P. Sipe, Memoirs of Deceased Wives of Preachers, Journal and Yearbook of the Erie Conference, 1917, pages 137-138 MRS. JAMES R MILLER. Mrs. James R. Miller, wife of the late Rev. J. R. Miller, died at the home of her daughter July 24th, 1917, at Jamestown, N. Y. Mrs. Miller's maiden name was Evaline McMillin; she was born near New Bethlehem, Pa., August 11th, 1857, and was united in marriage June 8th, 1876, to J. R. Miller, at Shariton, Iowa, by the Rev. T. McCay Stewart. Nine children were born to this union, of which six remain to mourn the death of their mother, namely, Mrs. R. W. Ludwig, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. A. J. Cowan, Jamestown, N. Y.: Mrs. C. M. Harriger, Oil City, Pa.; Mrs. Howard Steckel, Easton, Pa.: James, now in the United States Army, and Ralph G., of Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for more than forty years. Twenty-four years of that time were spent in Methodist parsonages as the wife of an itinerant minister. During these years she was not only the loving mother of her children but the constant inspiration of her husband who so successfully carried forth the work of the Lord in many of the trying places of the Kingdom. For several years Mrs. Miller was a patient sufferer from a lingering illness. Her faith in Christ was her constant stay during this entire time and in Him she triumphed in the last hour so that the "king of terrors" was overcome in this hour of trial and the handmaiden of the Lord was released to go forth to meet the husband of her youth and the children of her bosom and the Christ whom she loved so well. The obsequies were observed July 25th, 1917, at Scotch Hill, Pa., and were conducted by the Rev. William P. Sipe. Mrs. Miller's remains were laid to rest by the side of her late husband in the burial grounds at Scotch Hill, Pa. And now from out the glory In living clouds of light, The old familiar faces some Beaming on her sight: The early lost and early loved, The friends of long ago, Companions of her pilgrimage And conflicts here below. They parted here in weakness, In suffering, and in gloom; They meet amid the freshness Of Heaven's immortal boon, Henceforth in ever-during bliss To wander hand in hand Beside the living waters Of that still and sinless land. 0, who can tell the rapture Of those to whom 'tis given Thus to renew the bonds of earth Amid the bliss of heaven?
