Mary was a communicant of St. John's Church in Rensselaer for over 60 years. She had been a member of the altar society for many years. In 2001, she was recognized as the oldest active parishioner. She was employed at Huyck's Felt Company and the Fort Orange Paper Company and returned to Huyck's in her later years to work in the cafeteria. Mary loved to play poker and pinochle and loved gardening. She was also an avid bingo player and wouldn't miss her Sunday afternoon bingo game and hamburger with lots of fried onions. In her later years, Mary volunteered at the Rensselaer Senior Citizen's Center, helping out making and serving dinners. She loved to watch baseball games whenever they were on and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. Mary raised her family on East Street in Rensselaer. Every Sunday, anyone was welcome to her famous pancake breakfast and every 4th of July there would be a big party in her yard for all her friends and family. Mary was a loving person who always helped all those who needed it. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Mary E. and Joseph Smith; her husband, James Fitzgerald; and her daughter, Mary E. (James) Manning. She was the last living member of her siblings, predeceased by her three sisters, Anna Smith, Sophia (Bill) Spring and Alice (Eben) Hickey; and her six brothers, Ed Smith, Joseph (Vera) Smith, Jack (Ann) Smith, Frank (Frances) Smith, Steve (Violet) Smith and Charles (Marieann) Smith. Mary leaves behind her daughter, Patricia Hogan (David) Whitford of Rensselaer; six grandchildren, Donald (Patricia) Hogan of Watervliet, Kathleen (Allen) Gough of Cedarbrook, N.J., Diane Hogan (Duane Bailey) of East Greenbush, Dawn (Louis) Giancamello of Caldwell, N.J., Patricia Hogan of Slingerlands and James (Diane) Hogan of Watervliet. Forbes, 70, died suddenly Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Portsmouth, N.H., she is the beloved and dedicated daughter of Mary Chillemi Forbes and the late Earle G. Forbes Sr. She lived in Albany most of her life. Rosemary worked for many years in management at JC Penney's Credit Offices in Albany and then transferred to Philadelphia, Pa. She returned and began working for the State Employees Federal Credit Union (SEFCU) until her retirement. Rosemary cared more about others than herself and her family was her life. She also made various contributions to many charities. She was an advid believer in St. Jude and helping those in need. She was the beloved sister of Karen R. She was a Magicienne with the Magic Act of Torrini & Phyllis and was one of the last acts to perform at the Palace Theatre on Broadway in NYC. ALBANY Philip Martin Luther, MD, age 87, after a long illness, passed away and entered eternal life with his Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2005. Son of the late Rev. Philip M. and Daisy Luther. Philip served during World War II in the Army Medical Corps, both in North Africa and Italy. After attending Albany Medical College, he became a pathologist and was employed by Bender Lab and later St. Peter's Hospital until his retirement in the early 1980s. A lifelong man of faith, he served in many capacities, especially at St. Matthew and St. Paul Lutheran Churches in Albany as congregational president, Sunday school superintendent and choir member. Philip was a talented violinist who, with his wife Lois on piano, volunteered their efforts for several years in retirement and nursing homes. He also had a keen interest in art and drawing and a love of books. He is survived by his wife Lois, to whom he was married for 56 years; sons, Jack Luther of Menands and Philip F. Luther of Albany; daughter, Susan Smith of Round Rock, Texas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Wiedemann of Glenmont and Mary Kay McCann of Colonie; also survived by several nieces, nephews and their families. Nacy, 82, of Halfmoon, died September 7, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Albany. Born August 29, 1923 in Victory Mills, he was the son of the late William and Rose Nacy. He was also predeceased by a son, Leonard T. Nacy II; a sister, Elizabeth J. Krapman; a brother, William Nacy Jr. He has lived in Halfmoon for the past 40 years. Mr. Nacy was in the Army during World War II. He was a field medic and fought at the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. Leonard received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Service and Good Conduct Medals as well as the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Nacy worked as a food broker for 40 years before working for the Saratoga County Tax Map office from 1979 to 1983. Then he worked for the Town of Halfmoon in the property tax office from 1983 to 1994. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Crescent and was the coordinator of Eucharistic ministers for six years, a Eucharistic minister for 20 years at Bishop Hubbard Apartments, past treasurer of Halfmoon Senior Citizens, member of Glens Falls VFW for the past five years, member of Schuylerville American Legion for the past 40 years and a member of Disabled Veterans in Troy for the past 10 years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joan M. Nacy of Halfmoon; two daughters, Leann J. Nacy and Rosann Anthony; one grandchild, Emily Penistan, all of Halfmoon; several nieces and nephews. She had lived in Cohoes before moving to Nassau in 1965. She had worked as a clerk for Fashion Care in East Greenbush for 23 years, retiring in 1996. Born in Baltimore, Md. on January 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Donald and Laura (McCarthy) Spaulding. Don was a graduate of West Catholic High School and Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa. On October 10, 1971, he married Mary Smythe of Fort Edward. Don retired from the New York State Tax Department. He also retired from the U.S. Army and National Guard after 30 years of service. