Avery, 73, died on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Estelle is the devoted and loving wife of Dorman F. Avery. She died while they were holding hands. Daigneault, 74, died at his residence in Cohoes, October 10, 2005, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was born in Waterford and graduated from Keveny Memorial Academy and Hudson Valley Community College. He was the son of the late Rainey and Anna Mae McLinden Daigneault. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Cohoes and belonged to the activity club. He was a scout leader and an avid bowler and golfer. After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, he selflessly dedicated himself to provide emergency services through his extensive knowledge of radio communication. He was a licensed amateur radio operator for 40 years, having a call sign of WB2ZCM. He was a member of the Albany Amateur Radio Association, ARRL member and belonged to Albany County RACES. After retiring with 35 years of service from the NYS Public Service Commission, he then began his most enjoyable time: being committed to the caring for the needs of his many grandchildren. Elbow, 85, retired Professor Emeritus of history and tireless advocate for international understanding, died at Albany Medical Center on Saturday, October 8, 2005. Dr. Elbow was born and educated in New York City, earning a BA (1940), an MA (1941) and a Ph.D. (1949) in History from Columbia University. His subsequent teaching career included positions at Hunter College and NYU in New York City, Beirut College for Women (now Lebanese American University), Robert College in Turkey and the State University of NY at Albany, where he was a full time faculty member from 1947 to 1990 and received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Elbow maintained a global focus throughout his life, advocating for international understanding and peacemaking, especially in the Middle East, traveling extensively and broadening the horizons of many students he mentored. Among his numerous community and professional activities, his leadership roles in the Albany chapter of the United Nations Association of America and at Westminster Presbyterian Church stand out. He challenged family, friends, colleagues and students to deepen their understanding of our global community and work toward world peace. In recognition of his efforts, he received the James and Pearl Campbell Peace and Justice Award from the Capital Area Council of Churches and most recently a Capital District Senior Issues Forum 2005 Senior Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Elbow is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Meg) Boulton Elbow; daughters, Margaret Elbow Conn and Susan M. Elbow; sister, Jane Oppenheim. A cancer survivor who developed heart disease from chemotherapy treatment, JP received a heart transplant in 2003 and then returned to school and was a proud member of Catholic Central High School's Class of 2004. Born on July 20, 1915 in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Aldo and Josephine Ceccucci Federici and attended Sacred Heart School in Cohoes. Mr. Federici was an Army Air Corp veteran having served during World War II. For 50 years, Mr. Federici was a cabinet maker at Troy Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturing in Troy. He was a member of Brunswick #1 Volunteer Fire Co. and was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Sycaway. He had worked as a carpenter for many years and also as a security guard. He was a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his cherished wife of 55 years, Antoinette (Ann) Sabatino Fragomeni and his beloved daughter, Ann Marie Mannolini. Gerrity Jr., Joseph W. LOUDONVILLE Joseph W. Gerrity Jr., 89, died Monday, October 10, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Newton, Mass. and had resided in the Albany area for many years. He had maintained homes in Loudonville, Lake Placid and Malapan, Fla. Joe was a graduate of the River School, Brookline, Mass. and Harvard College, Cambridge, Mass. 1938. He was an area developer and horse breeder. He developed Robinson Square in Downtown Albany, operated the Little Farm in Kinderhook and was the former president of the Gerrity Lumber Company of Albany. He was a former president of Child's Hospital and former chairman of the board of Saratoga Gaming and Racing Commission. Joe was an amateur driver of race horses and one of his horses won the Breeder's Cup at Yonkers Raceway. His hobbies included horses, baseball, politics and practical jokes. He was the longest standing member of the Fort Orange Club, Albany, the Reading Room, Saratoga and Schuyler Meadows Club, Loudonville and was a member of the Coral Beach Club, Bermuda. Joseph was the husband of the late Phyllis Gerrity and is also survived by six children, Richard Gerrity of Dameriscota, Maine, Robert Gerrity of Chatham, Daniel Gerrity of Brookline, Mass., Nancy Achilles of Front Royal, Va., Susan Chase of Baltimore, Md. and Cynthia Holland of