Born in Watervliet on November 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles William Sr. and Anna Murphy Ashline. He attended primary school at St. Brigid's School in Watervliet and was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy (CBA). After working in various family businesses, he acquired his apprenticeship in plumbing and established Charles W. Ashline Plumbing and Heating, Inc. in 1958. Charlie was a dedicated business owner who took pride in the company he built, the work he did for his customers and his hometown of Watervliet. He was also proud of the camp he built on Burden Lake for his family to enjoy. Charlie was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #7, Watervliet Elks #1500, Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce and was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church in Menands. He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Margaret Kelly Ashline of Loudonville; his three sons and daughters-in-law, William C. and Colleen Ashline of Watervliet, Robert P. and Cynthia Ashline of Schenectady and Paul F. and Olga Ashline of Brunswick; his sister, Anna M. (late Robert) Passonno of Watervliet and his brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Carole Ashline of Pittstown; his eight grandchildren, Jennifer, William, Jami, Bryan, Melissa, Alea, Jina' and Sara; four great-grandchildren as well as many devoted cousins, nieces, nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 76 Menand Road in Menands where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Jean was born in South Glens Falls, moved to Calif. where she lived for 30 years, then came back to New York in 2002. She was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, had worked for the NYS Legislature and retired after 27 years of service with Beckman Instruments in Calif. Jean enjoyed fishing, slot machines, bowling, poetry and choir. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Orlo M. Brees; her parents, Allen and Isabel (Smith) Gregory; and seven siblings. Deblois, Sr. Anna MENANDS Daughter of Charity Sister Anna De Blois died Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at St. Louise House. Sister Anna De Blois was born in 1916 in Frankfort, N.Y., the daughter of Camille and Mary Curley DeBlois. Sister grew up in Utica with her six brothers and a sister. She entered the Daughters of Charity and celebrated her 70th year of vocation in 2004. For 38 years, Sister was an educator in elementary schools in Reading, Pa.; Washington, D.C.; Roland Park, Md.; Baltimore, Md.; Johnson City, N.Y.; Bridgeport, Conn.; Emmitsburg, Md.; Richmond, Va.; Wheaton, Md.; Boston, Mass.; Utica, N.Y. In 1972, Sister began her second career in St. Margaret's Hospital, Dorchester, Mass. as the director of volunteers. She remained there for 21 years before moving to Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, Pa. St. Louise House welcomed her in 1996. Sister was noted for her welcoming smile and generosity. Her brother, Peter De Blois and sister-in-law Margaret of Utica as well as several nieces and nephews survive Sister. Duffy, Eugene QUEENSBURY Eugene F. Duffy, formerly of Middletown, N.Y. and a resident of Queensbury, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at home. He was 73. Mr. Duffy was born October 21, 1931 in Carbondale, Pa. to Eugene Duffy and Katherine Campbell. He was a retiree of the Bethlehem Central School District in Delmar, N.Y, where he served as district supervisor of English/Language Arts, K-12 from 1971-1991. Mr. Duffy was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1950. He graduated from Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y. in 1952. He received his B.A. in English from New York State Teachers College at Albany in 1954 and his M.A. in English in 1957. During 1969 and 1970, he took graduate courses in administration and supervision at New York University and SUNY New Paltz. He received his permanent certificate in administration and supervision in 1971. Mr. Duffy began his teaching career at Pine Bush Central School in Pine Bush, N.Y. from 1954 to 1956. He worked as an English teacher in Newfield, N.Y. from 1956 to 1957. He then became an English teacher at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Central Valley, N.Y. and remained there from 1957 to 1971. He became the district coordinator of English from 1967 to 1971. He was also an instructor of English at Queen of the Apostles College in Harriman, N.Y. from 1966 to 1967. During this time, he also served as an associate professor of English, evening division at Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y. During his tenure at Bethlehem Central, he also served as an adjunct professor in educational theory and practice at the State University of New York at Albany from 1984 to 1991. He served as a judge for the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards for Writing from 1971 to 1977. Mr. Duffy also served as a consultant for the New York State Education Department, Bureau of English Education in Albany, N.Y. from 1970 to 1991. During his career, Mr. Duffy received awards for his outstanding achievements. In 1989, he received the New York State English Council Excellence in Teaching Award. In 1990, he received the Award of Honor from the National School Public Relations Association. During 1989 to 1990, he received the Who's Who in American Education Award. He was a member of the National Council of Teacher of English Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and was also a member of the National Education Association. Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Adams Duffy of Queensbury, N.Y. They married on December 26, 1959 at the Sacred Heart Church in Monroe, N.Y. Mr. Duffy is also survived by two sons, William J. and his wife Monica, and grandson Owen, of Queensbury and Thomas M. and his wife Jennifer, and grandson Jason, of Webster, N.Y. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas and his wife Janet of Circleville, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Duffy was predeceased by a son, Eugene, and his parents, Eugene and Katherine Duffy of Middletown. Fitzgerald, 94, died at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. Mary was a communicant of St. John's Church in Rensselaer for over 60 years. She had been a member of the altar society for many years. In 2001, she was recognized as the oldest active parishioner. She was employed at Huyck's Felt Company and the Fort Orange Paper Company and returned to Huyck's in her later years to work in the cafeteria. Mary loved to play poker and pinochle and loved gardening. She was also an avid bingo player and wouldn't miss her Sunday afternoon bingo game and hamburger with lots of fried onions. In her later years, Mary volunteered at the Rensselaer Senior Citizen's Center, helping out making and serving dinners. She loved to watch baseball games whenever they were on and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. Mary raised her family on East Street in Rensselaer. Every Sunday, anyone was welcome to her famous pancake breakfast and every 4th of July there would be a big party in her yard for all her friends and family. Mary was a loving person who always helped all those who needed it. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Mary E. and Joseph Smith; her husband, James Fitzgerald; and her daughter, Mary E. (James) Manning. She was the last living member of her siblings, predeceased by her three sisters, Anna Smith, Sophia (Bill) Spring and Alice (Eben) Hickey; and her six brothers, Ed Smith, Joseph (Vera) Smith, Jack (Ann) Smith, Frank (Frances) Smith, Steve (Violet) Smith and Charles (Marieann) Smith. Mary leaves behind her daughter, Patricia Hogan (David) Whitford of Rensselaer; six grandchildren, Donald (Patricia) Hogan of Watervliet, Kathleen (Allen) Gough of Cedarbrook, N.J., Diane Hogan (Duane Bailey) of East Greenbush, Dawn (Louis) Giancamello of Caldwell, N.J., Patricia Hogan of Slingerlands and James (Diane) Hogan of Watervliet. She also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, Meaghan and Bridget Hogan, Michael, Roxanne, Christopher and Julie Gough, Jaclyn, Louis and Amanda Giancamello and Travis and Jennah Hogan. Healy, a lifelong resident of Troy, died peacefully Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Springs in South Troy, where she had resided the last three years. Born in 1907, she was the daughter of the late George Eagle, a pharmacist, and Kathryn Sheehan. Isabel was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. As a young woman, she was employed by the former Manufacturers National Bank of Troy and later at Whalen's, a soft drink bottling plant, which was owned and operated by a former mayor of Troy. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Troy and lived most of her life as a homemaker at 167 Hill Street. In more recent years, she had resided at Colonie Manor in Latham and Woodland Village in Troy before taking up residence at The Springs. She was the widow of Thomas F. Healy Jr., who died in 1969. She was predeceased by her brother, George Eagle. Isabel is survived by two sons, Joseph R. Healy and his wife Sylvia of Clifton Park and Howard T. Healy of Guilderland, who is the editorial page editor of the Times Union newspaper, and his wife Anne Marie. She is also survived by a daughter, Janet Stevens and her husband Brian of Latham. Isabel is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Healy of Clifton Park, Annice A. Healy of Manhattan and Kara and Brian Stevens, both of Latham. She was born in Wessington Springs, S.D. and lived in Ga. for 30 years. Phyllis was a resident of the Capital Region for the past 12 years. She was a Magicienne with the Magic Act of Torrini & Phyllis and was one of the last acts to perform at the Palace Theatre on Broadway in NYC. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Delmar, N.Y. and a member of the Georgia Flower Club. Predeceased by her parents, Albert C. and Magdalina (Heihrs) Schaefer; her husband, Jesse Jordan; a daughter, Marilyn Jensen and her son-in-law Russell; and a sister, Madelyne (Ralph) Marion. He had resided in Wellington for the past three years and served as the director of safety and security for the Jupiter Medical Center. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., his family moved to Scotia, N.Y. in 1966. Scott received his bachelor's degree in communication arts, magna cum laude, from the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y. He worked at the Department of Tax and Finance in Albany, where he met his future wife, Barbara. They moved to Pensacola, Fla. in 1989, where he worked at Sacred Heart Hospital as the safety manager. Scott is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his mother, Janet Kiddle; brother, David Kiddle and his wife Carol; sister, Laurie Boucher and her husband Gus; three nephews, Jason and Andrew Boucher and David Kiddle Jr. Scott was a wonderful son-in-law and a very special brother-in-law to his wife's three sisters and their families. Leonardo, James ALBANY James Leonardo passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 in the Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital at the age of 87. Born in Mass. on July 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Pellegrino and Raffaele Febraio Leonardo. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lillian. Jim lived the majority of his life in Albany, where he was a bartender for over 40 years. He also worked for the Albany County Department of Aging. He was a lover of the game of baseball, a game he played in the Albany Twilight League as a young man. An avid fan of the New York Yankees, his love of the game was only exceeded by his love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Lena Pruesser and Mildred Leonardo; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Jennie Leonardo, Jim and Lynn Leonardo, Bill and Carole Leonardo and daughter and son-in-law Sue and Pete Valente. He is also survived by eight grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Pops. They are Chris and his wife Heather, Kevin, Caryn, Paul, Chad, Matt, Allie and Christine. Nacy, 82, of Halfmoon, died September 7, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Albany. Born August 29, 1923 in Victory Mills, he was the son of the late William and Rose Nacy. He was also predeceased by a son, Leonard T. Nacy II; a sister, Elizabeth J. Krapman; a brother, William Nacy Jr. He has lived in Halfmoon for the past 40 years. Mr. Nacy was in the Army during World War II. He was a field medic and fought at the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. Leonard received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Service and Good Conduct Medals as well as the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Nacy worked as a food broker for 40 years before working for the Saratoga County Tax Map office from 1979 to 1983. Then he worked for the Town of Halfmoon in the property tax office from 1983 to 1994. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Crescent and was the coordinator of Eucharistic ministers for six years, a Eucharistic minister for 20 years at Bishop Hubbard Apartments, past treasurer of Halfmoon Senior Citizens, member of Glens Falls VFW for the past five years, member of Schuylerville American Legion for the past 40 years and a member of Disabled Veterans in Troy for the past 10 years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joan M. Nacy of Halfmoon; two daughters, Leann J. Nacy and Rosann Anthony; one grandchild, Emily Penistan, all of Halfmoon; several nieces and nephews. She was born February 25, 1914 in Johnstown, N.Y., graduated from Johnstown High School and Broadalbin Teachers Training School. Katharine was a longtime resident of Schenectady and Niskayuna before moving to Coburg Village. She worked many years in the knitting factories of Johnstown and Schenectady. Later, she worked as house mother to students at Ellis Hospital School of Nursing and in other departments at Ellis. After retirement, she traveled extensively to many parts of the world including the British Isles and Europe, Egypt and Israel, Australia, New Zealand and China. Devoted to her church, Immanuel Lutheran, she was active in choir and various committees. Widow of Arthur J. Nitchman. Predeceased by daughter, Dawn Nitchman Dawson. Survivors include sons, Peter P. Nitchman and his wife Patricia of Plaistow, N.H. and Arthur P. Nitchman and his wife Ellen of Niskayuna; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Plattsburgh and has been a resident of Rensselaer for 15 years. Mr. Provost was employed as a truck driver for Aiello Produce. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Pete was an avid bingo player and fisherman and ran his own fruit and vegetable stand. Swertinski, 81, of Sunset Drive, Speigletown, died Thursday, September 8, 2005 at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Frank S. Swertinski and Mary Stochowitz Swertinski and husband of Dolores Patolino Swertinski of Speigletown. A former Lansingburgh resident, he was a 1942 graduate of Lansingburgh High School. They resided in Speigletown for the past 46 years. He served his country with the 5th Air Force in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Swertinski was co-proprietor of Pat's Supermarket in Speigletown for 20 years. He later retired in 1986 from General Electric Turbine in Schenectady. After retiring, he worked part time at Pollock's Home Center in Brunswick. He was a former active member and past officer with the Speigleaires Drum and Bugle Corps and former member of the Speigletown Volunteer Fire Co.
