I Josiah AMES aged sixty three years and ----, being desisous (sic) to
discharge the duty which every man owes to his family by making such provision
for the destribution of my property as shall be just and equitable do make
publish and declare this my last will and testament as following. 

FIRST. I direct that the expense last sickness & funeral shall be paid in
preference to any device or legacy herein continue. 

SECOND. I direct that a deed of the farm on which I now reside & for the
purchase of which I have a contract shall be procured as soon after my decease
as may be unless the same shall be done sooner. 

THIRD. After my farm shall be deeded as above mentioned I will and devise the
equal one third part of the same to my wife Mary during her natural life and
after her death I will and devise the same to my son William. I also give and
bequeath unto my said wife absolutely all my household goods, beds, bedsteads,
and other furniture. 

FOURTH. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally the wife of Peter MOSIER
the sum of one dollar. 

FIFTH. I give and bequeath unto my son Anthony the sum of one dollar. 

SIXTH. I give and bequeath unto my dauther Hannah the wife of Samuel
SWACKHAMMER the sum of one dollar. 

SEVENTH. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Choe wife of John SMITH the sum
of one dollar. 

EIGHTH. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Betsey wife of Ralph PHELPS the
sum of one dollar. 

NINTH. I give and bequeath unto my son John the sum of one dollar. 

TENTH. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Phebe Ann wife of Jedediah
CLEVELAND one cow to be an avarage one in the lot. 

ELEVENTH. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane one cow to be an avarage
one in the lot. I also will and direct that there shall be purchased for my
said daughter Jane so in some way provide be--- for her one bed and bedding,
one cherry fall leaf dinning table, one cherry light stand and six chairs.

TWELFTH. I will devise & bequeath all the -------of my property both real and
personal to my son William who is now twenty three years of age. 

In witness wereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day
of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one.

testator in our presence and was declared by him to be his last will and
