Weed died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. R. Naracon, 11 Wall Street, at about 1:30, this morning, from effects of a disease which has been creeping upon him for several years past. Indeed, he has been in poor heath for a decade. Mr. Weed was the son of a clergyman and was born in 1807. He came to Aurelius with his father's family at a very tender age. The family lived in what is now a part of Auburn and is now known as Hackney, and Mrs. Weed has often told, in late years, of his boyhood journeys through the woods to the Auburn station. He while a very young boy, drove horses which drew the stone for the prison walls, and he also gazed upon the copper anatomy of the prison's presiding genius before it was hoisted to its present lofty position. At the age of eighteen Mr. Weed was married to Jerusha Ann Allen, of Aurelius, and by her he had six children, three of whom are now living. The surviving children are T. A. Weed, of Syracuse, Mrs. Naracon mentioned above, and Galen O. Weed, Jr., proprietor of the Syracuse Sunday Times. The deceased at two periods in his life kept a grocery store, but between these periods were long years of service on the prison forces at Sing Sing and Auburn, and later upon the force at the insane asylum in this city. For a number of his later years he was a correspondent of his son's paper and wrote also, occasionally for other journals. He was a member of no society or church, but in the days of the Old Auburn Guards he shouldered his musket with that company. The funeral services will take place at 8 p.m. tomorrow, at his daughter's home.