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Usher where he was a member of the homebound ministry and an usher. Don enjoyed reading and riding his bike. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his twin brother, John Spaulding. Survivors include his wife, Mary (Smythe) Spaulding of Ballston Lake; two sisters, Mary McNichol and her husband Thomas of Pa., Ann Tanner and her husband Walter of Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Steele died Friday, September 9, 2005 at his home in Speigletown, Town of Schaghticoke, N.Y., where he lived for 33 years. He was the son of the late John G. and Fannie Slater Steele. The love of his life, Mary Kawola Steele, and his first-born son, the Rev. James D. Steele, have greeted him on his journey to heaven. Mr. Steele is survived by his children, Marie T. and John Callahan of Stillwater, Elizabeth A. and Dr. Wasyl Terlecky of Dayton, Ohio, John D. Steele and Bernadette of Charlton, Joseph D. Steele and Regina of Stillwater, and Jerome D. Steele and Kathleen of Clifton Park. Poppie Steele cherished his 20 grandchildren, John Steele, Maria Steele Matrazzo, Matthew Steele, Joseph Steele, Christie Steele Garland, Michael Steele, Jason Steele, Martin Callahan, Mary Callahan Cozzi, Steven Callahan, Janet Callahan, Kateri Callahan Perkins, Justin Callahan, Monica Callahan, John Callahan, Anna Terlecky Clarke, Wasyl Terlecky, Andrew Terlecky, J. Steele and Alexandra Steele as well as his 16 great-grandchildren and his special friend, Ruth Carrol. Mr. Steele's siblings include his sister, Alice and her husband Richard Center of New Port Richey, Fla.; his sister, Betty and her husband Robert St. Pierre of Kissimmee, Fla.; and his brother, Gordon and his wife Marion of Mechanicville. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Steele Ransom. John Boice Steele was born in the Brickrow in the Village of Schaghticoke on June 4, 1916. He attended Schaghticoke schools through high school, leaving in 1933 to serve his country in the Civilian Conservation Corps in California and Idaho. After his service in the CCC, he worked for 35 years for the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company in Mechanicville as foreman of the electrical department. In 1976, he became plant engineer for Mohawk Paper Mills in Cohoes from which he retired in 1982. In his retirement, he spent many years with other veterans of the Civilian Conservation Corps commemorating CCC projects at Five Rivers Conservation Center in Delmar and at the National Historical Park in Saratoga. During that period, he served as president of Capital District Chapter 82 of the Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni. In recent years, Mr. Steele also remained active with the Senior Citizens from Pittstown and Brunswick enjoying the many trips they sponsored. His love of his ancestral home of Scotland never diminished throughout his life. In 1996, he had the pleasure of visiting Kilbirnie and Lochwinnoch, Scotland, the home of his grandparents. He loved his home, his garden, and his flowers. He lived life to the fullest and touched the lives of many, was a friend to all, and now is at peace with God in heaven. Jennie was born on October 3, 1927 in Albany and was the daughter of the late Robert and Ellen Benham Rogers. She resided in Rotterdam for the past 42 years. Jennie is survived by her husband of 49 years, William E. Born and raised in Albany, N.Y., the son of the late Florence and George Vine. Richard was a lifelong resident of the Capital District and graduate of Schuyler High School in Albany. Richard served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 294, drove for Preston Trucking Co. and USF Red Star, retiring in 2003. Dick and Ginny loved to travel. Over the years, he played bass guitar for several local bands. He was a Harley Davidson motorcycle and NASCAR enthusiast. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Finn Vine; sons, James J. Neumann of Albany, Michael E. Neumann of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Alan B. (Linda) Vine of Daleville, Ala.; brother-in-law, James M. (Eileen) Finn of Albany; granddaughter, Danielle M. Estelle was born in Cohoes and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late William and Johanna Houlihan Wager. Estelle was a longtime employee of Behr-Manning/Norton Company in Watervliet. During her career and in retirement, Estelle enjoyed traveling and being in the company of her numerous caring and supportive friends - most particularly, Dorothy, Helen and Cathy. Estelle is survived by her niece, Barbara McIntosh Daley and her husband Bill of Trumbull, Conn.; and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews, to whom she showed much love and affection.
