ROTTERDAM Anna C. August, 92, of Princetown Road, Rotterdam, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005 of natural causes after a short illness surrounded by her loving children at C5 Hospice Wing at Ellis Hospital. Born December 30, 1912 in Cameron, Pa., Anna was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth McFadden and beloved wife of the late Nicholas P. August. Her family moved to Emporium, Pa. when she was six years old. There, she received her high school education and many business credits. She was employed as secretary to the clerk of courts of Cameron County, Prothonotary Mr. Moore, and was responsible for the recording of wills, deeds, death certificates, the counting of ballots and census taking. She loved music and played tenor saxophone as a member of the Emporium Excelsior Marching Band for eight years. This band competed with other town marching bands from Coudersport, St. Mary's, Warren, Olean and Bridgeway. It was in Emporium that she met and married her husband, Nicholas P. August of Schenectady. They were married at St. Mark's Church, February 25, 1935 until Nicholas' death on August 26, 2001. They moved to Schenectady in 1938. For many years, Anna was active in the P.T.A. and Home Room Mothers associations, holding all of the officer positions. She originated the first Teacher Recognition Day at Jefferson School. She was recording secretary of the High School P.T.A. She was an organizer for the music association and she helped start the gifted child committee. She and her husband Nicholas were instrumental in the school centralization efforts for Schalmont Central School. She chaired the fundraising committee that provided the first band uniforms for the Schalmont Central School Band. A member of Catholic Daughters of America C.D.A., she was the recording secretary of Court St. Catherine #128. She was the Red Cross Chairman of the Day for bloodmobiles and organized bloodmobiles for Rotterdam. Anna taught C.C.D. Catechism several years at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Princetown Road and volunteered for many of the church's benefits. She and her husband loved dancing and were participants of the Cotillion Ballroom dances in the 1960s. Sewing outfits for herself and her children was her forte. She will be remembered the most for her love of her family and for gathering them together at the wonderful meals she prepared. When she was 88 years old, she began learning to play the piano. Survivors include her daughter, Marie E. Petrarca (Robert Petrarca) of East Greenwich, R.I.; her son, D. Edward August of Schoharie; her son, Nicholas P. August Jr. (Marianne Farina August) of Schenectady; and her daughter, Marguerite A. Delaney (J. William Delaney) of Troy. She is the grandmother of Michele M. August of NYC, John T. and Marni Pedorella of Pelham, N.Y., Gregg E. August of Brooklyn, Joseph M. and Maria Pedorella of Blackstone, Mass., Jeffrey J. and Susan August of West Palm Beach, Fla., Dr. Christopher A. Pedorella of East Greenwich, R.I., Erica M. August of Schenectady, David E. Delaney of Hoboken, N.J. and Amy K. Delaney of NYC. Anna is great-grandmother to Charles Nicolas Beck Pedorella, Cristina Marie Pedorella and Ava Jules Pedorella. She is survived by many loved nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by her four sisters, Mary Durken, Ellen McFadden, Bridget English, Josephine Birney, and her brother, Edward McFadden; her sisters-in-law, Madeline (Nellie) Pasquarella, Emily August, Dolora McFadden; her brothers-in-law, Joseph Pasquarella, Joseph August, John August, John Mastroianni, John Bonifacio, James Durken, Erwin English, Chuck Birney; and her grandchild, A. Joseph Pedorella III. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Marguerite August, Ann Mastroianni and Mary Bonifacio of Schenectady. Joseph Anthony Bosco, 72, of Guilderland, died peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital, Thursday, August 25, 2005, with his beloved family by his side after a courageous fight against Leukemia. Born in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Anthony L. Bosco and Mary Salerno Bosco. Joseph was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School in New York City. He received his BA with honors from Ohio University, his master's from Seton Hall University in 1960 and his Ph.D from Teachers College of Columbia University in 1967, and was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Joseph taught English at Hackensack High School and Pascack Valley High School and in 1967 became an assistant professor in the education department at SUNY Albany. He retired in 1990 and stared Organizational Support Services, a consulting business evaluating educational programs. Most recently he was chancellor for the InterAmerican University, a position that had him traveling to China and other Far East countries, working with the U.N. to further education in third-world countries. He also taught at St. Rose and Bryant and Stratton. Joseph was a member of Christ the King Church. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a board member of Community Care Givers and a member of the Italian American Heritage Foundation. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Concetta Tina DiPierno Bosco; four sons, Joseph A. Bosco and his wife Amy of Irvington, N.Y., Paul N. Bosco and his wife Ann Marie of Guilford, Conn., Thomas R. Bosco and his wife Tamara of New York City and Andrew D. Bosco and his wife Kara of Pittsford, N.Y.; his brother, Anthony J. Bosco and his wife Hilda of Leonia, N.J.; two sisters, Grace Smith and her husband Robert of Hackettstown, N.J. and Donna Fina and her husband Michael of Winston Salem, N.C.