Born in Troy on January 18, 1944, he was the son of Sarkine Vartigian Akullian of Watervliet and the late John Akullian who died in 1980. A graduate of Watervliet High School, Mr. Akullian had also attended Hudson Valley Community College and was retired from the state department of motor vehicles where he was employed for over 30 years. Mr. Akullian was a lifelong member of the Watervliet community and, in addition to his family, will be especially missed by those who enjoyed his company at Bob's Diner on 19th Street in Watervliet, where he was a regular patron. Mr. Akullian was a sports fan and especially enjoyed baseball and the former Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a founding member and organizer of the Watervliet Men's Softball League. In addition to his mother, Mr. Akullian is survived by his sister, Charleen Akullian of Boston, Mass; his uncle and aunt, Ralph and Ann Vartigian of North Greenbush; and several cousins. Born on November 18, 1938 in Clarksville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Clarabel Morey Appleby. She worked for 19 years for the Albany County Department of Social Services as their switchboard operator. She was a former member of the Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her children, Alma Cole (Bob) of Albany, Barbara Leonard of Tallahassee, Fla., James B. Whitten Jr. (Donna) of Homossa, Fla., Robert C. Case, 79, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2005 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Theresa received her B.A. from the then-NYS College for Teachers at Albany in 1948. After employment at General Electric, she received an M.S. in elementary education from the College of St. Rose and, afterward, a master's of library science from SUNY Albany. She was a teacher at Draper School and subsequently a librarian for the Schenectady City Schools. Theresa established the first library at the Schenectady County Community College and later became an associate in school library services for the NYS Education Department until her retirement in 1985. Theresa's vibrance, humor and love of life were reflected in her abundant interests, which included reading, US and European travel, home decorating, the New York Yankees, fashion, gardening, Broadway shows, the NYC Ballet and thoroughbred horse racing, especially at Saratoga Race Course. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, the NYC Ballet Guild and the ladies auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Davis, 77, of Vero Beach and East Greenbush, N.Y., died peacefully July 27, 2005 with her family by her side at VNA Hospice House after a prolonged illness. She was born July 9, 1928 in Cooperstown, N.Y. and she had been a winter resident of Vero Beach since 1988. Pat was church administrator for the First United Methodist Church, East Greenbush for 17 years before her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and active with Girl Scouts of American and Little League in East Greenbush. She created a loving home for her family and friends. Her time spent in the kitchen, cooking and baking, will be a lasting memory to all who ever had the opportunity to share one of Pat's wonderful meals. Pat enjoyed hobbies of candle making, knitting and sewing. She appreciated nature through her love of roses, pansies and cardinals. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Felice and Vincenza (Ravida) DiSanto. Mr. DiSanto was an Albany resident for all of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. Joe had 49 years of service with Sterling Drugs/Winthrop Laboratories before his retirement. He was an active member of the Italian American Community Center where he was a past president and past vice president. Mr. DiSanto was a proud member of the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association, Wednesday Squad. He enjoyed photography, camping and traveling. Joseph is the beloved husband of 42 years to Anna M. (Rao) DiSanto. He is the devoted father of Joanne Ferri and her husband Scott of Stillwater, Joseph DiSanto Jr. and his wife Gina of Rotterdam, Michele Celello and her husband Paul of East Greenbush and Lisa Cooper and her husband Jeff of Albany. Ginsburg, Marvin COCONUT CREEK, Fla. Marvin Ginsburg passed away on Friday, September 2, 2005. His beloved wife of 60 years, Judith, and his four children, Howard Ginsburg, Riva Rittberg, Fran Ginsburg Wolf and Sheri and Zohar Mantzoor were at his side. Marvin leaves 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who loved him and who were loved by him, as well as his sister, Lea Baruch, and three nephews. Marvin was a cattle dealer and farmer for 50 years. A Holocaust survivor, he distinguished himself in the struggle against the Nazis. He was a valiant and highly decorated war hero who saved numerous lives. Marvin was credited with dynamiting and derailing 17 German trains, a number of key bridges and an electric generation plant. Born into a large family in the Belorussian town of Iwje, Marvin came to the US in 1949 and has always cherished this country. He was a systems analyst with the health department and later the NYS Department of Transportation, prior to retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Melvin Roads Post 1231 in East Greenbush. He was an avid poker player and loved the casinos. Mrs. Hutchins was an art teacher for several years at the Albany Girls Academy. She was a member of the Third Reformed Church and was active with the Women of Third. Mrs. Hutchins was a former member of Normanside Country Club in Delmar and the Aurania Club of Albany. She was an excellent artist and a talented knitter. An avid golfer, she was the first woman to make a hole-in-one at the Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie. Wife of the late Mason C. Kennedy, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2005 following a long illness. Mr. Kennedy was born on September 21, 1927 in Lake Placid, N.Y. to George and Marion Kennedy. He was educated in Lake Placid Schools and served in the Navy in World War II aboard the Escort Carrier USS Core CVE13 with the sixth fleet in the Pacific. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he resided in Schenectady, N.Y. Mr. Kennedy was a master plumber and steamfitter with Local 105 from 1947 until his retirement in 1989, working most recently at the General Dynamics at the Kesselring site in West Milton. Mr. Kennedy was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church in Rotterdam, N.Y. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, George Kennedy, and four sisters, Doris Kennedy, Anita Kennedy, Frances Gadway and Charis LaLonde. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Geraldine Fancher Kennedy; his four loving daughters, Sylvia Heiner (Paul) of Saratoga Springs, Diane King (Richard) of Rotterdam, Cynthia Cheney (Charles) and Ramona Carson (Russell) of Niskayuna; nine grandchildren, Paul J. Heiner, Mark T. Heiner, Brian King, Barry King (Heather), Tamara Reed (Andrew), Jamie Lemm (David), David Adams, Janelle Pfister (Robert) and Julie Riccio; four great-grandchildren, Milan Pfister, Anthony Pfister, Nylah Adams and Arianna Reed; also survived by two brothers, William Kennedy of Syracuse, Jack Kennedy of Wis. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 8:15 a.m. at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady followed by a Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church, Hamburg St., Rotterdam. Noeth, 94, of Utica, passed away Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Hospice Care Inc., Siegenthaler Center. Mary was born in Albany, N.Y. on August 15, 1911, a daughter of Joseph and Helen Paluba. In Albany on April 24, 1931, she married Carl J. Noeth. Mr. Noeth passed away in 1983. For many years while she lived in Albany, Mary was employed at the Washington Card Shop. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Utica. Mary is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Julie Noeth, Utica and Gerard and Frances Noeth, Pittsford, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and spouses, Donna E. and Rich Moll, James J. and Fleur Noeth, Mary L. and Stan Wuest, William R. and Mary Lou Noeth, Jon C. and Angie Noeth, Terry A. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late James Penders and Rhea Girard Penders. A former Cohoes and Waterford resident, she lived in Mechanicville for the past 15 years. Thelma was a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal for eight years, retiring in 1978. She also worked at the arsenal during World War II and was a homemaker for most of her life. Thelma was an avid bowler for many years at Troy Bowl and Alpha Lanes. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church, Stillwater. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Watson (Peter) of Saratoga Springs, Beverly P. Nash (Thomas) of Tamarac, Fla.; two sons, Lloyd J. Prescott (Susan) of Speigletown and Torrance F. Prescott (Laurie) of Schaghticoke; a sister, Benita Blanchard (John) of Cohoes and Fla.; 11 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two nieces. Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., October 20, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Isabella (Hurst) Armstrong. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl E. Silvernail, and her brother, Barton Armstrong. Mrs. Silvernail moved to Valatie in 1942 from Ogdensburg to work as a waitress at the Rainbow's End Restaurant. She also worked for the Kleeber Agency in Valatie as a secretary. After her marriage to Earl, she became a full-time wife and mother. She was a lifetime member of the Alan DeVoe Bird Club in Chatham and a 50-year member of the First Reformed Church of Chatham. Some of her favorite interests were birdwatching, flowers, animals and reading. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Silvernail (Harold Usyk) and Roxanne Powell, both of Valatie; three grandsons, William Tutton and his wife Cindy of White Hall, Md., Owen Powell (Rachel Cohn) and Warren Powell, both of Valatie; one niece, one nephew and grandnieces and nephews and great-grandchildren. She also lived in Saratoga Lake for 25 years. Mrs. Tate was a homemaker most of her life. She also owned and managed student housing in Troy for many years. She was a former communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Survivors include, four sons, John H. Tate, Jr. (Dorothy) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Robert D. Tate (Diane) of Center Brunswick, David A. Tate (Gina) of Otego, N.Y., and Ralph P. Tate (Jean) of Middle Grove, N.Y., a sister, Mary Foy Carter of Latham, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Floretta was predeceased by her husband John H. Tate, Sr., who died in 1983, and her long-time companion James J. Fucci, who died in 2000, her brothers, Raymond Seguin, Jr., and Lester Seguin and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Dorothy Tate.
