the late Henry M. Lonczak. He was educated in the Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes and graduated with the class of 1973. He went on to further his education at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy from where he received his associates degree. In 1975, Kenneth served his country by entering the United States Air Force where he served at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. Following his honorable discharge in 1979, Kenneth returned home to Cohoes. He had been employed by Macaran Printed Products of Cohoes for over 24 years as plant manager. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Cohoes. Ken loved spending time with his family and friends at his home, especially in his backyard where he enjoyed entertaining and telling stories. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. He was the beloved husband, for 28 years, of Nancy A. Al resided in Troy all his life and attended Troy schools and was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1948, where he was an all city basketball and football player. Al was one of the initial inductees into the Edward C. Picken Troy High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Hudson Valley Community College and received his permanent teaching certification from SUNY Oswego/Utica/Rome. Al retired in 1991 after a 20 year teaching career as an electronics instructor for the Rensselaer/Columbia/Green and Albany County BOCES. During that time he touched the lives of countless students. He previously worked as the chief engineer for the Troy Radio Station WFLY for 21 years. He also worked for television station WTEN in Albany, and WPTZ in Plattsburgh. Al was a member of the City of Troy Electrical Board for 20 years. He was a member of the Troy Lodge of Elks, was a volunteer coach for the CYO Basketball League and Armory Little League. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church. Pickrell, Esther M. ALBANY Esther M. Pickrell passed away on September 27, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Amsterdam on September 2, 1943, she was the daughter of Dorothy Raasch Pickrell and the late Eugene H. Pickrell. Two brothers, Eugene Jr. and Robert and a sister, Caroline, as well as both sets of grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Caroline Raasch and Mr. and Mrs. Evan and Bertha Pickrell also predeceased her. Esther attended grade school at the Lutheran Four Corners one-room schoolhouse on Route 67, Fort Johnson, N.Y. until seventh grade. The remainder of her junior and senior high school years were spent at the former Perth Central School. Upon graduation, she attended college in Buffalo in a special curriculum geared toward nursing studies and radiological technology. She continued along that course of study at Albany Medical Center, St. Mary's of Amsterdam and Montifiore Hospital of New York City. Upon completion of the oral and written statewide and national exams, she began her medical career at the former Amsterdam City Hospital. Subsequent to that, she worked for various doctors in the Amsterdam area including Dr. Ballentine, Dr. Bertuch, Dr. Button and Dr. Rappello in the capacity of a physician's assistant, radiological technician, office manager and friend. After 20 years, Esther made a drastic career change and opened a discotheque. She chose to make that her career for the next 20 years. She retired in 1992 due to ill health. Besides her mother, Esther is survived by two dear cousins, William B. Hall Sr. and his wife Dorothy of Johnstown, N.Y. and Francis Duane Hall and his wife Marie of Fort Johnson, N.Y.; dear friends, Kathleen Kalmer and Kevin Leonard; as well as numerous cousins also survive her.