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Elizabeth DiPierno of Manchester, N.J. Published in the Albany Times Union on 8/27/2005. Britton Sr., Ralph RENSSELAERVILLE, N.Y. Ralph Britton Sr., 86 years, of Rensselaerville, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital on August 25, 2005. He was born in the town of Westerlo on April 1, 1919, son of the late William and Cora (Peck) Britton. Ralph served in the U.S. Army from January 1941 through May 1945, and was a corporal in Company E 106th Infantry, 27th Div. He served three years in the Pacific, Majuro in the Marshall Islands, Battle of Saipan in the Marianas and Espirito Santo, New Hebrides. He received the Bronze Star and was given an award for Conspicuous Service by the State of New York. Following his military service, Ralph worked at the Huyck Mill in Rensselaer, N.Y. as a weaver. Ralph and his wife Magdalena, operated Britton's Soda Fountain in Rensselaerville, for nearly 20 years. He was postmaster in Rensselaerville for 26 years. Ralph was a charter member of the Rensselaerville Vol. Fire Co., serving as treasurer for 37 years. He was also a member of the Clark White Post American Legion for 57 years and a member of the 27th Div. Assn., Post 11 for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, caning chairs, refinishing furniture and bird watching. Family and friends were very important to him and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Surviving are his devoted wife of 59 years, Magdalena (Preisner) Britton; his loving children, Ralph Britton Jr. and his wife Patricia of Ravena, N.Y., Eileen Britton of Oakhill, N.Y., Diana Fritz and her husband Kenneth of Rensselaerville; his dear grandchildren, Brian and Michael Britton, Kimberly Henlin and her husband David, John Kotuc, Stephanie Stepp, Seth and Daniel Fritz. She was a cook and housekeeper for many years and worked for Rick's Tavern in Troy, Barberry Ice Cream Parlor, and lastly Evens/Baken Dental office. She loved doing cross word puzzles, sewing and crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family and her church family. She was a past member of Grace Methodist Church in Troy and the United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh. She was employed as a computer coder for Farm Family Insurance in Glenmont, retiring in 1979. Ruth was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church in Voorheesville. Ruth had a love for life and for her family that was unconditional. She was a great mother, a talented horticulturist and painter, but most of all, she loved making a home and bringing love to her family. Widow of the late James W. Mrs. Creagh was a devoted mother and wife of the late Rev. Elmer Creagh Sr. She was 98 years old and a resident of Albany. Family and friends who knew her affectionately called her Mother Creagh or Big Mama. Born in Selma, Ala., October 25, 1906 to Harrison and Sarah McCall. She was the youngest of seven siblings, one brother and five sisters. She was a devoted and loyal member of Wilborn Temple First C.O.G.I.C. Church family. She was distinguished as being the oldest mother of the church. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four sons. She leaves to mourn one sister, Gennie McCall of Mobile, Ala.; daughters, Gannie Sanders and Annie Lee Sledge of Schenectady, N.Y.; sons, AJ Creagh (Betty) and Willie James Creagh of Albany and daughter, Chaplain Eretta Lyons (Rev. He was born in NYC, N.Y., August 25, 1930, and was the son of the late Thomas and Alice (Bellneir) Henderson. During the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge. Prior to his retirement, he was a correctional officer with the Coxsackie Correctional Facility and also the Greene Correctional Facility for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann A. He was a 1938 graduate of Cohoes High School and attended Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. George had been employed at the Watervliet Arsenal for 25 years and retired in 1974. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the European Theatre during World War II. He was a former member of the Waterford Lions Club and the Colonie Elks Lodge. He is survived by his daughter, Dale A. Creighton and her husband William of Ridgefield, Conn. and his son, Mark L. Hinchcliff and his wife Jesse of Northville. Kistler, Robert L. COLONIE Robert Lance Kistler, 66, died on August 25, 2005 at home with his family and friends at his side. Bob was born on April 10, 1939 to Robert Henry Kistler and Ruth Little Kistler, both deceased. Bob graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy and Penn State University. He served in the Navy as an antisubmarine warfare/weapons officer and as an instructor at the U.S. Fleet Sonar School. While at Penn State, Bob was recruited by the New York State Health Department, where he worked from 1967 to 1995. Serving as a member of the commissioner's staff and as director of the institutional management group, Bob led the redevelopment of state hospitals, including two research medical facilities at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo and Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw. He also led the development of a multifacility nursing home program for New York State veterans. During Bob's tenure, all of these facilities were redeveloped and rebuilt. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Rosanne Aldwin Kistler; his devoted sons, Robert A. (Tamara) and Charles H. (Yukiyo); stepsons, Douglas Klein (Michelle) and Matthew Klein; grandchildren, Alexander Kistler and Lianne Kistler; and stepmother, Ruth Kistler. Bob retired in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, duplicate bridge and spending time with his family. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Leonard LaBombard. Mickey was a graduate of C.B.A., Class of 1954, and attended Russell Sage College. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. After serving his country, he was employed as a manager and salesman for Beach Nut Baby Food Co., then for the Ehler Spice Co. He ran Mick & Paul's Tavern in Cohoes for several years. After the tavern, Mickey was a lineman for the D&H Railroad and retired from the City of Cohoes as commissioner of the D.P.W. Mickey also worked part-time for the Cabot Cheese Company. He was a committeeman for many years in the fifth ward for the Democratic Party. He loved his N.Y. Giants, being with his family and spending time in Fla. Mickey was a member of the Cohoes Knights of Columbus Council 192, a 40-year member of Joe's Tavern Dart League, the C.B.A. Alumni Association and the American Legion E.T. Ruane Post. Mickey is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Dottie Hickey LaBombard; his children, Susan and her husband John Whynot of Houston, Texas, Michael and his wife Diane LaBombard of Cohoes, Bob and his wife Christine LaBombard of Troy, Debbie and her husband Tom Jacques of Cohoes and Matthew LaBombard and his fiancee, Kathleen of Cohoes. Mickey was the brother of Patricia Watson of N.J., Joan Rimawi of Delmar and Jean LaBombard of Albany; he was brother-in-law of Jack and Frank Hickey; also survived by 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. COHOES Frank A. LaPosta, 81, of Columbia Crest Apartments, died suddenly Thursday, August 25, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late John LaPosta and Madeline Cupolo LaPosta and husband of Betty Smith LaPosta for 59 years. A former longtime resident of Lansingburgh, he was a graduate of LaSalle Institute. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Mr. LaPosta was co-proprietor of LaPosta's Confectionery in Troy and LaPosta Bros. Markets in Speigletown and West Sand Lake for 40 years, retiring in 1986. Frank was a member of Lansingburgh Rotary Club, board of directors of Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club, former member of Troy Knights of Columbus and past grand marshal of the Uncle Sam Birthday Parade in Lansingburgh. Frank was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the sport kings. He enjoyed trips to the casinos and the activities at Columbia Crest Apartments. Latavitz, Zoe MENANDS Daughter of Charity Sister Zoe Latavitz passed away Friday, August 26, 2005 at St. Louise House. She was born in 1911 in Chicago, Ill. to Catherine V. Noroyta and John Latavitz. Sister Zoe grew up with her five brothers and four sisters. She entered the Daughters of Charity on December 31, 1929. Teaching in Utica Catholic Academy and Cathedral School, Syracuse were two of Sister's first assignments. After being trained as a nurse, Sister served in hospitals for more than 50 years. Three of the hospitals were named St. Mary's: Saginaw, Mich., Detroit, Mich. and Troy, N.Y. She also served in St. Margaret's Hospital, Boston, Mass. Her longest mission was at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport, Conn. where she was an occupational therapist and a member of the pastoral care department. Sister Zoe had many talents. The way she used her art and sewing talents brought great joy to others. St. Louise House welcomed her in 1999. Sister's surviving relatives include her sister, Josephine Riley of Timonium, Md.; devoted nieces, Angela McCann and Kathy Black, both of Berlin, Md., Joan O'Neal and Patty Cochran of Del. She was a longtime resident of the Town of New Scotland, recently relocated to sunny Florida. Ruth was born on February 14, 1929 in Albany and was the daughter of the late Albert and Emma Sebascus Heilman. Ruth worked as a clerk for the NYS Department of Civil Service for 36 years before retiring in 1995. Ruth loved the outdoors, especially the beach, boating on Lake George and spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Ruth is survived by her longtime life partner, Richard H. Manss; her children, Kathleen Kim Leonard of Buskirk, Denise Kip (John) Murray of Delmar, Martin P. (Beckie) Leonard of Scotia and Kelly A. Race, Olive GREEN ISLAND Olive Linda Race, 52, of Hudson Ave., Green Island, N.Y. died Friday, August 26, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with cancer with her loving family by her side. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Proctor and the beloved wife of William Race of Green Island. A lifelong area resident, Olive attended the Cohoes schools. She was employed for 10 years as a cashier at Eckerts Drug Store in Watervliet. Olive treasured and appreciated her relationships with her co-workers and customers. She was a smiling face that everyone recognized. Olive was a devoted and dedicated family mother and wife who brightened the lives of all around her. She was gifted in arts and crafts and enjoyed gardening. Olive also enjoyed visiting waterfalls and castles throughout the Northeast. In addition to her husband, Olive is survived by her loving daughters, Christine Olive LaPorte of Green Island and Jennifer Jean DeVoe of Latham; her adored grandchildren, Angel Lynn Sowalsky, Bailey Scott and Jacob Scott DeVoe; her dearest bother and sister, Leon Guilbeault of Clifton Park and Robin Duquette of Guilderland; her other siblings, Raymond J. Guilbeault Jr., Henry Guilbeault, Barbara Benson, Robert Proctor Jr. and Eva Alund. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