Rowayton, Conn.; also 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was an entrepreneur and owner and operator of several the former JG's Pizza in Albany, Jeff's Pizza in Albany, Jeff's II in Rensselaer and EJ's Pizza in Colonie. At the time of his passing he was the proprietor of Jeff's 3 Pizza Restaurant in West Sand Lake, N.Y. He was instrumental in helping establish businesses for friends and peers by choosing business sites and training them to achieve success. He was an inventor and had obtained several patents over the years on his creative ideas. Jeff was known to be spontaneous in his actions and will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his practical jokes. He enjoyed fishing and had a great love for his family property in Nassau as he considered it his sanctuary. He enjoyed traveling throughout Florida and especially enjoyed the Keys. He is survived by his loving parents, Beatrice and Lou Goldman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; loving father of Jenny and Melissa Goldman of Rensselaer; cherished brother of Leslie Gardner and Ken Goldman, both of Nassau, N.Y. Lafferty, 90, of Shepherd Drive, died suddenly Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Troy, he was son of the late Edward and Margaret (Fahey) Lafferty and husband for 59 years of Viola Kachadurian Lafferty. He had resided in Troy and North Greenbush all his life and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in North Greenbush. Mr. Lafferty was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for many years. He loved his family and country and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, stationed in Germany and France. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Mr. Lafferty was an avid hunter and fisherman, two passions he passed on to his grandsons, Lane and Brad. Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter, Sharon Zugalla of Troy; three grandchildren, Lane Zugalla of Troy, Brad Zugalla of Colo. and Beth Anne Zugalla of N.C.; and a sister, Mary Lafferty of Albany. Robert Bruce Lamb, DVM, of Halfmoon, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a long struggle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late Paul and Gladys Griffith Lamb, who were of Hamilton, N.Y. Bob graduated from Hamilton High School and the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 1961. After Cornell, he practiced veterinary medicine in Middletown, N.Y. for two years before he entered the Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Minot, N.D., and was honorably discharged as a major. After his service in the Air Force, Dr. Lamb practiced at the Capitaland Animal Hospital in Latham. He then opened his own practice in Boght Corners, N.Y. where he owned and operated the Boght Veterinary Clinic for over 20 years. For the first one-and-a-half years, Dr. Lamb worked in his own home while building his veterinary hospital. There, he and his wife took care of the animals with much love and attention. At Christmas that first year, they had 12 animals in the house including two puppies tied to the dining room table. At one time, Bob had the largest practice in the area, with five veterinarians working with him. He was an active communicant of St. Mary's Church in Crescent. He was a member of the parish council, a member of the ministry to the elderly and the ministry for human service. He had been a committee member of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) at St. Mary's. Bob's focus throughout his life was to care for the poor and the homeless and his beloved animals. At Cornell University, he organized a clothing drive for the Hungarian refugees. While he was practicing in Middletown, he set up a soup kitchen at the Baptist Church. For the last 20 years, he served the poor and the homeless at Bethany Hospitality Center in Troy. Every Wednesday for 15 years, he picked up baked goods at Price Chopper and delivered them to the Bethany Center and then cooked the luncheon meal. He was a past president and board member of the Bethany Center for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Mohawk Post 1450 in Halfmoon. Bob was a member of the board of directors of the Schenectady Animal Shelter. A gourmet cook, he loved spending hours over special recipes, most of them by Julia Child. His other love was his home in Dorado, Puerto Rico. He is the beloved husband of Mary Lou Grady Lamb; brother of Kenneth Lamb (Dorothy) of Hamilton and Barbara Doing (William) of Earlville, N.Y.; he is also survived by his beloved dogs, Smurf and Poncho; and his nieces and nephews, Neil and Beth Lamb, Paul and Kim Lamb, all of Hamilton, Michelle and Jeff Reese of Earlville, Richy and Louise Doing of Raleigh, N.C. and Christy Pierce of Oxford, N.Y.; also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews. Lindemann, 83, of Cohoes, died Sunday, October 2, 2005 after a brief illness. Lucca, 57, died peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, October 10, 2005 after a short, courageous battle with lung cancer. Jim was