He was the son of the late Jacob and Yeranik Akullian. Born in Troy, N.Y., he moved to Albany in 1926. He was educated at Albany High School, Union College and Albany Business College. He served in World War II in North Africa in 1943 as an Army Air Force navigator with the rank of captain. From 1945 until 1961, he served as president of Grand Cash Markets of Albany, when he resigned to pursue a career as a real estate broker. Ed was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was a life member of Wolferts Roost. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marion (Hanley) Akullian; his daughter, Lark Akullian Capra and her husband Nicholas Capra of Wilmington, N.C.; his sister, Nevart Akullian Macer of Calif. and his brother, Arthur Akullian and his wife Agnes of Fla. and ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Edward Akullian Jr. Edward donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College. Private funeral services at the convenience of the family. Bills, a lifelong Capital District resident passed away in his Sanctum Santorum after a long illness. Born in Troy, the second son of Joseph and Anna Bills, Nelson graduated from Catholic Central High School and also attended the Cornell School of Labor Relations. He served his country honorable as an United States Marine with combat tours of duty in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic and the Republic of South Vietnam. In 1977, Nelson enlisted in the New York Army National Guard and in 1980 entered the Active Guard/Reserve Program. He retired in 2001, having attained the rank of sergeant first class. During his service with the New York Guard, he was assigned to the Mobile Recruiting Force where he held the positions of recruiter, Retention NCO and Training NCO. Nelson's final assignment was a marketing and advertising manager. Nelson had also been employed by the D & H Railroad, Niagara Mohawk, Tobin Packing Co., Burns International Security Services, Inc. as security supervisor for Siena College, and at CDTA. While at CDTA, he became the first loan officer for the Federal Credit Union and later served as president of the credit union. Nelson, a man of many talents, demanded the best from himself and others and refused to accept any less. His many friends will miss him dearly, especially his acerbic wit which was so treasured and enjoyed by all of us. We know, however, that his dearest Audrey was waiting for him impatiently and that they are now both at peace together. Nelson was predeceased by Audrey Hoffman Bills, his beloved wife of more that 26 years; his parents, Joseph and Anna Bills; his first wife, Janice Ropelewski and his brother, Joseph Bills. Surviving are his sisters, Mary Patricia Bills of Fla. and Jo-Anne Bushnell of Troy; his brothers, Thomas and John Bills; his fourth brother and best friend, Bill Varian; three nieces and four nephews. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Marilyn Beasley. Mrs. Booth was an Albany resident for all of her life. She worked for the Center for the Disabled for 27 years. Mrs. Booth enjoyed cooking and listening to music. She was the beloved wife of the late William Booth. Rita is the cherished sister of Ruth Davis of Albany and the late Willie Beasley Jr. She is the devoted aunt of Denise Beasley and her son, Jahkiem Jacobs and Ralph Beasley and his daughter, Shatasha Beasley, all of Albany. She was a loving wife and mother and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church where she was a member of the altar rosary society. Jean was born in South Glens Falls, moved to Calif. where she lived for 30 years, then came back to New York in 2002. She was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, had worked for the NYS Legislature and retired after 27 years of service with Beckman Instruments in Calif. Jean enjoyed fishing, slot machines, bowling, poetry and choir. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Orlo M. Brees; her parents, Allen and Isabel (Smith) Gregory; and seven siblings. Deblois, Sr. Anna MENANDS Daughter of Charity Sister Anna De Blois died Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at St. Louise House. Sister Anna De Blois was born in 1916 in Frankfort, N.Y., the daughter of Camille and Mary Curley DeBlois. Sister grew up in Utica with her six brothers and a sister. She entered the Daughters of Charity and celebrated her 70th year of vocation in 2004. For 38 years, Sister was an educator in elementary schools in Reading, Pa.; Washington, D.C.; Roland Park, Md.; Baltimore, Md.; Johnson City, N.Y.; Bridgeport, Conn.; Emmitsburg, Md.; Richmond, Va.; Wheaton, Md.; Boston, Mass.; Utica, N.Y. In 1972, Sister began her second career in St. Margaret's Hospital, Dorchester, Mass. as the director of volunteers. She remained there for 21 years before moving to Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, Pa. St. Louise House welcomed her in 1996. Sister was noted for her welcoming smile and generosity. Her brother, Peter De Blois and sister-in-law Margaret of Utica as well as several nieces and nephews survive Sister. Healy, a lifelong resident of Troy, died peacefully Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Springs in South Troy, where she had resided the last three years. Born in 1907, she was the daughter of the late George Eagle, a pharmacist, and Kathryn Sheehan. Isabel was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. As a young woman, she was employed by the former Manufacturers National Bank of Troy and later at Whalen's, a soft drink bottling plant, which was owned and operated by a former mayor of Troy. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Troy and lived most of her life as a homemaker at 167 Hill Street. In more recent years, she had resided at Colonie Manor in Latham and Woodland Village in Troy before taking up residence at The Springs. She was the widow of Thomas F. Healy Jr., who died in 1969. She was predeceased by her brother, George Eagle. Isabel is survived by two sons, Joseph R. Healy and his wife Sylvia of Clifton Park and Howard T. Healy of Guilderland, who is the editorial page editor of the Times Union newspaper, and his wife Anne Marie. She is also survived by a daughter, Janet Stevens and her husband Brian of Latham. Isabel is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Healy of Clifton Park, Annice A. Healy of Manhattan and Kara and Brian Stevens, both of Latham. Heath, Gerald E. WEST COXSACKIE Gerald E. Heath, 79 years, of West Coxsackie, N.Y., passed away suddenly at the Albany Medical Center on September 6, 2005. He was born in Coxsackie, N.Y. on April 4, 1926, the son of the late Willard and Edith (Foster) Heath. Gerald was an auto mechanic and metal polisher having worked for several auto dealers and tire distributors in the Albany area and for Greenville Polishing in Greenville, N.Y. An avid guitar player, he had played in local bands when he was younger. He also loved camping, bird watching and nature. He was known to always having something to do, either for himself or helping others. He will be missed by his loving family and his many friends. Konig (nee Mary Grace Canty) quietly and peacefully left all who knew and loved her, Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Eddy Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes. Grace was born November 22, 1918 in Watervliet, N.Y. to the late James and Mary Canty. She was predeceased by her husband and partner, Frank H. Konig, whom she married June 30, 1947. Grace worked 32 years at Burdick and Son and retired from Albany Medical Center after nine years of service. There will be a void in the lives of her brother, Joseph P. Canty Sr. and his wife Irene and his former wife, Norma. She was predeceased by her brother, William. She will be truly missed by her nieces, Linda J. Canty (Joseph Lounello), Marilyn Oliver (George) and Maureen Buechner (Thomas) and nephews, Joseph P. Canty (Darla) and David Canty (Sharon). She was great aunt to Noah, Courtney, Stephanie and Cassandra. She will be forever missed by her good friends, Wilda and Robert Carson and Judy Schampier. Grace was loved by everyone who came in contact with her. It was impossible not to: she always had a sparkle in her eyes and always a kiss to give. Leonardo, James ALBANY James Leonardo passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 in the Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital at the age of 87. Born in Mass. on July 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Pellegrino and Raffaele Febraio Leonardo. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lillian. Jim lived the majority of his life in Albany, where he was a bartender for over 40 years. He also worked for the Albany County Department of Aging. He was a lover of the game of baseball, a game he played in the Albany Twilight League as a young man. An avid fan of the New York Yankees, his love of the game was only exceeded by his love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Lena Pruesser and Mildred Leonardo; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Jennie Leonardo, Jim and Lynn Leonardo, Bill and Carole Leonardo and daughter and son-in-law Sue and Pete Valente. He is also survived by eight grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Pops. They are Chris and his wife Heather, Kevin, Caryn, Paul, Chad, Matt, Allie and Christine. Abraham Chaim (Hy) Levy, 80, of Brooklyn and Boca Raton, Fla., died September 7, 2005 after a short, gallant struggle with ALS, at home in Brooklyn. Born in Jerusalem, Hy immigrated to the United States at age 12, along with his parents and six sisters. A peaceful and peace-loving man, Hy served his nations proudly in times of crisis, in the US Army in World War II and in the Israeli War of Independence. Hy was married for almost 54 rich and productive years to Mildred (Glaser). Hy was active in the Bnai Brith, Young Israel of Bedford Bay and served for many years as the president of Kings Bay II cooperative apartments. At age 40, Hy became a proud college graduate after entering the teaching force in the New York City public school system, where he used his skilled hands and generous heart in making industrial arts a favorite class for young people in the South Bronx and Coney Island. After retirement, Hy and Mildred moved to Fla., where they continued to give and to benefit from the people around them. They volunteered at the West Boca hospital and sang in the Yiddish Folk Chorus of Palm Beach County. Hy was a lifelong athlete, reaching the semi-pro ranks as a soccer player and excelling at tennis. Hy's proudest accomplishment was his work as a founding member of Congregation Torah Ohr in Boca Raton. Hy's proudest connections were to his family. His memory will be a blessing to Efrat Frayda Levy and Dan Bernstein of Albany, to Steven and Beena Levy of Morristown, N.J., to Rachel Levy, Jaime Levy, Dara Levy-Bernstein, Jacob Levy, Meirav Levy-Bernstein, Revital Levy-Bernstein. Born May 2, 1911 in Schenectady, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter Smith and Grace Fronk Smith. Donald and his beloved wife, Gertrude E. Smith, recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary among family and friends. Mr. Smith was a devoted father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his wife and three daughters, Linda Rubin, Sandra (Bill) Preston and Gayle Smith (Matt); seven grandchildren, Michael Marinello, Brian Rubin, Wendy Mapstone, Suzanne Sicard, Beth Preston, Jessica and Rebecca Friedman and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Jared Rubin. Mr. Smith is also survived by his brother, Rev. Harold Smith of Ohio, and his sister, Thelma Schoneich of Schenectady, N.Y. He was predeceased by his siblings, Oakley, Grace and Margaret Smith. Mr. Smith served in the US Army during World War II in central Europe from November 1943 through December 1945. He retired from Niagara Mohawk as Northeast purchasing agent after completing 35 years of service. Mr. Smith, a lifelong resident of Voorheesville, was a communicant of the Voorheesville First United Methodist Church. He was also an avid sports fan and a frequent spectator of many of his grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed cooking and gardening and, for many years, participated in maple sugaring in Vt. with his daughter. His kindness and generosity were always present and his home was the center of many joyous family gatherings. He will long be remembered for his enormous heart and caring and loving ways.
