She was a homemaker and enjoyed her grandchildren and devoted her life to caring for, and the well-being of, her son Tony. Dorothy was a communicant of the Community Congregational Church, East Greenbush. Predeceased by her parents, Lyman and Gladys Sanford Winne; husband, George J. Battistoni Sr.; brothers, Franklin and Warren Winne. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich. on December 14, 1913, she lived for many years in Stephentown, N.Y. before moving to Colonie. Anna was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing lottery games. She also loved making all kinds of crafts. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Borszcz and beloved wife of the late William Bayba. She is the devoted mother of Patricia B. Taggart, William Z. Bayba Sr. and his wife Barbara and Paul E. Bayba. Anna is the cherished grandmother of Janis (Joe) Mitola, Bill Bayba Jr., Lori Bayba, Patricia Romano and Bobbi Jane (Steve) Benedict. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, David, Jessica, Brittany, Johnna and Alexandria. Also surviving is one sister, Catherine (Larry) Hayde and many nieces and nephews. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Lucas) Schlegel. Muriel grew up on Troy's 17th Street and could tell a story about every family on her block. She graduated from Troy High School and worked at the Watervliet Arsenal during World War II. She also worked at Montgomery Ward and, after a break of many years to raise her family and tend to her house and gardens, she retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance ten years ago. Muriel loved her time spent at camp on the lake in the Adirondacks. She is survived by her children, Nancy Matthews (Thomas) of Troy, Russell Haight (Susan) of North Greenbush and Gary Haight of Brunswick. Gram is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kelly and Nicholas Matthews and Russell, Adam, Samuel and Hannah Haight; her first grandson, Kevin Matthews, was awaiting her arrival in Heaven. Loerzel, 37, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born and raised in Albany, graduated from Albany High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Plattsburgh. Kurt was the owner/principal of Blue Lightning Technologies, which provided customized computer and business services to a number of local companies. He was a benevolent and caring person and was especially compassionate with the elderly. Kurt was forever curious and eternally tinkering with anything mechanical. Kurt will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his parents, Lorenz and Kathleen (Flanagan); his brother, Brian; a special cousin, Kelly Musco and her son, Remy Boyea. A large, loving family including many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survives him. Yvonne Published in the Albany Times Union on 10/8/2005. Provost Sr., David E. BRUNSWICK David E. Provost Sr., 86, a longtime resident of Brunswick, died Thursday, October 6, 2005. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Frank B. Provost and Jeanette Dufresne. He was the husband of the late Anna Katherine Byrne Provost, who predeceased him in November 1989 and the father of Bernard Thomas Provost who also predeceased him in March 1979. He was a lifetime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and a graduate of Sacred Heart School, LaSalle Institute and the Watervliet Machinist Trade School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in an arm of the 345th Bombardment Group for three years in the Southwest Pacific theater of operations. Mr. Provost served in the following battles and campaigns: Air Offensive Japan, Bismarck Archipelago, China, New Guinea, Northern Solomons, Southern Philippines and Western Pacific. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. At the time of his retirement from the arsenal in July 1974, he was manager of the production base support program in the industrial readiness division. Subsequently, he was employed by the N.Y.S. Department of Labor, industrial safety division. Mr. Provost was a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and, together with his good friend Leo McNamara, helped many people in need. He was formerly president for years of NARFE. He was an avid gardener and bird watcher and a simple man with simple pleasures. Most of all, he loved his family. Survivors include a son, David E. Provost Jr. and his wife Kathy of Brunswick; his two daughters, Marianne Feldman and her best friend Mike of Troy and Janet Anthony and her husband Lou of East Poestenkill; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, with one on the way and several nieces in Calif. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Pauline Huskie and Mildred (O'Brien) Smith. Ray was born May 27, 1937 in Ogdensburg to the late Rayfield and Audrey Rondeau. Ray was the beloved husband of Joan Harris Rondeau. He was the father of Sheila Rondeau and Darryl Rondeau of St. Louis, Mo. and Lawrence Rondeau of Waterford. Ray is brother to Joan Logan, Rick LaFlair, Larry LaFlair and Paul LaFlair. Rossi, Antonio James SCHENECTADY Antonio James Cataldo Rossi, 91, of Rosa Road, formerly of Sanders Avenue, Scotia, died Thursday, October 6, 2005 at home after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Frank and Julia (D'Orio) Rossi. A retired contractor and owner of several area motels, James was the owner of James Ross Paving in Schenectady before his retirement. He was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia. Survivors include three children, Angelina (Rossi) Chamberland and husband Lawrence of Schenectady, Frank Rossi and wife Rose Marie of Ballston Spa and Patricia Rossi of Schenectady; a sister, Elizabeth Carhuff of Schenectady; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. COBLESKILL Arthur W. Rumph Jr., 78, of Eden Park Healthcare Center, died Friday, October 7, 2005 following a long illness. Mr. Rumph was born April 7, 1927 in New York City, the son of Lucy May (Knapp) and Arthur W. Rumph Sr. Mr. Rumph was a self-employed contractor and had owned Schoharie County Construction Corp. in Schoharie for many years. He lived in Cobleskill for the past 42 years. He had served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946 and the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1947 to 1950. Mr. Rumph was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5088 of Cobleskill. Survivors include three sons, Arthur K. Rumph Sr. of Coblekill, Bruce A. Rumph of Sloansville and Craig S. Rumph of Middleburgh; four sisters, Janet Olauson and Doris Wilkins, both of New York City, Edith Belisario of Brooklyn and RuthAnn Mosher of Calif.; two brothers, George Rumph and Edward Rumph, both of Calif.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Barbara Bunny Coyne Ryan, 67, died September 23, 2005 at Whittier. Born in Troy, N.Y. to the late John Coyne and Evelyn Filuta. Sammons, 91, of Carrie Street, entered eternal rest Friday afternoon, October 7, 2005 at her home with her family by her side. Rose was born in Schenectady on January 10, 1914, the daughter of the late Francesco and Robina Dorazio Candela. She lived on River Street until 1919, when the family purchased the home on Carrie Street. Rose was educated in Schenectady then worked for the American Laundry, the General Electric Co. during World War II and later as a homemaker and caretaker. Rose was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a 68 year member of the Sacred Heart League. She loved bowling and was a member of the Afternoon Belles at Boulevard Bowl until she was 82. Rose was also an avid gardener and loved to travel. Beloved wife of the late Patrick Sammons, whom she married in 1942 and he died in 1988. Survivors include her loving son, Robert J. Sammons and his wife Susan, of Colonie; devoted grandmother of Robert M. Sammons and his wife Pamela, of Colonie; sister of the late Vito and Patrick Candela. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday morning at 10 a.m. from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Mrs. Widdowfield was a life member of the Delmar Progress Club, a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, in which she held various positions, an avid bridge player and a member of the Wednesday-Thursday Bridge Club. She received the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award from Albany-Rensselaer County. Ethel enjoyed knitting and read a book every day.
