The submittor has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ Obediah Simpson, Archives Holland Land Co., Portland TWP, Chautauqua Co., NY Obediah Simpson (born about 1797 in NY) contracts on 21 Oct. 1815 with the Holland Land Co., to buy 110 acres in Portland TWP, Chautauqua Co., NY for $428.00, as recorded in the company's Delinquent Contracts files (LDS call number 1398423, Item #5). Obediah is described as "resident" and the parcel as including "40 acres improved, frame house, 50 fruit trees, 'good surface, light clayey soil, good for wheat.'" Obediah, about 20 years old, fails to make timely payments but, is given the opportunity lease out a portion of his land to a tenant called "Ethan Ownen." In a later record dated 4 Jan 1930 Obediah Simpson renews his subcontract with tenant Ethan Owen creating what the Holland Land Co., defines as a "Modified sales H" (LDS Library at Salt Lake City, Utah call number 1414986.)
