ROTTERDAM Raymond E. Brown, 83, of Second Avenue, Rotterdam, died Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Ellis Hospital. Raymond was born in Watertown, N.Y. He was the son of the late Louis E. Brown and Georgia (Norman) Brown. Raymond was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He served in the Navy in World War II. Raymond was employed for eight years for the American Locomotive company in Schenectady. He was then employed for 30 years for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, retiring in 1978 as a supervisor in the large motor generator division. Raymond was a member of the Helderberg Reformed Church in Guilderland. He was also a member of St. George's Lodge F&AM, the Rotterdam Senior Citizens and the Helderberg Twirlers Square Dance Club. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by three brothers, Clifford Brown, Carlton Brown and Burdette Brown. Raymond is survived by his wife, Ethel Barton Brown of Rotterdam; two sons, Douglas R. Brown (Kris) of Scotia and Paul L. Brown (Mary Pat) of Zanesville, Ohio; also survived by four grandchildren, Laurie Brown, Tracy Brown, Jerry Brown and Aaron Brown. A memorial service will be Saturday 7 p.m. at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Helen was born in Germany. She was the daughter of the late John Bikowitz and Katherine (Laube) Bikowitz. Helen came to the United States in 1912 with her family. She was a homemaker. Helen was a member of St. Gabriel's Church in Rotterdam. She was a member of the Mont Pleasant Senior Citizens, the St. Paul's Church Senior Citizens and Girls Inc. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Emerich J. Dergosits, whom she married August 27, 1927. She is survived by two sons, Emery J. Dergosits of Colonie and Frank R. Dergosits (Marilyn) of Voorheesville; one daughter, Eileen F. Durrer of Colonie; one sister, Eleanor Draper of Westmere; also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Born in Albany, she had been a Castleton resident for nearly 60 years. She was the wife of George Dieckelmann and they would have celebrated their 59th anniversary in November. She was a 30-year volunteer at the Northeast Association of the Blind and was active in the women's guild at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Castleton. Besides her husband George, she is survived by two daughters, Nancy Carpenter of Castleton and Judy Dieckelmann (Dick LaFountain), also of Castleton; two grandchildren, Katherine Carpenter and Peter Carpenter. EAST NASSAU Mark D. Dwileski Sr., 60, of East Nassau, passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital, after a long illness, on September 29, 2005 with his loving family by his side. The son of the late Anthony and Julia Dwileski, he was born on September 21, 1945 in Albany. He had been a longtime resident of Rensselaer County. Mark was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed contractor, home designer/builder and welder, who was known affectionately for his cool hats. Mark had a passion for Arizona and enjoyed country dancing. He had an infectious sense of humor and always had a ready smile. He had a generous nature and his work enhanced the lives of many people in the Capital Region. Mark is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Maryann Dwileski, to whom he was married for 37 years; three sons, Mark D. Dwileski Jr. and his wife Christine of East Greenbush, Jeffrey W. Dwileski of North Chatham and Joseph B. A 1953 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, she was a resident of Latham from 1963 to 1993, when she and her husband Morris established a residence in Fla. and traveled throughout the country in their motor home. She was a clerical supervisor in the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany for nine years, retiring in 1990. Bernadine was a former communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Latham. Her family and church were very important to her. She also loved crafting and round and square dancing. She is survived by her husband, Morris A. Ketchum, of Boylan Rd., died on Wednesday, September 28, 2005, her 83rd birthday, at her residence after a long illness. Shirley had resided in the Averill Park area for the past 54 years and was a graduate of Cornell University with a B.A. in home economics. Prior to her retirement, she had been a teacher for BOCES and the Averill Park Schools for 25 years. Shirley had worked with the Averill Park Cooperative Extension, was a former member of the Latham Circle Squares and was a member of the Salem Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women in West Sand Lake. In spite of her advanced Alzheimer's Disease, Shirley remained at her home that she loved on Glass Lake. This was made possible through the devoted and loving care given to her by her husband Bob and her son Steve. Survivors include her beloved husband and caregiver, Robert M. Born in Troy, he is the son of Joseph Quell and his wife Sharon and Mary Smith and her husband Patrick. Mr. Quell was a resident of the Capital District for all of his life. John graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1981. He received his bachelor's degree from S.U.N.Y. Albany in 2001 and an associate's degree from Hudson Valley Community College in 2002. He was currently working on a master's degree. Mr. Quell worked for the N.Y.S. Department of Corrections for 11 years, from 1985 through 1995. John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and son. In addition to his parents, John is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Mary (Brophy) Quell. He is the devoted father of Shaun A. and Jennifer C. Quell. He is the loving brother of Joseph and Jeffrey Quell and Maria, Timothy and Michael Smith. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Eva Frank. She was a member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany. She participated for many years in Sisterhood, Abigail and Hadassah. She, along with her husband, founded the National Kidney Foundation of NENY in 1971 and worked tirelessly to help patients afflicted with kidney disease. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital. She was an avid golfer and a longtime contributing member of Colonie Golf and Country Club. In 1951, Ed and Rhoda Sperber started in business together with the purchase of Lansing Brothers in downtown Albany. In 1963, she played an integral role in the formation of Huckleberry Finn Pottery on Western Avenue and has continued to be active in the company's growth. Her family was her life and everyone that knew her, loved her. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Edwin H. Sperber; her adoring children, Barbara (Jim) Wittorff of Milford, Mass., Jeffrey (Charlotte) Sperber of Delmar, N.Y. and Reid (Susan) Sperber of Slingerlands, N.Y. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Wittorff and her husband Jim Lowe, Stacey Wittorff, Bryan (Stephanie) Staff, Lauren Staff, Ashley, Kate and Jordan Sperber.