born in Schenectady on March 23, 1948 to Anthony Lucca and the late Mona Griffith Lucca. He graduated in 1966 from Mohonasen High School, later earning a bachelor of arts degree in history from St. Francis College in Biddeford, Maine. Jim continued his graduate work at the College of Saint Rose where he attained a master's degree in special education. Jim was in the process of pursuing his doctoral degree in the field of educational administration. At the time of his death, he was the Director of Federal and State Programs for the Schenectady City School District where he formerly held the position of Director of Special Education. His greatest focus was his family and friends and his pleasures were simple-leisure time with family or a round of golf with friends. He took great pride in raising his sons and watching them grow into happy and successful adults. During his sons' childhood, he spent endless hours providing guidance and volunteering in Niskayuna's student athletic and recreational programs, specifically, the lacrosse and soccer programs. His enthusiasm and sense of fairness was inspiring for those he led. He had a special love and respect for the outdoors, especially the Adirondacks where he enjoyed countless hours with family and friends. He married Linda (Starsiak) Lucca on July 20, 1973. Jim and Linda had recently celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary. Roberts, Lois Mills ALBANY, N.Y. Lois Mills Roberts, 91, passed away peacefully of heart failure at Albany Memorial Hospital on September 29, 2005 with her youngest son at her side. Lois lived a spirited and colorful life, growing up on farms of Colo. and Texas, the youngest child of Emma and Jonathan Mills. She was the last survivor of the family of nine children. Her fondest childhood memories were of watching her mother prepare family meals using kettles in an open fireplace. Those early days became the subject of many tales shared with her friends and relatives in a Texas drawl that always remained with her. Lois moved to Loudonville in 1950 with her husband, Dr. Stiles M. Roberts, and her two sons, Stiles and Scott. Dr. Roberts retired as director of research at GAF. She was a talented homemaker, seamstress and gardener, and retired as an admitting clerk at Albany Medical Center. She maintained her feisty country spirit throughout her nine decades. In her final years, she steadfastly fought multiple health problems in order to live at home and get out whenever possible to enjoy her garden in the sunshine, lively visits with friends and neighbors, and her beloved church, Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a devoted member at Trinity for more than 60 years. Lois leaves behind two sons, Stiles of Texas and Scott of Loudonville. In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren, Rudy of Fla., Terry of N.C. and Christopher of Calif., three great-grandchildren; many nephews, nieces; and in-laws. Winthrop Parsons Stevens Jr., age 78, of Wilmington, passed away quietly on October 11, 2005 at home. He was born on December 11 1926 in Albany, N.Y. to Winthrop Parsons and Doris Sturgis Stevens. He attended the Albany Academy and graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. in 1944. He was in the Army and participated in the occupation of Japan. He attended Yale University and graduated in 1950 in chemical engineering. Winthrop married Margaret Lyle Smith of Charleston, W. Va. on June 21, 1952. He was employed by the E.I. DuPont Company at the Belle Works near Charleston, W. Va. where he retired after 35 years of service in several plant locations and in the employee relations department in Wilmington. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. An enthusiastic music lover, Winthrop sang with the Wilmington Barbershop Chorus and enjoyed jazz music. An avid sailor, he was a member of the Wilmington Power Squadron where he taught several courses. He was a member of the DuPont Country Club and counseled entrepreneurs and those in small business for many years with the Service Corps of Retired Executives. A son, William Huyck Stevens, predeceased him. In addition to his wife of 53 years, survivors include a son, Winthrop P. Stevens III and his wife Anne of Landenberg, Pa.; a daughter, Eliza Stevens Gow and her husband Christopher of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and two grandsons. Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Leon and Stefania Wojnar. He was a Schenectady resident for most of his life. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving eight years and the Army National Guard, serving 17 years. After retiring in 1999 from the N.Y.S. Education Dept., Bob realized his dream of a cabin in the Adirondacks, where he and his wife spent the summer months. They wintered in Arizona. He was a member of the Sun City Elks #2559. Mr. Wojnar was an avid outdoorsman and a talented woodworker. Bob is the beloved husband of 39 years to Deborah E. Wojnar. He is the devoted father of Gregory F. Wojnar of Rotterdam and Nicole D.
