And was buried on family owned land. The large tomb is now illegible but remains on the original site A bronze marker has been placed in the Veterans Section of East Ripley Cemetery BATES, Jonathon BATES died January 20 1840 aged 67 yrs. 8 Mos. 5 days. Directions for finding this stone were written by an 8th grade student, "They are accurate) (1985 Barden) (as written) (But the letter looks as if the date is 1810.Dee D.)
