He served as an enlisted man in the Regiment of New York Continental Line, as an enlisted man in Col. William Malcombs regiment of NY Levies, and for a third tour of duty as an enlisted man in Col Marinus Willett's regiment of NY Levies. His pension application notes he performed guard duty of Major Andre, the British spy. He was known to be living in the town of Busti, Chautauqua Co NY, in 1832 but when his pension payment was made in 1845 he was living in Kirtland Ohio ; Gideon was married twice, first to Catherine ROBERTSON, born 1775 who died November 27 , 1806 in Irving, Town of Hanover, Chautauqua Co NY, His second wife was Mrs. Jane (RIPLEY) Brown, widow of Samuel BROWN, they were married in 1814, any information on his children is not known (Patriot Soldiers, Frederick Ward Kates)
